Part 115 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Last night continued it’s chill vibe. After Ben was clean and playing in the tub, I decided to drive up to the drugstore real quick to gets a few snacky snack things for Ben. The corner market has been out of poofs and as stated before, only carry the big Hershey bars, which are unacceptable to HRH.

The drugstore had a sale on the poofs, SCORE! and Daughter’s wine was on sale too, but zero Hershey bars. So I had to go to the grocery store in the same little shopping center.

They had a big table of 50% off items, and my eye spied the gummy snacks Ben likes, the ONLY brand he like. SCORE! so I grabbed two boxes, grabbed some coffee creamer and went looking in the candy aisle. No packs of Hershey bars. So I went to a closed register and looked… 10 for $10… SCORE! A HAT TRICK!!

The line for the Express register was long so I went and found a shorter line. I was back home inside forty-five minutes, but I was sweating and had a headache, it was still 91F (33C) outside.

Stuff put away, I waited for sunset… and almost konked out and missed this

The last picture was taken when it was full dark, but there was still color along the horizon for a long time.

I did night stuff and was just about to take my pill and head to dreamland when I heard Ben. He had gotten up to use the bathroom around 8:00pm, but I figured surely he was asleep by 10:00. Nope! He didn’t get up again, but I worried for a while because Daughter had gone to sleep at 9pm. I finally took my pill and went to sleep around midnight.

“Gramma come living room!” at 5am. I got up and was gathering my things when Daughter came down the hall and told me to go back to bed. No argument there. King Ben goes where King Ben will, so he was back in my room many many times. He and Zeus engaged in a lively game of tug and fetch across my bed at once point. The Big Dummy stepping on me, because I was in the way, I guess. I stayed in bed (ON bed? I had pulled a light throw over me, but it was stolen by Ben) until 9:30ish. I was awake at 9:00 but didn’t want the rest of the house to know. But then my bladder was awake too, so it won.

Daughter had uncovered Sven and turned his lights on, but he hadn’t moved. I lifted the blanket and peeked and got glared at, so all is well. Ben followed me back from the bathroom and of course my Velcro Dog was a half step in front on me. At 10am Daughter went to her room, Ben immediately commanded that I relocate. I held off for fifteen whole minutes and nearly fifteen repetitions of the command. Ben sat on the couch for about five minutes then moved to the chalk area.

From a little after 11am until 12:30 it was Arts and Crafts Time. “Draw the moon.” The moon from the DreamWorks intro was drawn, and traced and cut out several times. Then I had to draw Ben Fishing. I have told Ben a gazillion times that I suck at drawing. I really do! It’s just not a talent I posses. I’d love to be able to doodle or draw cartoon-like images… even my stick figures are awful. I’ve accepted it, I wish Ben would. He wants me to “try again” He’s sweetly encouraging and very annoying.

At 12:30 he gave up on me and went back to his chalk. He gave up on that and came back to the couch at some point. I wasn’t really paying attention to the time. I was kinda surprised when the 2:30 med alarm went off.

Daughter stumbled out to take over around 2:45. I went to my room for Horizontal Time, followed by Zeus and Ben.

Ben spent the afternoon going back and forth. The afternoon spaz wasn’t as intense as it can be, but the hot temperatures had tempers frayed a bit. Still, we managed to keep things fairly chill.

The countdown to Driving Miss Daisy has begun. Ben is eating pizza in my room and watching a movie on Daughter’s phone. Why her phone? Because his name is Ben. It’s better not to question these things.

Thank you for spending some time with us at Casa Cuckoo! Every day is different. Even when it’s a chill day, weird things happen or there’s Daughter Drama… I appreciate you guys coming back day after day! My life is a bad Soap Opera… cheap costumes, crappy props and overly dramatic acting… it does have a killer soundtrack though! Stay tuned for tomorrow episode…

    1. My days are a never ending soap opera๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ Pretty good today.๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ Tomorrow it’s only supposed to be 88F, so that will be nice. Still too hot IMO, but better than yesterday’s 99F!
Enjoy your evening & sleep well!๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฅฐ

  1. Wow, there were a lot of SCORES! That is awesome. I love it when things work out like that! I am glad you all had a pretty chill day. I hope today is just as good (and maybe a little cooler)! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I was excited to see the gummy snacks, but a little worried too. He only likes the Kellogg ones. I’m hoping they’re just going to change the theme. For a while it was Minions, then Paw Patrol. He doesnt seem to care about that, but he can taste the difference in the brands.
And the poofs… Ugh! It’s pointless to buy a big bag because once it’s open, it has to be eaten at once or tossed. I quit giving them to Zeus and even though it killed me a little threw them away. Stuff is stale no matter how quickly or well I reseal it. Just chips though. Crackers are okay.๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ I just follow the rules๐Ÿ˜‚ There’s no point in arguing.
It’s only supposed to be 88 today, so hopefully the 90s will stay in the desert where they belong๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฅฐ

  2. When a glare means all is well ๐Ÿคฃ
Clearly Ben believes in your inner artist and has every intention of bringing it out! You will be a master when heโ€™s done ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฆ„

  3. I have a velcro dog too. We’ve recently taken on a little rescue – he’s only 8 months old and came from a ‘designer’ puppy farm where he was mistreated and malnourished. So sad but he has a second chance with us now. I love him all ready and the feeling is mutual as he is my constant shadow. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Good for you on the rescue! We got Zeus from the shelter. We’ve never “bought” a pet. They’ve almost all been street rescues.
I don’t mind most of the time, but when I’m back and forth and he’s underfoot I get annoyed. I’ve almost tripped over him, he steps on the back of my shoes, just UGH! A little personal space would be appreciated ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ He’s a big goof, but I love him!

      1. It seems wrong to buy puppies from breeders when there are so many needing homes. Here in the UK people have been buying puppies like mad during lockdown and prices have tripled! I can see lots of dogs in the shelters once all this is over and everyone goes back to their normal lives. I know what you mean about being underfoot. Mine lies behind me when I’m making dinner – the number of times I’ve almost come a cropper!! But you can’t help but love them!!

  4. Sounds like it was a decent day, especially with the snacky snack trifecta.

I can’t draw very well either, much to my annoyance. I’m envious of folks who can sit down and whip out something gorgeous in a matter of minutes. I can spend an hour on something, and I still have to explain to horrified viewers what it actually IS… ๐Ÿ˜‰
