Part 7 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I dozed last night from about 7:30PM to 9:00PM. I write dozed because I never went completely under. I decided at 9:00PM that I better eat the food I had picked up earlier and properly get ready for sleep. I was really asleep by 11:30PM, but was awoken by hearing a voice say “Angela”. That startled me out of sleep because it is my legal name, but no one uses it. I like the odd little things that happen in my life, but not so much at 2:00AM. I was awake about an hour, no other voices or messages.

Ben came jigging into my room around 5:00PM. He was fully dressed and had a bowler hat on, doing a jig. Zeus just jumped on the bed and sniffed my ear. (Why my ear??)

I told Ben to chill out before he hurt himself and he jigged off to Daughter’s room. I heard her voice so I pulled the blankets higher and rolled over.

Ben was back and forth, waiting for one of us to acknowledge his obvious talent until 5:30AM, when Daughter went to the living room. Ben had Bounced me properly by then and was trying to get Zeus to move so he could get under the blankets. Daughter called him out into the living room, and amazingly, he went. Sleep pulled me under.

I woke up around 9:00AM to the sound of Ben yelling “Just fingers!” Ahhh…hair brushing time. I stayed in bed until it was over. My presence would have made things worse. I got up to wee and get coffee, and saw that Sven’s terrarium was still covered. Sometimes Daughter is more frustrating than Ben! One would think that a 31 year old nurse could manage to remove a blanket and turn on a light, but I guess not. (this would be an eye roll emoji moment. Did you sense it?)

Life went on as usual…

At 12:30PM Daughter said she was going to lay down for an hour. I said okay… what could I say? I remind my self all the time that other people cannot function on 4 hours of broken sleep, and also that most people eat more often than once a day. Life and disability have given me strange relationships with sleep and food.

At 2:30PM the alarm for Ben’s afternoon meds went off. Hmmmm… ‘an hour’ huh?! I gave him his meds just as she was stumbling down the hall. She started grumping at Zeus and Ben before she even sat down. I told her maybe she should go back to bed. She stopped being a Mr. Grumpy Gills and I, followed by Zeus went to my room.

Ben followed soon after. I guess all of Daughter’s grumpiness hadn’t gone away. Younger texted me that she was awake. I told her I needed the car back for another trip to the laundromat dryers. It’s still off and on raining here in SoCal. It’s cold too! We are not used to low 60s in Spring. We pay extra for everything, the Sunshine Tax is what it’s called, because we have nice weather. I want my nice weather, dag-nabbit!

Younger brought my car back. I had told her to just leave the clicker thingy (no key for a Prius) in the mailbox because Older was grumpy and Ben was in manic hyper overdrive. She decided she wanted to come in… sigh. More crazy chaos ensued. Zeus has to get in on the act too. He really is not a well-behaved K9. He’s as impatient and spastic as Ben. All of our animals are weird in one way or another. I wonder if we attract weird animals or we turn them with our own weirdness??

5:00PM and it’s time for Ben’s dinner. Tonight is “white chicken” (cubed breast sauted in butter with salt, pepper and garlic), one of his favorites. You’ve probably noticed the lack of fruit and veggies in his diet. We try. We offer him a variety of different things and he won’t even try. He’s a generally healthy little guy. He’s a little overweight, but that started with the meds. Before he started taking meds his constant movement left him underweight, no matter how much he ate.

Dinner done, it was bath time. I told Ben to ‘hop in the tub’, so he did. He’s lucky he didn’t slip and bash his head. He only sent a wave of water onto the floor. Sigh…

I told him last night that I was washing his hair tonight. He was NOT pleased when I reminded him tonight. He put up a minimal fight, I think it’s more for show with me. With his Mama, he fights! This is why I do bath time and arts & crafts time, and all the other stuff Older has no patience for.

Off to bed he and Zeus went. Hurray! The end of another day’s adventures…for King Ben and Zeus at least. I have to change into public clothes and brave the store. We need laundry pods and dryer sheets.

Stay healthy, let me know if there is anything I can do to help you. I really am serious, and stay tuned…

    1. I hear my name called several times a year. It kinda freaked me out when I was younger, but I like it now.🤷🏼‍♀️ Usually I hear “Mom” or “Angie”…Angela is new.
I have a bit of psychic ability.
Simple stuff, like if I think about Younger Daughter, she will call or text me. Or sometimes I just “know” stuff.
There’s a huge part of our brains we dont use, so…🤷🏼‍♀️
I’m not autistic, but I’m not a “Normie Normal” either😂😂

        1. At our old house I used to hear a little girl laughing and playing in the connected house (it was a duplex) when no little girl lived there. Eventually a mom & her young son moved in and he saw the little girl.
There was also something that made noise in the attic space.(I thought an animal had gotten in, so i sent our best ‘hunter’ cat up there… she yawned, wasnt interested. Our other fat white cat used to track it moving around. That one wasnt fun.

  1. Fun series!

I had a mixed day today. I thought I should go outside so I took a walk in the cold bright wind and got a migraine. Ughhh. But later my boss boss emailed and gave me some real work, letting me know they haven’t forgotten about me. That made me feel good 🙂

    1. Still sleep deprived unfortunately, luckily I’m used to it. It’s only dangerous when I get zero sleep for several days. That’s when my eyes get buggy and I start hallucinating. 72 hours one time… dont wanna beat that record 😉😂😂

  2. Ben bopping around and the waves of the bathtub and all, the way you described it reminded me of Calvin and Hobbes. I love the way you face the day and add music 🎶 and the way you share it with us that can make me smile, ☺️ when I know it’s Exhausting! The name thing happens to me too. When it’s intense and wakes you from sleep I lay there scanning my mind trying to figure out Who. 🐶🐉🎶🦋💖✨

    1. That’s what I think too. Zeus was a Big Dumb Dog when we got him from the shelter, we could tell when they brought him to meet us, but he’s gotten more neurotic.
Both cats were strays, so partially feral 🤷🏼‍♀️and they are both characters.
