Part 67 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I was awake until nearly 1:00am. Younger Daughter was texting me. Nothing urgent, just chatting. She knows I’m often awake late. Of course the Bounce had to come early since I was up late, right?! Murphy and Sod with their tricks.

Bounced and bedquake some time before 4:00. I don’t know exactly, it took a while to find my phone and pry my eyes open. Ben was VERY much awake. Oh goody… He was very energetic this morning. He was in and out of my bed several times before commanding me to the living room, just before 5:00

Oh, and he was fully dressed. That’s never a good sign. It seems that the “Fully Dressed” days are harder. He spent the next two hours being very loud, being in constant motion all over the house. Also in the backyard, once it was light enough to see. He was also ignoring everything I said. A very ADHD, SpazmaTaz morning. I gave him his meds outside at 6:30, then came in to uncover Sven.

Sven has been wanting to eat first thing the past few days, so I made his salad last night and put his bowl in the fridge. Before uncovering him, I went to grab the bowl, but I dropped it and of course it broke. I uttered a few curse words and swept up the mess. I looked for a different bowl and decided to use the lid from the Marie Calendar’s mini pies I like. It was wide and shallow, perfect. I made a new salad of cilantro, green cabbage and blueberries, then I uncovered Sven’s terrarium, turned his lights on and put his new bowl with fresh food in the spot. Sven didn’t look pleased

“I was sleeping!”

I went to check on Ben outside. He was attacking some weeds with his plastic Sweeney Todd razor. I told him the weeds were a great choice, much better than Gramma or Zeus or the lotion, soap and toothpaste on the bathroom counter (mirror… he likes to watch himself so he plays in the bathroom…against repeated requests and demands not to).

When I came back in I caught sight of Sven at his new “bowl”, and took a quick picture.

“Blueberries… nom nom!”

Then I went to sit down before he got mad and black beard grumpy faced. Ben came in a little bit later, finally settling down, and sat down with his tablet. It was 7:00am.

Ben sat next to me with his tablet, occasionally getting up and goofing around in the bathroom or going outside. He was still full of energy but it wasn’t as sharp. I was able to relax, a little bit. I glanced up at Sven and saw that he was, once again either plotting his escape (ess-cop-pay), or he was being a Judgey McJudgeypants.

“I see you… I also see freedom out that window over there… Just sayin”

Around 8:15 Ben was outside yelling “Help! Help!” He didn’t sound like he was hurt or stuck, so I went to check, but I didn’t do a mad dash. I “helped” him step down from the little deck area and then, I helped him back into the house. I got him settled on the couch with his tablet and finally went to the bathroom. I’ve been nervous about using the bathroom when I’m watching him alone and he’s having issues, ever since he randomly started kicking the door, trying to jiggle the lock loose.

When I got out of the bathroom, Daughter was sitting on the couch. She had finally woken up, it was 8:45. I gave my report on all the energy and general attitude of the morning, then grabbed my stuff and headed to my room.

I dozed off and on for the next couple hours. Occasionally surfacing just to slip back under. I was bobbing along with the tide in the ocean of slumber. I’m thankful I had the opportunity! The way the early morning went, I was anxious about the rest of the day, especially since it’s gonna be a toasty week.

I’m glad to see the Guessers have revised their guesses about the triple digit days. Still, I predict much AC usage with the utility company rubbing their greedy hands in glee.

Ben came to hang out in my room around 11:30. He was still fully dressed. He munched on Ritz crackers and white cheddar cheese popcorn, drank his juices and watched his tablet. Zeus panted bedquakes. I told the Big Dumb Dog that he should go in the living room with Mom, that I wouldn’t be mad or feel abandoned. He just looked at me with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. Gotta love a big goofball with a side-hanging tongue.

Daughter ordered Mexican food from one of the zillions of Taco Shops around here. Our closest one (between the market and Little Caesar’s, practically next door) isn’t that great. She tried ordering from two different Taco Shops last night, through one of the food delivery apps, but there were no drivers to accept the order. She was very sad and hangry when she went to sleep. I was surprised that she waited until 1:00ish to order.

Daughter brought Ben’s meds at 2:15. Thank goodness! He had been getting increasingly hyper. He was doing the fake, manical laugh, really loudly and cuffing Zeus with the mangled unicorn “skin”. Around 3:00 Ben took his tablet and headed to the living room. After he left, I heard Zeus do a huge sigh. Too funny! Ben must’ve just taken a potty break because he was back by 3:20.

