Part 9 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Blah blah blah, Bounce-sniff-tablet, wiggle jiggle, cold feet, bedquake… Let’s just skip all that part. You’re probably getting as tired of it as I am.

Older Daughter got home from work and asked Ben if he wanted to lay down with her in her bed. He ran off to her room, so I guess that was a yes. Hurray for me! I gathered my stuff and went back to my bed.

I didn’t think it would last long, so I played around on my phone. Imagine my surprise when I woke from a doze at 9:45AM. (I seem to be dozing off, phone in hand, quite often lately. If you get a weirder than normal bunch of writing in your comments, blame it on my insomnia) I listened, but didn’t hear any noises. I thought Ben had fallen asleep with Daughter.

At 10:30AM I got his meds ready and went to see if he was asleep or just being quiet. Both he and Daughter were awake. Meds delivered, I headed back to my room.

Daughter got up to use the bathroom and Ben followed shortly after, looking for her. She went to bed, he stayed in the living room. I got up because I knew he’d be demanding “Gramma come living room!” soon anyway. Zeus was chasing Diesel instead of following me.

I guess Ben was gathering his energy with all that quiet time, because from the time I sat down on the couch until 1:00PM he was zipping and zooming all over the place. He was throwing toys for Zeus to fetch, doing his dancing jig, popping the plastic that comes in Amazon shipments (WHY?!? Why must they put three items in a ginormous box with the plastic bubbles?), and generally being loud and in constant motion.

I guess he got his workout and so did Zeus. Exercise is good, especially now, however you do it. Those dreaded words “I need help!”…when I asked what he needed help with, he said “Right there.” not pointing at anything. And so began our bazillionth version of Who’s On First…sigh.

I finally figured out he wanted tape and went to get it from my room. I was a little surprised at the scene that met me

Everyone was okay. No medical or seamstress intervention necessary.

I guess Ben decided to reenact some fight scene from some movie. Why he had to do it in my room, I didn’t ask. I’m guessing it’s because the sliding door of my closet is a mirror. He likes to watch himself. At least he remembered to use the stuffed animals instead of Zeus this time. (These are NOT his favorite stuffed animals. They were won from machines or at carnivals, or gifted to him randomly)

At 3:00PM Daughter staggered out of her room to take over Living Room Duty. I was hoping Ben would stay in there with her, but no… he and Zeus followed me into my room. Jiminey Cricket On A Motorscooter!, a little break would’ve been nice.

He was ramping up for the afternoon/evening spaz-a-thon. Not that he hadn’t been pinballing all over the place before. He sort of settled after I told him he’d have to leave my room if he didn’t chill out. He got some popcorn, watched his tablet and fiddled with his Nerf gun.

“Oops!” followed by giggling after he shot me in my sit-upon from point blank range. Those Nerf darts have a plastic tip and they sting a little when they hit. Especially when the gun is a bolt action rifle fired point blank. I told him it wasn’t funny and it wasn’t an oops. We’ve given him plenty of options for targets, but it’s more fun to get a reaction from me or Daughter. So, of course we canNOT react. I hide that gun every night. Hidden in plain site, but out of the way. It would send him nuclear if he wanted it and it was gone. I try to put it where it won’t catch his eye and bring attention to itself.

Younger Daughter texted me around 4:00PM with “Hello bestest Mama in the world”. I asked her how much she wanted. I guess it’s nice that she started with a Hello instead of just texting that she wants money. She even offered to give me a couple banana muffins she baked. I told her they better be good at $20 each.

They look pretty good.

Ben continued to oops and bedquake me until dinner time, orange chicken, we have more than enough thanks to some wonderful people. I was SO ready for his bedtime. He was so quiet and so calm this morning and then it’s like a switch flipped. Ya know, I wonder if it’s the Adderall? He takes it with his morning meds only. Hmmmm… have to watch that. I guess this series will help me keep a record of more than his adventures.

Bath and bed time were easy, his night meds had kicked in. He didn’t even get excited when Younger Daughter arrived. Zeus did… naughty Big Dumb Dog. She gave him a kiss and came to get her ‘payment’ for the muffins she brought.

Yes, she kissed him, and she hugged me too. Keeping your distance from people is all well and good, but hug your loved ones every time you see them, unless they’re obviously ill and even then, I’d probably risk it. Tell them that you love them, every time you speak, and when they leave your company, even for a quick errand.

That’s it for today. I need to go figure out what to eat. Sending out virtual hugs to all of you. Stay home, stay healthy, and stay tuned, more adventures tomorrow…

    1. I’m saving them to have with my coffee in the morning.
She does pretty well with the baking. I taught both my girls how to cook/bake when they were young. Thank goodness because I’m mostly too tired to do it now. Every once in a while I get a request that I cant deny. I just know I’m gonna have to make bread soon.๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’Œ

  1. Those nerf bullets do hurt! I did end up hiding ours in the deck box outside – right next to the light sabers (which also smart). Here’s hoping for a great Sunday!

  2. I taught my girls to bake too. Regular cooking not so much. I do some, but they donโ€™t like the boring things I eat… theyโ€™ve turned into foodies! Apparently I forgot to teach them how to sew, lol. Oopsy

    1. They can both see enough to put on a button or fix a hole. Younger made a xmoose stocking out of felt one year. I used to do all kinds of crafty things, candle making, cross stitch, scrapbooking, crochet…then my hands went kaput and my life exploded ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ now I just try to survive Ben most days๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  3. I keep meaning to tell you…Im with Ben on popcorn, smartfood white cheddar, right? Yum!! Also, hoping thereโ€™s no shortage of tape, sounds like an essential item at your house. You received designer gourmet muffins ๐Ÿฅฐ! Iโ€™m with you on hug advice, definitely ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿค—๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿณ

    1. I’m glad we were able to order the popcorn. (Another shipment is due today) I have to get small bags. He’s so picky, if we open a big bag and it doesnt all get eaten that day, he won’t finish it. Basically, he will only eat from a freshly opened bag…with ALL chips. Goldfish, cereal, cheez-its…those can be resealed…maybe it’s the box that makes it okay๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ He’s a kooky little guy๐Ÿ˜‚
Yes, tape…I need to get more๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคฏ

  4. Well, I’m sure you can imagine that I found the photo of the stuffed-animal carnage to be wildly entertaining. (It’s the small things that do it for me.) The scene reminded me of when we were little and would play “Earthquake”, which basically consisted of setting knocking over everything in one of our bedrooms and then enacting mangled, messy demises.

Suffice it to say that I’m still just as weird. And now I have a craving for muffins…

    1. We weren’t allowed to be loud inside…falling over, in an upstairs appartment??? What would the neighbors say?!๐Ÿ™„
I’d gladly share the muffins (almost typed “my” but, ya know…) but I already ate them.๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ’Œ

  5. Banana muffins. Yum! I made banana bread last week also. Had to freeze half of it because it wasn’t getting eaten fast enough and I don’t waste a thing.

Glad you are all hanging in there.

    1. Younger Daughter is experimenting with her cooking and baking. She made an alfredo sauce last night, sent me a picture. She got very excited when I told her zucchini is yummy in alfredo pasta.
Both if my daughters love to cook & bake. I used to do it a lot more than I do now. Usually only when a “specialty” is requested๐Ÿ˜‚
