Part 140 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Everything with the schedule went good last night. The Boys went to bed on time and went to sleep not too long after. I looked at the sunset here and there, took a few pictures, but nothing I haven’t posted a bunch of times, so we’ll skip that part.

One thing I’ve noticed is, the sun is definitely setting farther and farther south each night. I have a picture from Summer Solstice, I’ll see if I have one from the Equinox too. I’ll post them together and you can see the difference. Education at Casa Cuckoo, who’da thunk it?

Younger never did come get the car. I didn’t really expect her to. She finally got her tax refund and her stimulus money so she’s okay financially for right now. She’s still looking for a job, but with things shut back down cuz people are Idjits, the job market is non existent.

I had Older change the dressing on my leg. The pad was slipping (don’t you just hate when that happens), the gauze was slipping, and the whole thing was bugging me. It’s healing well. There is still some swelling around the worst parts, but the long split is scabbing over and it looks good. I mean, it looks terrible, but the healing looks good.

I took my pill at 10pm but didn’t go to sleep until around midnight. One kitty wanted love and the other kitty wanted to sing and play. GRRRR! Cats!

I got the “polite” wakeup again today. He cracks me up! “Excuse me. Gramma come living room, please.” I thanked him for using his manners and told him I was on the way.

It was 6:04am when I had everything set and settled, so the wakeup was probably around 5:45am… normal time. We just hung out, each with our devices, him laying against my left shoulder, until it was time for his meds. Meds were given and I made “morning” for Sven The Brumating Dragon.

“Move along. Nothing to see…”

More chillin on the couch. I drank coffee, he munched Apple Jacks and drank water. He hasn’t had a “juice” since he was so sick. It’s great, water is better for him, cheaper and better for the environment too. It’s just so weird after so many years of having to make sure we always had it, then he just stopped. He’ll still ask for “‘nother juice, please” out of habit. If we give him one, he puts it aside and asks for what he meant to ask for. So weird.

Daughter got up around 8:00 and we did the Couch Sittin Shuffle. I got more coffee and went to my room for Horizontal Time.

Ben played, he Bounced me, he harrassed Zeus, he hung out with Daughter… it was mostly chill. Even the weather was nice, 78-79F (26C). I called my doctor’s office around 1:00pm about the medication needing refill. I spoke to an actual person and they sent the refills over. What?! I was starting to get a little scared. I’m not used to all this smooth running.

Ben’s doctor called Daughter back and Ben’s med situation got sorted too. Why was everything going right?! That almost never happens at Casa Cuckoo. We have good days, sure… but two doctors’ offices taking care of medication requests so easily? Maybe that happens to other people, but my experience was usually phone-tag and delays, delays, delays…

At 3:30 Daughter went to her room to charge her devices. I decided to stay in my room until Ben came to get me. He used to play in the living room by himself, there’s no reason why he can’t do it now.

Around 4pm he knocked the cardboard out of the window. Daughter had turned the AC on earlier and if it’s gonna run, the rest of the open window needs to stay blocked. I went to investigate.

Ben saw me and said “Gramma come living room.” I told him he could’ve just asked without knocking the cardboard out. So, after picking up all the dominoes before Dogzilla could scatter them hither and yon, I took up Couch Sittin. Ben was eating Oreos, drinking a mini can of Diet Coke and watching his tablet. Exciting times at the Casa today, folks.

Daughter came to take back the Couch Sittin Duty around 5:00pm. Ben was playing with his chalk and making Happy Noises. She called the pharmacy to make sure Ben’s meds had been filled, they were. I got a text that my Protonix was ready.

Daughter is starting Ben’s dinner. First med is about a half hour away. I’ll probably go pick up the meds, and a few other things, while Ben is eating.

Thank you for stopping by today. I know the Adventures weren’t the usual kind, I know there weren’t many laughs, but I didn’t fall down and injure myself, that’s good right?! I have to go pick up the rest of the meds tonight, so who knows what could happen? Come back tomorrow and I’ll tell ya all about it.

  1. Hey, I’m also fond of the days where nothing happens since most surprises are bad now. Wishing you a chill night and more dull hours of things going right tomorrow!

PS: maybe Ben associates juice with illness now

    1. Thanks! I love the dull days, but they’re so rare that they scare me. It’s been months, before March 13th, since I laid on my bed all day. My leg is happier for the rest too.

You might be right about the juice association. I was thinking maybe it’s too sweet too. He drinks soda, but its diet coke🤷🏼‍♀️

    2. Illness by association of X. I can relate to that with Duck Eggs, amde scrambled egg once using duck eggs, they were slightly off and so l became seriously seriously ill – now l only have to hear Duck and Egg in the same sentence and l am already running down the hill!

    1. Dull days are awesome, but I always feel like I’m being lulled right before the hammer drops. I’m so used to chaos, or a little calm here and there, that dull days feel unnatural. I’m trying to just enjoy them. I did pretty good today. Guess it’s good the leg wasn’t fully healed or I would have found stuff to DO instead of relaxing 🤦🏼‍♀️
Relaxing is good. “Stuff” can wait.😉💌💌

      1. It was a good one. Now my time is totally turned on it’s head. Exactly 12 hours difference, will get some getting used to it. Take care. Hope it was a good day today.

  2. I love the polite wake ups! So cute! And I am glad your leg is healing well. And, wow – that is a whole lot of things working out with the medications. Awesome! Chalk that one up to a “good day.” I hope you have another one today just the same!

    1. I don’t know if I can handle two good days in a row. Yesterday so many things went right, it made me nervous. 🙄😂😂 I like the mostly good days. A little chaos is my comfort zone, it’s my “normal”🤣🤣🤣

  3. It’s a little sad that we get nervous when things go smoothly with the doctors and pharmacies. I have one prescription that I get refilled every month, and I have for years, at the SAME pharmacy. Things were fine until this year. Now, every month, they don’t have a enough on hand to completely fill the prescription, so they give me a partial, order more, and I get the rest a few days later. EVERY MONTH so far this year. You’d think somebody would go “hey, he gets this same amount every month, maybe we should make sure we have that amount in stock?” Geez.

Okay, enough about me. I’m glad it was a relatively peaceful day. I hope you savored it.

    1. I did savor it. But only because of my gimpy leg and because the voices telling me to chill were louder than the voices telling me “beware”. I think the morphine might have helped too.😆

Why is your pharmacy jerking you around like that? Sheesh! Once or twice, yeah okay, a new person with a new prescription… But every month? I know the DEA and their “opiate war” has caused problems for pharmacies. They’re only allowed to order X number of certain medications per month or they get sent to the corner or something. Its ridiculous!
