Another Broken Toe

What is the deal with my toes lately? Yes, I dont wear shoes 99.9% of the time, but I’m in my house. It wasn’t Happy Dancing or a toy train this time, it was a hug. Yes. A hug.

Ben ran up to me to give me a hug after he got home from school. It was very sweet to hear him yell “Grandma” with his arms out as he ran toward me. The problem occurred when his heavy, hard,  clodhopper shoe jammed into my toes. He didnt step on my toes, I got toe-jammed. Same foot as the Happy Dancing toe, one toe over.

Why? Why? Do I, a person who loathes shoes, need to buy steel toed boots and wear them at all times? Why? Anyway, I’m hobbling again.

Another fun thing that happened today while I was hobbling around the house is the power went out in our area right at sundown.

I saw a flash like lightning out of the corner of my eye just before the power cut off so I’m guessing that something blew or someone hit something.

Of course sundown is about the time we’re fixing dinner for Ben and trying to wind him down for bed. He was outside in the backyard and I think the sudden silence alerted him that something was different.

He didnt care about the dark. He didnt care about the missing meal. He was very, very upset that the TV was not on and the movie wasnt playing. It has to be playing on repeat whether he’s watching it or not. We tried explain about the power but he didnt care. “Fix it” he commanded.

Luckily my phone was charged and had high speed mobile data. Yeah, no power=no internet=very unhappy Ben.

He calmed down a little bit with the wonders of YouTube and Netflix available to him. He dined on Wheat Thins and Goldfish. Daughter and I were lighting candles in high places.

Bath and off to bed by candlelight. Then just as he was falling asleep the power switched back on. He sat up and said “Movie on” and layed back down.

Never a dull moment at Casa Cuckoo.

🙄😂🤷‍♀️

  1. Must be painful, the toe. I broke a couple of bones in my right foot back in February and it was very uncomfortable. Had to wear a cast for 4 weeks. Get well soon sweetie. Need I say, take care?

  2. My toe broke because of a jam not something falling/stepping on it. That was July and it’s still a tiny bit puffy. Maybe it will stay that way forever 😢

Hope you feel better and your power stays on!

    1. Thanks Paula😻 I seem to be on a mission to injure each toe in a more ridiculous way than the last😕
The power outage would’ve been fine with me if it hadn’t bothered Ben’s needs and routine. I would’ve just figured it was bedtime.😴😴

    1. I hate wearing shoes but I’m not super fond of pain… I may have to start wearing some kind of shoes. At least it’s the colder months now, or supposed to be anyway.
The living room TV wouldn’t go on this morning. It may have finally died☹ Another round of “fix it” before school this morning…sigh

  3. Merrell Jungle Mocs are a shoe that’s as comfy as a slipper.
I can imagine how loss of Netflix would be hard in any home with kids, and virtually a state of emergency when autism’s in the picture!

  4. Oof! Hope your toe gets to heal (before you stub it again 🙂 ) No TV, no internet – oh my goodness. I guess I never really understand how much we rely on those things until they are gone. So tough! Here’s hoping you have a better, no broken toe and power filled day! 🙂

    1. Thanks Robyn😍 We had another round of “movie on”, “fix it” with the living room TV before school. It’s a big old fashioned behemoth of a box TV and it may have finally died. To save my sanity I may have to break out the credit card and replace it before school ends today.🙄

  5. 👣😖 Your poor toes. I’m the same way, I hate shoes. I don’t mind slippers, but hate shoes. Maybe, you should just wear them when King Ben runs up to hug you after school.
Heck, I don’t blame Ben for being upset without TV, movies, etc… I’d be upset too. I could imagine every child being ticked off without having the things they like.
I hope today goes without incident, you need a break! 😍😘

    1. Welllll…. the living room TV wont turn on. I think its finally gone to TV heaven. Its probably 30 years old. A big behemoth of a box, not flat screen☹ Looks like I have to break out the credit card and replace it. We had some stress this morning with “Movie on”…”fix it”… my zen cant handle a Ben meltdown right now. It’s starting to teeter. Plus younger is having a tooth pulled today and her anxiety is beyond maxed. I’m thankful her partner is taking her to the appointment.
Other people have lives like this, dont they? It’s not just me that has weird stuff going on, right?🤪🙄 never a dull moment😂😂😂

      1. I ssure you… Other’s have their own sort of drama going on too.
Just pop some po-corn, and enjoy the show.
Sucks that the TV is out. How soon are you going to able to get a new one before Ben freaks completely out?
I have to admit… I would be like your youger daughter. I have a tooth ache, and I’m scared to death of dentist.
Besides, my glassed are ready and I want to get them first. Monday is my big day to pick them up!!! Yay. I’ll be able to see again!!🤓

        1. Yay!! 🤓 I picked up a business card from the optometry department at Walmart today when I went to get the TV. Not only do I need a stronger prescription, one of the sides is taped from getting broken during a Ben meltdown. I have the business card to put on my nightstand to remind me to set the appointment. 👍

I think everyone hates going to the dentist. I dont have to worry about THAT anymore. No teeth.🤣

          1. I’d rather have no teeth. 😐
Good! I’m happy to hear about the TV, but most of all your getting your eyes done. Good girl!!! 🤓
The crap color that was on the outside of my frames have been chipping… So they resemble camouflage now. I can’t wait to get my new ones, they are so pretty.

