Part 69 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I went to sleep before midnight, hurray! I got Bounced at 1:30, BOO! It’s not a typo. Ben and Zeus Bounced and bedquaked me at One Thirty in the morning! He made me go to the living room at 2:00. I didn’t want to chance a repeat of the door kicking. His tablet was low, it must’ve been unplugged all night, so I plugged his in and gave him mine. Thankfully he was pretty chill, but he didn’t let me sleep. He needed juice or “help cover up” or just “Gramma, wake up!”

6:30 meds and uncovering Sven. I went and checked his tablet battery, it was 100% so I switched tablets for him. Daughter texted and arrived home at the usual times. She said work was okay, no major problem. She tried to get Ben to come with her to her room, but he was ignoring her.

I told her I was just gonna go lay down. I was so tired that I was feeling emotional, like I was gonna cry. I heard Daughter telling Ben to pick up his “Words” and come to her room. Eventually he went.

Less than 15 minutes later I heard her tell him to go potty and come right back to Mommy’s room. She repeated it three times. He came straight to my room. He said “Gramma. Write the words.” I told him I was too tired, that I would write words later. Nope! Ben had an obsession in his brain. He couldn’t think of anything except the need for Gramma to write the words. So I got the bag and prepared to write the words.

My head almost exploded when he showed me what he wanted me to write. Yep! Jumanji… again. I thought maybe he lost a couple names or something. Nope! The entire set of names, just like yesterday, all over again. I really felt like crying then.

After I had finished, and confirmed with HRH that we were done, I told him I wanted to lay down. He told me “Gramma come living room.” I told him I needed to sleep. He started screaming some babble followed by “…write the words, NOW!!” So, what could I do but get up and go find out what other words he desperately needed written and cut out. He was tired, he’d been yawning during the writing of the Jumanji names, and now he was getting upset. I needed to forget about myself, my feelings, my wants and just do what he asked for, or I was gonna have a Very Very upset Ben to deal with. SOOOO not worth it.

Daughter came out to use the bathroom and asked what she could do. I told her “Absolutely nothing.” and it was true. She throws a Bitch Fit whenever he asks her to do the words for him, so he doesn’t ask anymore.

After he’d had me write a few random names, he said “Gramma cook taters.” No “Please”, it wasn’t a question, it was a command. So I got up and peeled, sliced and fried him some taters. I happened to glance at Sven as I went by… so messy!

I used a small plate for his food this morning. He didn’t flip it, but he scattered it and then went to his Judgey Corner.

Ben’s taters were done around 9:00. I sat back down on the couch and waited for further commands. He ate his taters, asked for several juices, had me do more writing, cutting and taping… normal stuff.

10:30 meds were given right after he stood in the middle of the room and yelled as loud as he could for as long as he could. Why? Shrek

I told him he needed to be quiet, Mommy was sleeping. He sat on the couch and started “drumming”. Whatever… it was quieter than his scream. I also took pity on Sven, still in his Judgey Corner, and put him in the shower.

Bright yellow and happy! Lucky Sven Dragon. I took him out at noon, right before I gave Ben his half Adderall. I tried to put Sven on his hammock but he ran to the food plate, then went to his Pouting Corner. He was still yellow so I figured he was just showing his displeasure that there was no new food on his plate.

Daughter got up at 1:30 and came to relieve me on living room duty. I gave my report and headed straight to my room to lay down. I remember looking at the time at 2:20 when I heard Daughter getting Ben’s meds ready and thinking “she’s late” and then I was drifting off. I started to surface a couple times but sank back under again. I woke up and forced myself to stay awake at 4:30.

About 10 minutes later Ben came into my room, his Gramma Sense must’ve been tingling. He said something about getting dressed and going to the store for a new Hershey bar. I told him that Mommy was cooking his dinner (I could smell chicken nuggets in the toaster oven), but he started again with the getting dressed cock a doodle dookie. I went and got a Hershey bar from the fridge and gave it to him. The toaster oven dinged while I was getting the chocolate and randomly Daughter said “I don’t wanna be a pirate.” so I told her not to be a pirate. I asked if she’d heard from her coworker about the test results. She said the gal texted her that the results were negative, but they are retesting her in a week. Daughter said “…because they suspect a false negative” but I got the sense that SHE added that part. She said she’s still worried, sometimes I think she enjoys the drama.

Ben has his dinner. It’s getting to be about that time. Here’s tonight’s song

Another day’s adventure comes to a close. Thank you, as always, for hanging out at Casa Cuckoo with us. Today started way too early, didn’t it? We’ll keep our fingers crossed that tomorrow’s Bounce is at a more reasonable hour. Whatever time it happens, you’re always welcome to join us.

HUGS!

  1. Ughhh that sounds horrible. I hope the next report is better. At least Sven was mellow.

My day was okay, though I did nothing but fiddle-faddle. I read half a book and this one is gonna get a low rating. Gotta be honest!

Tomorrow going to the office ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yay! Going to the office… someplace different but still safe!! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ
I was really surprised at how little traffic there was on Tuesday at 8am. I was doing 75 the whole way, in the slow lanes. I wish it was always like that.

This morning I was thinking of Berlin

      Ugh!

    1. The day is still going… I just got back from the grocery store. Still have to see Daughter off to work. Very long day! Thank goodness Ben was in a mostly good mood. It’s the bad days that seem to never end.

I hope you rest well too!๐Ÿ›Œ๐Ÿ’ค๐Ÿฆ„๐ŸŒŠ

  2. Oh my goodness, I remember those days. The days you were so tired and one more ridiculous demand was going to send you over the edge. I gotta hand it to you – you kept your wits and handled it all like a pro! A lot of the times I could handle the situation but would take it out later on someone else. Glad you got through such a long day. I hope you were able to get some rest last night!!

    1. I got 4.5-5 hours๐Ÿ˜ฏ I feel like a couple more hours would’ve been helpful, but I’m not complaining. 5:00 is a reasonable hour… for Ben๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Thanks! I didn’t handle it as Zen as I could’veโ˜น I was Huffing & Puffing for a while. I told Ben I was sad because he wouldn’t let me sleep and he started to cry… he never cries. Boy, I felt like a pile of๐Ÿ’ฉโ˜น Ah well, perfection is for deities and saints…I’m just human.๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’—

    1. Right?! There have been times when I went weeks with just a wipe down…getting into the shower seemed like way too much work. It feels better after, but making myself do it was too much effort.
I think it happens more than people want to admit.

    1. Yeah, long day and I went to the grocery store after everyone else was asleep. ๐Ÿ˜ฃ I really miss running errands at 10 or 11 in the morning, while Ben was at school.

At least it was a fairly calm day. I’m thankful for that! And yes, awesome that the test was negative. Daughter is still worried that it was a false negative and blah blah blah… she’s a worrier.๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

  3. Poor you – no sleep – but you were calm and carried on! It must be so hard when you’re tired like that. I truly admire your zen. Hope you get some rest later. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I’ve been working with a sleep deficit for…oh 31 years or so๐Ÿ™„ Since my first child was born. I have power naps when I can. I’m not operating any heavy machinery, so I think we’re okay๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’Œ

    1. Yeah… that was a rough one. I can’t help but nod off, but Ben was watching or listening to my breathing change, whatever… he’d wake me up.
Chronic insomnia… once, before medication, I was awake for 72 hours. No nodding off, nothing. I had auditory hallucinations, my eyes felt huge and spacey… I’ll take two hours over zero hours.๐Ÿ˜‰
