Part 121 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Not even five minutes after publishing yesterday’s Adventures, Ben informed me that I needed to “get dressed and go to the store.” He said it a few times earlier but I ignored it. This time he went and got my wallet for me. What did he want me to run out and get real quick?? The “One Ring” from LOTR. Seriously?

When he asked about it earlier I gave him a ring that was a cheap piece of costume jewelry. I guess that wasn’t acceptable. He wanted the gold band with the writing on it. As I always do, I tried to explain why I couldn’t just pop over to CVS and pick up that ring for him.

He was getting upset for real, so I told him I had something else for him. From my secret stash I produced a Cars 3 #92 car. This was something else he recently had to have, so we sat together and ordered it. There’s another car coming now too. Anyway, the #92 car was accepted and off he went to gets all his other cars from Cars. Another save by Gramma!

Dinner and bath went well enough, then we took Daughter to work. I drove back home and put Ben and Zeus in bed, a kiss goodnight and relaxing time until sunset.

After sunset I discovered that Younger Daughter had stopped by the house while I was taking Older to work. She left a note

on the paper that I put up for the running grocery list. She was doing Postmates and stopped to use the bathroom and grab a drink and a snack.

I did night things and was thinking about taking my pill and going to sleep really early, like 9pm, but I heard Ben. The little stinker was still awake! I don’t know what has been up with him lately, staying awake until 9:30 or 10:00. His meds used to pretty much knock him out. They make him dopey for sure, but he’s not going right to sleep anymore. I guess as long as he’s staying in his room, it’s all good.

I finally went to sleep around 11pm and woke up around 5am… SIX HOURS! Shocking, right?! I have no idea why I woke up at 5:00, Ben was still sleeping. I stayed in bed and went through my email and WP. He did the yelling run-by just before 6am.

I got up and met him in the living room. It was cool this morning so I put my sweater on him. It’s kinda heavy so I thought the weight might help too. He was full of energy, as usual. The med alarm reminded me to dope his face, which I did, then uncovered Mr Brumation, aka Sven the Grumpy Dragon. I paparazzi’d him, then tried to get him to open his eyes. It took me jiggling his tail and he flinched so hard it startled me. Then, I got The Glare. I apologized and put the blanket back.

I wish I could brumate like Sven…

Ben and I left to get Daughter from work at 7:15, drove slowly, found her waiting for us and came home to Dogzilla. Daughter went to her room, I cleaned up the mess Dogzilla had made out of the mess Ben had left and began my Couch Sittin’. Ben dumped his chalk, then changed his mind and sat on the couch with his tablet. His newest show of interest is “Ladybug and Cat Noir”. It’s animated, but I have no idea what it’s about, he watches everything with earbuds in.

He went and played with the chalk he’d dumped for a while, but it isnt as much fun. He asked me for new chalk and I told him I’ve been looking at the store, every time I go, which is true, but they haven’t had any. I told him I would look online and try to order some. (I was able to find a pack of five glitter chalk that will be here Monday and a big pack with twenty-one that will come the end of next week)

He moved back to the couch and a box of the Pink Cookies I got at the store yesterday. Regular, normal Ben routine stuff. He was still wearing the sweater over his nightgown and the clouds had burnt off long ago, so I switched the AC on at 11:30. The Living Room/Kitchen/Bathroom cube of the weird, cobbled together house gets full sun all day, so it heats up and stays warm until sundown.

Daughter came out to take over right after I gave Ben his 2:30 meds. We were just hanging out on the couch. Her check came in the mail so I put on some “public” shorts, mask and the hated shoes and went to deposit it in her bank. Ben had followed me to my room and I told him I needed to go deposit Mommy’s check at the bank, and asked if he wanted to wait in my room or go back to the living room. He said “Wait in Gramma’s room.” I told him he was silly, it was cooler in the living room. He ignored me.

He was waiting for me when I got back. He even said “Welcome back, Gramma.” I thanked him very kindly for the welcome and changed back into my comfy shorts. He went to the living room after that, making his Happy Noises.

He was back and forth between the living room and my room, just watching his tablet or playing. He had me do some Arts and Crafts, little stuff. The usual afternoon crack out didn’t seem imminent. Very nice!

Daughter is starting his dinner. He’s having steak tonight. The evening countdown is beginning…

Thank you, as always for coming along on our Adventures. Not a lot of Adventuring today except a trip to the bank and Driving Miss Daisy. It was nice to not hear angry words. Happy Noises are always preferable. Things can change here at Casa Cuckoo, and change quickly. Come hang out tomorrow, maybe Sven will wake up, maybe Ben will turn into Mr Incredible again, maybe we’ll have a mellow day like today. Ya just never know…

    1. Pain is sucky!!😠
Older is terrified of cars. She has been since she was little. We never had an accident or anything, but she’s just always been afraid. She doesnt even like riding in cars, but likes public transport less. She won’t drive. It sure would make my life easier if she could.
I hope your pain goes bye bye soon!🥰

    1. Getting paid late is always a bummer. Whoever was in charge of getting everything done for her in the hospital’s system messed up. There have been so many little issues. This is the year for it🤷🏼‍♀️

Younger leaves me notes, picks flowers for me… she’s a good Daughter. They both are! They’re both cool people, I like them as well as love them❣🤗🥰

    1. I buy cheap dollar toys and when he has to have something and we order it, if he isn’t asking about it every day, I put it away, so I can give it to him in a moment to avert disaster or as a “Well Done” treat.
Being disabled and not working, most of my focus is on him. I’ve tried to stay a few steps ahead because when disaster strikes, it’s often catastrophic and no one wants that.🤗🥰

    1. Sven is so silly, not recognizing that he’s in the Northern Hemisphere… brumating in Summer🤦‍♀️😆 I guess that genetic link to his ancestors Down Under must be strong in him🤷🏼‍♀️
Even a couple of days of hibernation would be bliss!❤
