Part 25 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I didn’t get to sleep until almost midnight last night. Younger Daughter and I were having a texted conversation. She’s feeling very depressed. She texts of suicidal thoughts, nothing concrete, just a desire to give up and not keep going through the pain of her rocky relationship, the feelings of worthlessness from her job loss, money worries… the same things that so many people are feeling. I feel bad for her, I remember feeling trapped in a relationship, broke, no car, everything going wrong… There’s nothing I can do to fix any of it for her. I was able to cheer her up a tiny bit with this picture I took of last night’s sky

I’m glad I had my phone in my pocket when I was taking the bins down to the curb last night. We said goodnight on a more positive note.

I got bounced (lowercase) at 4:30 by Zeus. Ben had gone to his Mama’s room again. I dozed back off until I was awakened by Ben playing ‘Bongos’ on my shoulder, hard. “What? What do you need? Hi Ben! Good Morning, Ben!” I started kinda grumpy cuz I was startled (and in a little pain, he’s strong) but by ‘Hi Ben’  I was talking (loudly, true) in a much nicer voice. Ben never said anything, just beat on my shoulder until he was satisfied that I was awake, then he left. I think I prefer the Bounce.

He and Daughter moved into the living room at 5:00. I was awake, so I started going through my email and my WP notifications, normal morning stuff.

I heard Daughter tell Ben he could change the movie, that would be okay, and I got a little excited. I yelled out to Daughter “Is Avatar being replaced?” Unfortunately, no. Ben had forgotten to put the movie on repeat so he was ejecting the disc to make sure it was Avatar. He put it back in, got it playing and put it on repeat. At least we’ve managed to convince him to keep the sound muted. Between his tablet and his “Happy Noises” he makes quite enough sound, not to mention Zeus and his barking. I don’t need more noise assaulting my system.

The morning progressed, and at 6:30 it was time for meds. Ben came and got in bed with me after taking his meds. Until they kicked in, I was treated to bedquakes and elbows.

He pretty much stayed with me all morning. More wiggle jiggle, more elbows. Sometimes a little “footsie”… Zeus being jealous and trying to get in the middle, but settling for laying on my feet. Finally, just before 10:00, I’d taken one too many elbows and I shouted “Jiminey Cricket on a Motorscooter, child! Will you STOP with elbows?!” He sat up and said “Elbows? What elbows?” (his new ‘thing’ is to take a word you’ve said and put “what” in front of it. It’s getting old, and annoying), then got out of bed and ran to the living room.

After Ben’s 10:30 meds is generally when I feed Sven, so I got up and (finally) made my bed, then went to take care of Mr Grumpy Beard.

I stopped the video because he was giving me the Go Away stare. He cracks me up though. Miss, miss, almost, got it! And he always looks disappointed when it’s only greens.

Around 11:30 Ben got tired of creating chalk dust and came and Bounced me. I was feeling a doze creeping up, he must’ve sensed it. Little stinker.

We hung out in my room for an hour or so, then he wanted to go back to the living room. Daughter had gone to her room earlier, so I got to hear that familiar command “Gramma come living room!” So, off I went.

Daughter was cleaning her bedroom and then she was relaxing, so I stayed in the living room with Ben for the rest of the afternoon. When Ben played with his chalk, Zeus was right next to me on the couch. When Ben got tired of his chalk and wanted to sit on the couch next to me with his tablet, he’d make Zeus move and Zeus would pace, paw at me and whine. Big Dumb Dog!

Around 4:00 Daughter came out and took over Living Room Duty. Ben stayed and played with his chalk until around dinner time. Steak tonight.

I’ll leave you with a Sven shower picture. I felt bad for him, he looked so grumpy…

Yellow means happy

Stop on by Casa Cuckoo tomorrow, I hear it might even be sunny. Let me know if I can bring a little “yellow” into your life. Hugs!

    1. Yeah, when Bearded Dragons are bright and showing their yellow it means they’re happy or warm or content… good stuff😂
It’s always hard when your kids are having it rough. Both my daughters are so dramatic too… I don’t know where they get it😉😂😂💌

  1. Hi Sven! My day was silly… I had to go downstairs and TAKE a package from Amazon man, defeating the entire point of delivery at door with no contact. Ran back up and decontaminated everything 🙄

  2. I can see why you video taped him eating – it is quite unique and fun to watch! Boy, he did stare you down there at the end though. “Am I amusing you?” kind of tude. Glad your daughter was able to talk with you about how she is feeling. I’m sure you’re a good listener!

    1. Thanks, Robyn! She’s been having a rough time. I remember 25 being a rough time for me too, and there wasn’t a world pandemic happening.
I don’t have a lot of experience with Bearded Dragons but Sven cracks me up. I don’t know if I’m assigning feelings and thoughts to him, but he does seem to have attitude. All our pets are weird🙄🤪😂💌
