Part 155 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Since this is Casa Cuckoo, and Ben is Ben, things got a little wonky after we left off yesterday evening. It wasn’t bad… just wonky.

Daughter made steak for Ben’s dinner. He was wanting to watch her laptop with her, but he wanted to sit on the arm of the couch to do it. Not a great idea. He’s like the rest of us and has issues with gravity. I got him set up next to her with a TV tray. That lasted about five minutes.

I felt the bedquake from him getting on the bed, then I heard the clank of the fork and plate hitting the floor. Ah Dang! All of his steak on the floor. Thank goodness it was carpet and not the tile, otherwise the plate would’ve shattered, but it was bad enough. The steak had dog and cat hair stuck to it. I picked it up, after pushing Zeus away from it, and tried to rinse the hair off. I got most of it, and Ben ate a few pieces, but… yeah…

Then it was bath time and I put more water than usual, hoping it would relax him. He loved the water, played and played and played… We needed to wash those rugs anyway. Sigh!

While he was playing, I went up to Rite Aid to get Daughter’s wine and some masking tape. We’re out of tape! I’ve been lucky that he’s been pretty much occupied with the smaller dominoes, so hasn’t requested anything be taped in the past day or so.

Rite Aid had absolutely no masking tape. They had packing tape, or zebra stripe duct tape… and clear tape. Ugh! I got a roll of the packing tape that didn’t have the strings or whatever in it, but only because it was half price.

The Sun was pretty when I left the store. I took one picture from the parking lot and one on the way home. The regular Sciencey one was taken before I left.

Ben was in bed when I got home, so I put the glowsticks I’d gotten him away with The Stash, leaving one set out on the table, and changed into my holey shorts and tank top. Then I opened the windows and turned off the AC, it was actually cooler. The Guessers may have lucked out and guessed correctly.

I got caught up on my WP Reader… finally! I ate the rest of my Sub In A Tub and did all the regular night things. I was enjoying the cool temperature so much I didn’t realize the time until 11:30pm. The Dilemma… do I stay up, enjoying the cool and the peace, possibly (probably) getting less sleep, or do I take my pill and call it a night?

I took my pill a little after midnight and went to sleep around 1am-ish. Quiet, alone time is just as precious to me as sleep and just lately, it’s been harder to come by.

My wakeup today was Zeus sniffing my ear. Ben had quietly gotten in bed with me. I might’ve even gotten a cuddle if a Big Dumb Dog hadn’t been in the way. When I checked the time, it was 6:15am… an acceptable wakeup time. I’d pretty much slept through also, so that’s a good five hours. Awesome! Even more awesome was that we stayed in bed until the med alarm made me get up a half hour later.

The three of us made our way to the living room. I did the meds, made the coffee, uncovered Sven and paparazzi’d him

It looks like he’s smiling.

I got my coffee and began my Couch Sittin. Ben reminded me that he wanted me to Write The Words. Specifically, he wanted me to write Will Farrell. So, I thanked him for being patient and waiting (he’d asked a couple of times while we were laying in bed), then I wrote Will Farrell for him, and cut it out with the rounded edges. I kept waiting for the next name or phrase or whatever, but apparently Will Farrell was all he wanted. Alrighty then.

Daughter came out to take over around 7:15. I asked her if she was sending me to battle the Quarter Lady today or tomorrow, she said she didn’t know yet. Okie dokie. I topped up my coffee and went to get Horizontal.

Ben followed after a few minutes and hung out watching his tablet. He sent me to procure food and drink for him, but it was pretty chill. Even then temperature was nice. Daughter turned the AC on at around 8:30am. The Groady To The Max heat seemed to have ended, but it’s still August and it’s still gonna be hot.

Ben was in and out of my room. He was very good about not doing the flying leap and causing bedquakes… Zeus, not so good. Time passed with only the med alarms going off, and me hollerin’ ’em out, to mark the hours. It was definitely not as hot. My room was still fairly comfortable at 1pm.

It sure did change after that! I was looking at my bank account on the mobile app and I noticed a charge for $99.74 on my credit card. I checked with Younger since it’s the credit card all three of us share. She said no way. So I locked the card so it can’t be used anymore and called the bank. They told me that since the charge was pending, I couldn’t dispute it. I had to wait until it actually posted to have it reversed. Jiminey Cricket On A Motorscooter! That seems really stoopid to me, but maybe they’ll catch it before it posts. I’m sure the bank keeps all kinds of information on how we spend our money, and where. They probably know my shoe size, or even my bra size. Needless to say, I was a teensy bit aggro and it suddenly got a whole lot hotter in my room.

