Part 32 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Once again, I planned on going to sleep early last night, but it never seems to work out that way. Younger Daughter was picking up my car at 9:30. I thought I could be asleep by 10:00-10:30. She wanted to sit and chat. She didn’t leave until 11:00 and it was probably midnight when I finally found the Land of Nod. I woke up several times, as usual. It seems to be getting worse. I’m guessing it’s all the unrest.

Right on schedule, the Bounce and bedquake at 4:00AM. He was calm(ish) and just wanted my warmth. I dozed… At 5:00 I woke up and he was gone. I listened for a second, no breaking sounds, I dozed again figuring he was with Daughter. That’s where I found him when the 6:30 med alarm woke me up. I didn’t hear either him or Daughter, so I got up to get the meds.

I uncovered Sven and said hello, turned his lights on, then got the meds and took them to Ben in Daughter’s bed. She had been dozing too. She went to bed grumpy so she probably didn’t sleep well.

She goes back to work tonight. She’ll be training an unlicensed, uncertified person. She was chosen as the trainer because she’s good at her job. I told her it was a sucky kind of compliment, but it was a compliment.

After taking his meds, Ben ran for the bathroom. Dang it! That’s where I was going. He let loose Niagara Falls and said “Look, Gramma! Pee!” Yep, it was pee alright. Little goofball. I shooed him out so I could make my own pee.

On my way back to my room, I said hello to Sven again. He looks grumpy, sad and funny with the unshed skin on his head

I found Ben in my bed, and there he stayed.

For whatever reason Ben was in Taz mode all morning. He could NOT be still and he wanted to be in my room. It was an extended, constant bedquake. He even brought out that dreaded phrase “You have to get dressed. You have to go to the store.” He only said it once and then he moved on, thank goodness. He was messing with his toe (the one he pulled the nail off of) so I went to get a bandage. Daughter took over and I slyly grabbed a dart gun from “the stash”. I left the bag just kinda sitting there, waiting for him to notice it. He played with it off and on, in between beating Zeus with a pillow, trying to make Zeus play ‘Fetch’ and generally being a spastic little Taz.

This whole bedquake thing went on from around 7:00AM to well after Noon. Even his 10:30 meds didn’t make a dent in the ADHD overdrive. Daughter kept yelling from the living room for Ben to calm down. It was irritating her from the other room, imagine being in the middle of it. For over 5 hours. Autism and ADHD… SIGH

At 1:00PM Daughter started the laundry and Ben ran out into the living room and demanded that I follow. Rather than argue that his mother would be right back, I went. She came back in, said “Seriously?!” I told her yep and got up to put the ‘target’ that came with the dart gun on the bathroom door and to set up action figures for Ben to shoot at so he wouldn’t shoot at Daughter and make her more grumpy.

Around 2:00 Daughter finally went to her room. Ben stayed in the kitchen area doing his chalk thing and I stayed in my room, catching up on my email and WP reader. Calm & Chill had finally arrived at Casa Cuckoo. Finally!

Ben was content to do his thing until a little after 3:00, when he bounced me with a bag of popcorn in his hand. I told him he’d forgotten his tablet and I went to get it, and a couple more bags of popcorn (tiny snack size bags) for him. I knew one wouldn’t be enough and he’d tell me “Gramma to do it.” or “I need help!” anyway. Easier just to save my breath and time.

Sven spent the afternoon in his “pouting corner”. He really doesn’t need to be in the shower every day.

Younger Daughter got off work earlier than she thought. She got to my house around 4:00. After the madness and chaos of greeting Zeus and Ben, we grabbed the washed clothes, stopped by the laundromat to put them in the dryer and headed toward her house. While I was there greeting her dog, Older called me. Apparently Ben had been saying he wanted to go to Auntie’s house and Older wanted to know if Younger would let him come over one day after work. We all got on speaker and Ben asked for a new toy. Because of course he did. I told him I wasn’t going to the store, just taking Auntie home and drying clothes.

He was waiting for me when I walked in the door. I showed him that all I had was the clean, dry clothes and gave him his favorite black and white jacket, still warm from the dryer. He was happy enough with that. Thank goodness!

He’s got his “white chicken” and his tablet and we’re headed toward bath and bedtime.

I didn’t feel quite as rushed around today but it was still a busy day. The five hour bedquake was a serious test of my patience. I’m ready for some quiet time.

Sending out hugs to all my WP Fam and an open invitation to come on by Casa Cuckoo tomorrow and any day after that. We have adventures, laughs and a grumpy dragon. It’s more fun than whatever is streaming on TV.

    1. It does seem like there is always something… even when I’m just laying on my bed… chaos, all around me๐Ÿคช Sometimes I get to spend up to 15 minutes undisturbed in the bathroom ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’Œ

  1. When I was a social worker I always got the hardest cases for the same reason – I was good at my job. Really is a sucky compliment! I hope your daughter has a good day at work and things go smoothly for her. It must be so stressful. I hope you all have a great day today! Can’t wait to read bout it ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Sven does look pouty ๐Ÿ˜…. I wonder what it feels like to have to go through that. Ugh. Thereโ€™s nothing quite like a favorite jacket warm from the dryer ๐Ÿคฉ. Hope the bounces arenโ€™t so long today….๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’ƒโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’

    1. Right?! I’m sure parents/carers of ADHD kids everywhere have been trying to figure out how to harness that energy.
I couldn’t believe it had been 5 hours! My bed was just the play area of choice or the dog was his victim of choice๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ either way, it’s been YEARS since my bed has seen that kind of movement ๐Ÿ˜‰