  6. It’s a crazy time with all these wind storms. Scary . Just the thought of losing our home to a fire. So many people without power and many had to evacuate. Stay safe. And sorry about your toe. We seriously don’t need one more thing to worry about.

    1. Luckily we’re not in any fire danger (knock on wood). I remember ash falling from the sky in the huge fire of ’03 and the fires of ’07.
I didnt realize the fires were near you Teri. It’s very scary to see the flames, even from a distance. Stay safe🙏 hopefully with the winds gone the fires can be contained.
      ❤❤❤

  7. Angie! Ouch! For a tiny body part a toe can hurt something awful when it’s broken. I hope it won’t take too long to heal. Thank goodness for fully charged cell phones with internet! 😊 💕

    1. Hey Suzanne 😍 My poor toes are being targeted lately.☹ I’m going to have to get over my desire to be constantly barefoot for a while I think. Winter is the best season for it. I’ll start with comfy slippers and work up to steel toed boots😂😂
The power surge or whatever it was that blew up killed the aging TV in the living room. Ben discovered that before school yesterday, so I had to go buy a new TV. 🙄 Better for Ben’s routine, better for my sanity…not so good for the old bank account☹ Life just keeps on keeping on though…at least the high 90s heat seems to be finally gone. Yay!!

      1. Comfy slippers is a Good place to start for your toes! Ugh, I’m sorry about the power surge and the tv. ☹️. Ben will probably be the first in the house to master the new controls. 😄 Finally out of the high 90’s is a very good thing. It took longer for y’all than it did for us here even. We were there into October though. Does it ever get chilly there? We’re having a cold snap right now. It’s not usually so chilly here in October. Strange, but I’m ok with it. Enjoy the new tv and be careful of your toes!! 💌🌷😘

        1. In Jan & Feb it can dip into the low 50s during the day and freeze overnight. I live in a valley so it gets a bit hotter and colder than the average for the area. It never gets cold, like other parts of the country get cold. I dont have “winter” clothes, just ugg boots and a thick hoodie😂 I’m spoiled and I know it. It snows usually up in the mountains a couple times during the winter, so I can drive an hour to visit it if I want to, then come back home. Or go another half hour to the ocean. Very spoiled!😍🗻❄🏖🌊🌈🌠

          1. That does wonderful! Tucked between mountains and ocean, both within reach. Hmmm….today I would like, Snow. No wait…sea and sand. I love that! How’s the toe? Happy day after Halloween. Maybe this is candy hangover day. Lol. 🥰💌🍭

            1. The toe is feeling better, thank you. It must have sprained not actually broken, because I’m not an X-Man and dont have super healing, but I can walk without hobbling.😂
I feel like I have some kind of hangover. I think it might just be a drama hangover. 🙄 Also, Ben brought home a sinus kootie and generously shared🤧 I plan to nap as much as possible👍
              I hope your days are drama-free😉 🤗🌻💌

  8. Oh dear, it’s one thing after another, isn’t it? Don’t talk to me about toes. Mine have practically packed up for the winter. They don’t truly believe in circulation anyway, and now that the temperatures drop below 10 C on a regualr basis, they’ve gone into hibernation.

    1. Its finally starting to get that cold at night so I dug out my slippers. It was 35c here all last week🥵 Maybe I can ease back into the shoe thing. No one in my family likes to wear shoes. And since I only leave the house occasionally to run errands I can let my feet be free. But, yes, my poor toes haven’t been enjoying that freedom, I think they’d prefer some protection.

  9. Ouch, I say, as I have just recovered from a broken baby toe. At least this time it was only one and buddy taping worked. Last time it was baby and its neighbor which both needed the orthopede to reposition. Trying to remember to put on shoes around the house but some of us, I guess, are just not shoe people. I’m to the point my baby toes predict the weather. Happy healing.

  10. Sorry to hear about your poor toe. No shoes around the house is good for your feet but accidents can happen. I sympathize as I have a bad toe too – it has a big blister on it from walking around Bergen on my trip to visit my daughter.