2:30 rolled around and I hollered out the med alarm to Daughter. After she gave him his meds, she needed to go charge her laptop, so I was back on Couch Sittin Duty.

Daughter is still in her room, I think she fell asleep. I’ll give her a little longer… I’ve been keeping Ben awake for the last hour, or hour and a half. He got up to play with his chalk so I think he’s okay for now.

No work for Daughter tonight, no Driving Miss Daisy for me. All of that starts again tomorrow. Like Scarlett O’Hara, we’ll think about that tomorrow.

Thanks for hanging out. It was another pretty good day. Looks like I’ll be doing battle with the Quarter Lady tomorrow since Daughter didnt opt for laundry today. Will you come along to back me up… or at least to cheer me on and watch me win the battle? We’ll have a group Victory Dance after. Hasta mañana.

  1. I hate that they don’t let you dispute a charge as soon as you notice something is wrong. We know how we use our money and should be able to stop a bad charge right away! Makes me so anxious to keep checking and then start the whole “get my money back” process. Yuck! I hope it goes quickly for you!
It is cooler here as well. Some days the temp doesn’t leave the 70’s – whaaaaaat??? I know we got killed in July, but it is still August. There is still humidity, but it just doesn’t seem as bad this week. I just totally jinxed myself, didn’t I? Bummer… 🙂
Good luck in your battles tomorrow. May the quarters be yours without the hassle or shame! Hope you guys have a great day! Hugs!

    1. Thanks, Robyn. I hope the humidity doesn’t come back like it did this afternoon. The breeze died and clouds rolled in. It was only 92 but the humidity was much higher. I honestly don’t know how people live with it all summer. I couldn’t do it.

I havent looked at the bank app again yet. Its Friday (well Saturday now😉) and it may show “pending” all weekend.🙄 I hope their Fraud Department spots it and just makes it go away. Yeah… like that’s gonna happen…🙄😂😂😂
Oooh 70s sounds nice. I hope you didn’t jinx it. You guys deserve a break! 🤗🥰💖

  2. One name One time…it’s a small miracle 🥰. I’m glad it’s a tiny bit less hot. Anything helps in August. 🥵. Group Victory dance, I’m in! 🎶💃. Hasta mañana 🤗💫💖

    1. I wish it was always as easy as One name. Then I wouldn’t have much to write about… oh, wait… I injure myself frequently, I’m doing Sciencey Stuff, random weird stuff happens, and I’m at war with the Quarter Lady…😂😂😂 I’d still have plenty to write about. And Dance about💃🏼💫🌊🦄💖🌻🦋🌺

  3. First, you CAN dispute the charge on your credit card before it has fully processed. It’s your card and you control the activity. Don’t let them push you around.

Second, I am VERY excited about the potential throw-down with the Quarter Lady. I’m trembling in anticipation…

    1. The stupid charge is still “pending” because it’s the weekend.🙄 I’m hoping their Fraud Dept catches it. They’ve notified me before, so I can sorta understand why they wait until it’s on the account. But trust, they WILL reverse the charge and any/all fees associated with the charge. I don’t play. I worked for the Auto Club Of Southern California in the Emergency Road Service department for 15 years. I know complaints, problems, payments… I got this!😉

  4. Trying to get caught up on your blogs, but the dog keeps staring at me and needing something. He only eats if you sit there and watch him. He doesn’t like to go outside and pee by himself either. He is very needy. I can see why Curtis needs a break.
Rugs can be cleaned. I would make Ben help since he dropped the steak there.

I need to be picking cherry tomatoes and watering my dahlias, but it’s still yucky outside. I heard there might me more lightening until tomorrow morning. It’s a crazy world out there.

    Happy Monday Angie.

    Hugs

    1. Zeus will only eat if I’m in the kitchen with him. I figure he’ll eat if he gets hungry enough or he won’t 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m NOT gonna stand and wait for the dog to eat. 😂
He already makes me bonkers following me everywhere. He’s a good dog though. We got lucky that he’s so patient with Ben. Ben is too rough sometimes and Zeus has never bitten or snapped at him.

2020 is definitely gonna be a year we all remember for a long time! I hope we don’t have a bad fire season down here. The 2003 Cedar Fire is still very memorable. We could see the hills around our valley burning… ash falling from the sky, the air was awful.

      Stay safe!💕
