Part 51 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I woke up this morning at 4:00am, out of habit. Better than 1:30, but I didn’t need to be awake yet, Ben was still sleeping. I got up to use the bathroom… might as well.

Zeus must’ve heard me because he was doing this choked off bark thing. A cross between a whine, a gargle and a bark is the best I can do at describing it. I thought he might need a potty break too, so I went and opened Ben’s door… very quietly. Zeus ran out and toward my room. Nuh-uh! Nope! I blocked him and pointed to the open side door. If he’s gonna make noise while Ben is sleeping, it better be for a good reason. I did let him come to my room when he was done.

I got back in bed and was checking out WP, waiting for the Bounce. I thought it would come pretty soon.

I dozed off, and got the full shocking effect when the Bounce and bedquake occured just befor 6:00am. He didn’t even cuddle, just Bounced and commanded “Gramma come living room!”, then ran off.

My limbs were shaking and wobbly, my eyes were crossed, but I got up, grabbed my stuff and followed. I spent the next 15-20 minutes trying to get my eyes to focus and my hands to obey so I could get Ben’s morning meds ready. Mission accomplished, face doped.

Ben danced around the house grunting I’m Alive in his Death Metal voice and I drank coffee, trying to burn off the fog in my brain. I guess I didn’t drink enough, or I need espresso, because I remember hearing  Daughter’s key in the door when she got home, but my next memory was of her coming out of the bathroom. A verrry long blink. It’s discombobulating to lose a chunk of time like that.

She told Ben to get his chalk and come with her to her room. He happily complied. Zeus and I went back to my room. I think I sleep walked there. Sometimes the body demands more downtime and restricts the brain’s access to voluntary functions. I guess today was one of those days.

The 2nd Bounce occurred at 9:38am, with another command to go to the living room. My eyes and limbs weren’t any more cooperative this time.

10:30 meds were delivered and I got Sven’s food for him, and turned him toward it.wp-15890474038715583819245768059143.jpg He’d been in the Judgey Corner since I’d stumbled out. No shower this morning, just food. He really doesnt need a shower every day.

I kinda peeked at him while he was eating, out of the corner my eye, you understand. He was going after a blueberry but couldn’t get it. Poor Sven.

A little while later, I glanced up and saw him on his rockwp-1589052135198147043375682439919.jpg

(Bad lighting, I know. It fits the mood though) The blueberry he was trying for was still in the bowl. Poor Sven!

Ben sat with me on the couch, watching his tablet, until 11:15 or so. (I know he was still on the couch for the 10:30 meds) Then he went to do his chalk thang. (Noon Adderall was given by the chalk) Zeus continued to disem-fluff(?) the unicorn, and I tried to catch up on email and my WP Reader. Tempus Fugit was the theme for today!

Daughter got up and stumble-shuffled down the hall to take over Living Room Duty at 1:30. Ben was still working on his chalk, Zeus was snoring on the couch and Sven had moved to the Pouting Corner. He had managed to get 3 of the 5 blueberries, but the other 2 were buried in the arugula.

Daughter and I chatted (since I was temporarily switched OFF this morning when she got home) about her work last night and my day thus far, then I showed her a Mother’s Day card I’d gotten in the mail from a dear friend. She oooh’d & aaah’d and told me it was very sweet. It WAS very sweet! It made me cry a little bit when I opened it and read it. I’m sentimental that way. Anyway, then I went to get horizontal.

Ben came to join me for a tablet and popcorn break at 3:30. He jabbered and grunted and spoke in his “Ben shorthand” (it’s the verbal equivalent of writing cursive when you’re little and don’t know how…all squigglies and loops), and scripted while watching his tablet and occasionally messing with Zeus and the unicorn. Bedquakes and more bedquakes, but they were gentle enough.

On my way to the bathroom, I spied Sven, still in the Pouting Corner

“GO AWAY !!”

Zeus followed me to the bathroom, of course, but so did Ben. Sheesh! My very own entourage… I feel like a V.I.P.  They even escorted me back to my room.

It’s coming up on “Orange Chicken” dinnertime and the winding down of the day’s adventures. Today went by so fast! I guess that happens when you don’t spend so many hours awake. D’oh!

I want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day tomorrow to all who have children, whether human or fur/feather/scale/fin or any other living thing that depends on you for love and nourishment. I honor you all!

Here’s tonight’s song

Take it easy, especially on yourself. Come on by tomorrow, we’ll have some laughs and adventures.

Hugs!

  1. I am so enjoying your series, Angie. I gotta tell you, Sven and his tales of spying, pouting, grunting, and eating routines are so damn entertaining. I love this little guy!
I hope you have a most wonderful Mother’s Day at The ole’ Casa Cookoo. ( I know I misspelled that, sorry). My eyes are a bit blurred now too.
I hope you get a good nights rest and no early bounce time.
Have a wonderful evening and day tomorrow!!!! 💗

    1. Thank you! I’m very happy that you & everyone enjoy Casa Cuckoo! It’s been therapeutic for me to write. It keeps me focused on the funny. Or when I’m sad, I write that too.
It’s also a good log or journal of how Ben is doing. He’s had 1 or 2 med adjustments since we stopped being able to see his Dr. at the school.

      1. Writing is very therapeutic and I’m I’m glad you found your footing in order to express all that is going on inside of you. The good, bad, and the ugly.
From what I’ve been reading, it sounds as if Ben is adjusting well to his meds. That’s a plus, right? I hope this routine continues up until school starts up again. 😊

        1. Me too! The addition of Adderall has been good! His doctor said she has NEVER heard of someone taking it and going to sleep, but Ben had done it twice. Speed calms him down. I understand cautiously increasing, but I kinda want him to take it all day, ya know?

    1. Happy Mama Day to you & your daughter.💐🧁 Does your other daughter have fur-kids?
Gatsby better be super nice to you, especially since the “C” word issues are messing the human hug-fests up!
Tomorrow will be business as usual at Casa Cuckoo, which means nobody knows what will happen🤷🏼‍♀️ Older has work tonight, so I’ll be serving the boys🙄😂

      1. Not gonna lie – I’ve already used “It’s Mother’s Day!” a few times already 🙂 And I get to go right into “It’s my birthday!” Should be a good 48 hours 🙂
