Part 72 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I watched the sunset yesterday evening. I try to catch at least part of it every evening. It cheers me up, brings me peace and the colors renew my awe and wonder. Interesting clouds and pretty colors last night.

I took my pill at 10:30 last night and was asleep by 11:00. Unfortunately, the Bounce occured at 3:00 this morning. A quick cuddle was followed by a command to relocate. I was on the couch by 3:20. Goooooood Morning Casa Cuckoo!!

Ben bebopped and paced, squirmed and wiggled and did a little “drumming” on the couch. Around 5:00 he dumped his chalk and started settling down and focusing on shaving, shaping and arranging the pieces.

He played with the chalk for about an hour, then saw Diesel Cat and wanted to play with him. Zeus saw him too and wanted to sniff him, and when he ran, chase him. Ben went outside to wreck some havoc. He came back inside panting, out of breath so he must’ve done a good job.

6:30 meds were given and Sven was uncovered. I dumped his uneaten food from yesterday, including the grasshopper, and got him some fresh food.

Mr Grumpy Beard ate his grasshopper and the two blueberries, then parked himself in the Judgey Corner

Daughter texted and arrived at the usual times. Zeus was whining at her but she ignored him, said hello to Ben, and went to the bathroom. I told Zeus he had to sit and wait, then she would greet him. When she came out of the bathroom he wasn’t sitting, but he wasn’t whining and wiggling either. She stopped, petted him and told him he was a Good Dog several times. Of course he had to come right over to me “Did I do good? She said I’m a Good Dog. Did you see? Did you hear?” Big Dummy…

It was 7:30 and she asked Ben to come to her room, he was trying to grab all his stuff and having issues, so I helped him. I wanted to go lay down in my room. I really wanted to sleep but I knew Ben wouldn’t stay with Daughter long and I didn’t want to be logey and grumpy.

A wise decision, as it turns out. Ben came and commanded me to the living room at 8:45. I plopped down on the chaise part of the couch and Ben took the spot next to me. He watched my tablet or played “drums” or played with his Barber Chairs… just goofed off.

He finally settled on playing with his letters. The alphabet letters that are fridge magnets without the magnets. We got a bunch of them over the years from the dollar store. He arranged them in ways that made sense to him. Then he wanted me to tape the arrangements together.

HRH allowed me to take a break from taping to get and administer his meds at 10:30, then it was back to taping. When I had finished he ate some Ritz crackers and combined some of the sets and did the scrunched side-eye looking at them from different angles thing.

When he finished the crackers he left the letters and went over to the chalk area to play with the chalk. He took his noon half Adderall in the chalk area. I switched on the AC at noon also. It was getting warmer and stuffy in the living room. It’s supposed to be in the high 70s or low 80s (26-28C) for the next week or so. I guess the AC will be on in the afternoon most days. Not turning it on early enough yesterday was a mistake. Sven turned around when I turned the air on, but didn’t move from the corner. Either he was bummed that he couldn’t look outside anymore or he was tired of Judging me.

Ben was done doing the chalk thang and came back to the couch around 1:00. I gave him the tablet and he asked for his. I told him that his tablet was broken. He said “Buy a new one.” I assured him that we would get a new one, but until then he could use mine. He put the earbuds in and started munching on Blue Ramen.

Around 1:30 he went outside. I went to see what he was getting into and found him standing on a small dresser that is part of the crap that needs to be hauled away. He had pushed it over under Daughter’s bedroom window and was talking to her. I helped him down and we came inside. Daughter came out to take over. I apologized for him waking her up early (she usually sleeps until 2:00), but she waved it off saying she’d set her alarm for 1:30 today. She’s off tonight so she can sleep all night.

I gathered my stuff and went to my room, Zeus and Ben followed. I noticed as I walked by that Sven had gone into his house. It’s another sign that he might be getting ready to worry me by doing a brumation.

Apparently I, and Ben dozed off because at 3:45 Daughter was shaking Ben (Bedquakes!) trying to get him to wake up. It was too late for a nap and too early for bedtime. It just sucks that he happened to be in my bed, so I got woken up too. After she was sure he was awake she went to the living room. Ben went after her at first, then he came back to my room with me.

After hanging out with me for a while he went outside. Daughter cooked his steak for him and now he’s eating. It’s time to play a song, unrelated to anything except I like it, this cover and the original.

Very different from the original by Disturbed

Today was so much better than yesterday. It was a good day and I want to thank all of you for your support and good thoughts! I believe they help, truly! I hope you’ll stop by tomorrow and hang out with us. Daughter is off tonight so she’ll be awake during the day tomorrow… anything could happen.

HUGS!!

  1. It would be so fascinating to know what meaning the letters have for Ben. 🧐. I’m glad you get to enjoy some of the sunset. They really are beautiful there! 🦄🦎🥰💝

    1. It would be cool to see what he sees. It must be really different from the way I see things. I mean we ALL see differently but his autistic brain adds a whole different perspective.
I’m glad you like the sunset pictures. I get a little carried away sometimes 🙊😊😂 Are they really different from your sunsets? You’ve got all those trees… I live in a valley so its prettiest when it goes behind the hills to the west but is still above the horizon. Maybe in a couple months I can go watch at the ocean again, and post pics of that.
      Thanks for hanging out!🤗🥰🦄🌊🌸💌

      1. It seems like the winter sunsets are stronger here and the summer ones are sort of faded. But, that could just be because they’re earlier so I’m more likely to see the whole thing 🤣. Yours have a Lot of beautiful strong color to them 😍. Behind the hills sounds amazing! And at the ocean too! Thanks for the fun! 🥰🦄🎶🦋🤗💌💝

  2. I’m glad you had a good day! Those 3:45 naps are a killer! I hope he went to bed well last night. When Declan had his 2 or 3 AM wake-ups everything was fine if he fell asleep around 5 or 6 AM for an hour or so. But nothing later. I hope today is an awesome day for casa cuckoo!

  3. So is Sven okay? I’m curious about a word you used that I’ve never heard (I don’t think anyway) “brumation”? Bearded dragon brumation? It sounds rather bad. Here’s hoping it’s not. Your life is certainly full! Lovely to hang out with your family like this! 🙂

    1. Brumation is like hibernation for reptiles. I linked an article a few posts back, but you could just look it up🤷🏼‍♀️ Its a normal thing they do, usually in winter. But in Sven’s defense, Bearded Dragons are from Australia so its getting close to winter there. Maybe he’s got a stronger genetic link to his ancestors 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

I’m glad you stopped by on one of our chill days… Today didn’t start well… it’s never boring, that’s for sure.🌻

    1. I’ve asked about the letters and sometimes I recognize a sort of shorthand for some words…most are just a mystery. They mean something to him though. He’s emphatic about the order.
The sunsets have been gorgeous and they really cheer me and recharge me. And best of all, I can watch them practically from my bed😉

      1. One day we will be able to read that language – l personally think it’s all about cracking the pattern. That is lucky to be able to see the sunsets as you do 🙂
