Part 146 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

The chill continued last night through dinner, bath and bedtime. I looked at the sunset and took my Science picture, collected my data

The Sun is south of the power pole. I think it will get to that deeper notch in the trees before October. I hope I’ll be able to see where it sets on Winter Solstice from my spot in the side door.

The rest of sunset was pretty, but meh… zero clouds except a weird line in the east

There’s the telephone and cable lines, and under that the weird line of clouds or haze or whatever that is

I told Daughter to look outside at the weirdness. She shrugged and said “Aliens or the government.” I thought of Stephen King and The Mist.

My sleep last night was all over the place. I konked out while writing an e-mail (and deleted and added stuff) around 10pm and woke up after 11pm. I fixed the email and sent it. Then I did some WP stuff, trying to get “ahead” in case circumstances put me “behind” again. Then around 1:30am I went outside to look for the meteor shower. I was a little early for the “peak” but thought I might see something. Nada! I did see Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon, so that was cool. More Sciencey stuff! Then I took my pill and went to sleep sometime after 2am.

Around 6:30am I got the Full Bounce. Ben hasn’t properly Bounced me in forever. He got under the blankets for about fifteen seconds, but no cuddle… maybe because Zeus was in the way, sniffing.

In the living room at HRH’s command, I got his stuff, activated the burbling Coffee Pot Dragon, gave Ben his meds and uncovered Sven Dragon. I said hello to him and petted him with one finger. I startled him and felt bad, I didn’t mean to startle him today.

If I remember previous brumations correctly, it may be October before he wakes up. I have so much envy!

Around 7:45 Daughter got up and came to take over. I gave my short report and relinquished The Spot to her. Ben did the back and forth thing for the next couple hours.

Ben found his little plastic bats and came to entertain me with a drum solo on my bed. He’s pretty good. We might want to get him something other than Zeus, to use as a cymbal though.

When he was in the living room, I could hear Ben singing and making his Happy Noises while he played with his chalk or set up his dominoes. It was a chill morning at Casa Cuckoo.

Around 2:30pm Ben did a cannonball Bounce and decided to stay a while. His tablet died and his cord wasn’t quite long enough to reach, so I got the portable charger for him. Ben had the hiccups and I thought I was going to go crazy. When I was pregnant with Younger, she would get the hiccups just about every night when I was trying to sleep. Ever since then hiccups, my own or someone else’s, seriously get on my nerves. Anyway, between Ben’s hiccups and Zeus panting, many minor bedquakes were occurring.

Daughter went to her room to charge her stuff. Ben was settled in my room with me, that was a good time to do the charging. She came back out around 4:15.

Ben and I had been in the living room. He went out on his own at first and was setting up the Jenga size dominoes. I was gonna go with him, but keeping Dogzilla in the bedroom with me seemed better for Ben’s efforts. Dogzilla wasn’t happy about it. I guess he was hot, hungry or both, because he kept whining and pawing at me. I love that he’s so loyal to me, but sheesh… would he really starve rather than be away from me… in the house? Kinda silly.

Anyway, Zeus got his wish, HRH commanded me to the living room around 4pm. Zeus went immediately to his bowl and inhaled his food, then laid on the tiles next to the couch. When Daughter took over, he followed me back to my room. I kept telling him to go back to the living room, but we don’t call him the Big Dumb Dog for nothing.

Ben stayed in the living room, playing and making Happy Noises. It’s Pregame Show time, even though Daughter is off tonight. She goes back tomorrow night, then has Friday night off, then works Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Dumb schedule!

Aerosmith popped into my head last night and I thought I’d play some here, today. An oldie, but goodie! Recognize the gals in the video? The title is perfect for our house.

Thank you for hanging out on another hot temperature, chill vibe day. We did a whole lot of nothing today and it was fabulous. The pace will pick up tomorrow… some laundry will have to be washed and hung up or I may be doing battle with the Quarter Lady. I won’t know until tomorrow. We have to Drive Miss Daisy tomorrow evening too, that puts some stress into the evening. Tomorrow may be another chill day, or we could have issues… but that’s every day at Casa Cuckoo. Things can change fast. I’ll see ya tomorrow.

  1. I can relate to the weird line of haze you saw – today there were the darkest clouds that kept moving, and rolling all over the place! But they weren’t doing anything. I had Catelyn with me in the car, running errands and I told her I thought the clouds must be aliens trying to determine which one of us humans to steal but they couldn’t settle on who, so they just kept circling. FINALLY, the sky opened up. There was about an hour of heavy rain, and a mad rush to get everything charged in case we were back with all my electric cords. All turned out well with that. But eerie looking at something odd like my clouds and your haze!
The hiccups cracked me up too. When I felt my child have hiccups for the first time, it was cute. Not so much anytime after though – especially at night!
Give the quarter lady hell!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, I’m rooting for you if you cross paths with her tomorrow. Good luck!

    1. Part of me wants to go do battle, but the other part wants to start washing early tomorrow and hang them so I don’t have to deal with it. But then, climbing over the fence thingy to get to the washer is where I hurt my leg so… decisions, decisions ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฃ
๐Ÿ‘ฝ๐Ÿ‘พ๐Ÿค– “no intelligent life”๐Ÿ˜‚ We closed up the house early today. I havent even looked outside except to let Zeus out. I guess I’ll see if it’s still there when I do Sciencey Sunset Stuff๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’–

      1. Oh, yeah – don’t hurt your leg! I am with you in quarter spirit. You are in the right! But if you choose the other way, I am with you there too. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Enjoy your sciency evening! We just walked the dogs before bed and there isn’t a star in sight – much to Declan’s binocular disappointment. Still a bunch of angry cloud cover. Those darn aliens are still deciding. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Itโ€™s kind of you to go to the other room so Zeus wonโ€™t starve. Love it! ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ’ƒ Thatโ€™s Liv for sure but I canโ€™t place the blonde. She looks so familiar. ๐Ÿง

    1. Right?! SOOO much envy!
Younger’s Beardie doesn’t brumate. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Not all of the captive ones do. Sven is still pretty young too… about 3 years old, we think.
I dreamed last night that he came out of his corner doing a drunk stumble step, maybe we’ll see some movement sooner.๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ I don’t run the Casa, I just do what I’m told๐Ÿ˜‰
