Part 98 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Younger Daughter came over with Kris the sssneezy sssick ssssnake after we left off last night. She arrived just as Ben was finishing his steak. She brought me flowers that she picked. I love how she still picks flowers for me!

They’re pretty but they don’t have much scent

Older Daughter put Ben to bed, we all gave him kisses and then Older shot the snake… or gave Kris her injection, if you prefer. Hugs and goodbyes and I got ready for sunset. There were clouds so I was excited.

It was an hour well-spent, and a perfect ending to a good day. I went to sleep sometime after 11:00pm

The Bounce came at 1:30 and I wasn’t very happy about it. Especially when I was commanded to the living room immediately. I could tell that he was AWAKE and there was no point in arguing, so I went.

We settled on the couch. He watched his tablet, ate Apple Jacks and chugged water, I did some WP stuff and email stuff.

Daughter came out a little after 3:00 to use the bathroom then got her stuff and took over. I went back to room, hoping to be asleep again very quickly. It wasn’t meant to be…

Ben followed and wanted me to repair his Big Ben Clock. Dogzilla had whacked it with his tail… Big Dummy! So I got up, found the tape and did the necessary repairs. Then I went back to bed.

Ben followed again. Skipping the details, I spent the hour between 4am and 5am building three pyramids. My memory of Geometry was never good, but at 4am it was nonexistent. It’s probably why HRH wasn’t satisfied with any of my efforts. He gave me permission to withdraw so I went to my room to wash away the shame with my tears… or go back to sleep, if you prefer.

Seeing Diesel Cat gave me an idea. I got the “fishing pole” cat toy and gave it to Ben. He loves to play with Diesel or pretend he’s the boy in the DreamWorks logo. Either way, no Arts and Crafts Time would be required of me.

As I was reading in my bed I could hear Ben telling Daughter he wanted to go to her room. (She’d been on the couch throughout this whole little drama) She was all for going to her room. I also approved of this idea. Off they went, Ben, Daughter and Diesel Cat and all the miscellaneous stuff. I smiled when I heard the door close.

I got Bounced again around 9:00 and commanded to relocate. I was happy I’d gotten some more sleep but it was as usual, not nearly enough. I often wonder what it’s like to wake up naturally. Maybe stretch out in bed and collect your thoughts as the transition from sleep to fully awake happens slowly, gently. It must be a nice feeling. Sigh…

Back to the living room and poor Sven was still covered up. Not that it matters to him, he sleeps whether it’s light or dark. I uncovered him and turned his lights on whether he cared or not. He opened his eyes, glared and closed his eyes again.

Ben and I just hung out. He munched, surfed and played with his chalk a little bit. I messed around on my phone and did peasant/servant errands… mostly refilling his water bottle. We need to get him a bigger one. I think the one he has only holds eight ounces. He had a bigger one but lost it at school or on the bus. Meds at 10:30 and noon were the only indication of time passing. The restarted morning was better than the original one. LOTS better.

Daughter came out to take over a little after noon and I went back to Horizontal Time. Ben came in around 1:00 and started dozing off. I woke him up and told him I didn’t think he needed to take another nap (Daughter said he slept from 6:15ish until he woke me up). He said “I’m sleepy.” I told him that I was sleepy too, but I had to stay awake, so did he. I checked with Daughter since she’s off tonight (last “off” night, she goes back to work tomorrow [Friday] night), she said it would be better for him to doze at 1pm than 3pm. Agreed. The plan was to try to keep him awake, but not try so hard that he gets mad. Agreed again.

Ben stayed awake, watching his tablet with earbuds in. I’d look over at him every few minutes just to make sure. He even got up and came back with the Goldfish crackers. I figured he was past the drowzies and wasn’t checking him as often. I was responding to an email when Daughter said “He’s sleeping” WHAT?! He was just crunching goldfish, I heard it… he had meds due at 2:30. We agreed to let him be until meds were given, then assess and re-evaluate.

Meds were given to a barely awake King Ben and he flopped back down to resume his nap. We decided to wake him up again around 4:00 or 4:30. His next dose of meds is usually (now the the new schedule) at 6:20ish and Daughter planned on cooking his chicken around 4:30 or 5:00.

Daughter woke Ben up at 4:30. He was Mr Grumpypants! He kept telling her to “Go Away!” I was talking to Younger on the phone at the time and she was wondering why Ben was yelling. I explained about his nap and his Mama waking him up… “Ah… Yep! That’s Ben.” She agreed.

And, I think that’s it for today. Older is getting ready to cook chicken for Ben. He’s munching on Goldfish right now because I’m not telling him he can’t. I said hello to him after I got off the phone, he didn’t tell me to go away, he told me to get dressed and go to the store. Yeah… not gonna say the word “No” if it can be avoided right now. Let him eat Goldfish, I say…

Tonight’s song was inspired by Paula’s Thursday Inspiration Prompt post. She used a few lines from the song, a favorite of mine, so I thought I’d play the whole thing for you guys.

Thanks for stopping by Casa Cuckoo and hanging out with us. We’re one day closer to the big ONE HUNDRETH Adventure. I’ve had one really excellent suggestion (Thank you, Brian!) but I’m still taking ideas if you’ve got one. We can have a grand, mixed Adventure. Think about it and let me know when you stop by tomorrow.

    1. Ben was very stingy with his Goldfish crackers today. He wouldn’t share with ME😲 Waking him up is a risky affair. He doesn’t have any trouble waking everyone else up though… including the neighborhood when he wants to make noise outside at 2am🤦‍♀️ King Ben indeed 😂😂
I’m glad you like the pictures, thanks for hanging out. See ya tomorrow, coffee will be ready😉☕

    1. I’m glad Paula reminded me of the song.
I’m always leery of sleeping in the afternoon especially, it’s when Ben is apt to have the most trouble and it makes me feel more tired and heavy. Logey is what I call it. I’d love to just sleep until I wake up…
But my insomnia probably wouldn’t cooperate if I had the time🤷🏼‍♀️🙄🤣🤗🥰

      1. Normally I am too. But you have exceptional circumstances. But obviously you know better. I just hope that there are days when you do get to sleep in. Maybe when the yellow bus will come again.

  1. “He gave me permission to withdraw so I went to my room to wash away the shame with my tears…”

Great line, and it sounds like something from a novel concerning intrigue at a Medieval Castle in the south of France. “Lady Angie knew that something was amiss with the placement of the apple in the roasted pig. Alas, before she could fully investigate the matter, she was summoned to the Throne Room of King Ben of ChalkLandia. A humbling discussion ensued, and the day darkened…”

  2. Well done on your pyramidal efforts – now you must know how the Egyptian slaves felt!! The Cynder Lauper song is a real favourite of mine – very emotional song. x

    1. I dont blame Ben for being disappointed with my pyramids. They were made quickly and without and measurements. In my defense, it was 4am🤪 Ben often makes me feel like a slave. 😂

I was glad that Paula “reminded” me of that song. I knew I had to use it!

  3. Great job on the arts and crafts! You have the patience of a saint. I get so frustrated at times that I have my own little temper tantrum with those things. I love that song – it is one of those that takes me back to being a kid and singing it with the kids on the street while we were riding bikes. Good times! 🙂

    1. Oh, I have tantrums! I try very hard not to because if I crumble up a paper and throw it away, Ben gets upset and gets the crumbled paper and either starts using his angry voice or asking the paper if it’s okay🤦‍♀️ Gramma isn’t allowed to have ANY negative emotions.

I was in my teens when that song came out. Perfect for Teen Angst! I used to cry (just like Cyndi) every time I heard it😢🙄😂