Ben was restless and didn’t stay in my room long. He went outside for a bit, came back in the house and told me “You have to get dressed. You have to go to the store.” I just ignored it. He paced the living room a few times then went and banged his head on the front door and fell down. I went and “helped” him get up, with Zeus barking. (I should hire Zeus out as a “no touching” monitor. He barks whenever we hug, or play or even hold hands.)

Younger had called to say she was gonna stop by to pick up her package. Older didn’t want Ben to see her because he gets more wound up when she comes over, so she talked him into going to her room. He needed to relax in the AC anyway, he was sweaty and we knew we weren’t getting any clothes off him until bath time.

Younger got here around 4:20, we exchanged boxes (she brought me frozen fried mac and cheese bites from Trader Joe’s) and hugs. She brought me a marigold flower from her garden too. Then she left and I texted Older that it was all clear. Ben came and got me less than a half hour later and commanded me to the living room. Older followed about five minutes later. So, I went back to my room.

Pizza is going in the toaster oven, dinnertime soon. This is where I play a song for you… (I saw him a few years ago. Still hot!)

and thank you for spending a hot, edgy, spastic day with us. It went pretty well. I have to admit that I feared the worst when I saw Ben with all those clothes on first thing this morning. We never did the laundry today, so that will have to be done tomorrow. Daughter has work tomorrow night and needs clean scrubs. You don’t wanna miss that, right?! See ya at O Dark Thirty tomorrow morning.

Hugs!

  1. Thank goodness your day ended up on the mellow side. Mine too. I’m reducing my meds and my head is worse, but I tamed it down with Excedrin and this magic oil I have for my neck. I actually enjoy the sounds of the brave people not distancing at the pool and jacuzzi… grilling & chilling, drinking & laughing. I don’t wanna mingle, but I like the noise of life 😍

    1. Yeah, I imagine that silence would get heavy after a while. Over 2 months and barely beginning to ease up. I hope the party peeps quit at a reasonable hour and that your head doesn’t get worse. Maybe the high pressure is affecting you too? We highly sensitive types are sensitive to the environment and weather too.

      1. Yes! Oh thanks for mentioning that. High pressure does affect my head a lot. Fingers crossed it’s that and not the decreased meds (really want to go off). Peeps are supposed to clear the pool area by 10 or maybe earlier. It’s pretty quiet now 🙂

      1. I know nothing about him other than the last few posts. Will need to dig back to find out how he came about.

Oh yes do keep including him. He seems to have quite a personality, in that reptile-ish sort of way. 😊

        1. I just actually wrote a quick review if how we got him in a comment to Brian. There’s an old post that was like an “interview” with him. If you’re bored you should be able to use the “search” and use Sven Interview🤷🏼‍♀️
No worries, I won’t be checking to see if you did or didn’t 😉😂😂

    1. Poor, poor Sven… he had freedom once. A homeless lady found him and was trying to care for him, not knowing what Bearded Dragons need. A friend of Younger Daughter’s met this homeless lady and offered to foster Sven in a better environment and also to put up signs, looking for wherever he escaped from. The friend had several Beardies already, so Younger offered up our house. And that’s how Sven joined the Clan of Casa Cuckoo.

He may think he wants freedom, but his aim sucks and blueberries dont grow wild in SoCal😂😂😂

      1. Aww, you did a good deed. In my opinion, rescue animals are the best, even if they come with issues. They’ve often had a hard life, and it can take a while for them to trust anyone, but once they do, they are committed…

  2. I get nervous every time I hear him command you to the store. Especially when you said he was fully dressed in the morning and that is a bad sign. Glad everything stayed on this side of chill. Now, let’s hope the weather doesn’t sweat you guys out! Hope you have a good day today!

  3. You caught Sven in the act! I’m going to miss his pretty yellow dish. It was so cute! I’m soooo happy the guessers are on the lower side of high for a few days. 😍 You know the song White Wedding, my best friend’s (growing up) last name was White so we always got an extra kick out of that one 😄 🥰🎶☀️💃

      1. I know right 🤣. True! I saw a Christmas cd of his a couple years ago (yes I couldn’t resist it 😅) and I was downright flabbergasted at how respectably handsome he was 🤣. He looked so Normal I didn’t know who he was at first 🤣
