Part 193๐Ÿš ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Bath, dinner, Driving Miss Daisy and Sciencey Data Gathering all went easy. Thanks to all your good thoughts, I’m quite sure. Thank you!

Got home and put Ben in bed, took the bins down for collection tomorrow and did my Night Things. Then I nuked a couple burritos, did some WP and email, etc. I ate the burritos, texted with Older, then took my pill around 11:30pm and fell asleep a little after midnight.

The alarm woke me up at 6am. I wanted a few minutes of peace to start the day, not sure how it was gonna go. I woke Ben up gently (of course he wanted to sleep in today) by letting Zeus out first, then by talking to him. He got up around 6:20.

I did all the Sven stuff. Sven slept in his house last night, so he had to give me over-the-shoulder glares. I got his food and he was unhappy at the lack of worms again. I promised to get more. Today! By the time Ben and I left, he’d moved to the Judgey Corner.

In between getting Ben dressed and ready, getting myself ready, and making sure I had everything ready, I took pictures of the sunrise. I was in constant motion from the time I let Zeus out of Ben’s room, until we left to get Daughter.

The Parrots flew by in the distance. I’m a little, tiny bit obsessed with the Parrots. The sunrise was pretty, in a clear sky. The clear sky was pretty, but it meant it was gonna be hot today. I checked the Guessers app cuz I thought we had another day or two before we got roasted. Guess not…

I am SO ready for summer to be over. Anyway, Ben and I left to get Daughter. I had put a mask on Ben for the drive this morning and I wore mine too. I allowed us to pull them down in the car. We picked Daughter up and headed towards home. I think Ben was a little confused when I pulled into the parking lot that runs along the back of our house. We used to park there all the time before the back gate got busted. We never used the front door, just came and went through the back gate.

Anyway, we parked and I got the folding chair from the back and set it up in a parking spot with a view of the corner. The “special instructions” on his paperwork from Transportation were pick up and drop off by parking lot. We were set.

Around 7:25am I walked down to the street to see if I could see the bus. It was parked in front of the house. I waved to the driver, yelled to Daughter and showed the driver with hand motions to go to the parking lot. We had this driver before, so she was familiar with our house, and the parking lot. Ben was scanned onto the bus at exactly 7:30am PDT and we waved and told him to have fun. Watching that bus pull away almost made me tear up. Daughter and I looked at each other did a small Happy Dance in the parking lot. Then we gathered up the stuff and walked around to the front of the house and greeted Dogzilla.

I did a ginormous Happy Dance once we were inside. Zeus was happy to see us but I could tell he was confused about Ben being missing. I told Zeus that Ben was at school and I’d left the side door open, so he could see from the back gate. He still whined a little. As mean as Ben can be sometimes, they still have a bonded relationship. Zeus missed Ben.

After my dance I put the AC on and closed up the house. It was still fairly cool so the AC only cycled on for a minute every ten or fifteen, I had it set at 70ยฐF (21ยฐC). Then I got Horizontal. I went through WP and email, sent a few text messages… just relaxed. Daughter went to sleep, setting her alarm for 1:30pm. The bus is supposed to drop Ben off at 2:05pm. We’ll get notified via text when he gets scanned onto the bus.

Around 10:45am I decided to do my errands and get them overwith. That dang Sword Of Damocles seems to always be hanging there. I needed to go to the grocery store for a few things, mostly greens for Sven, and I needed to go to the pet store to get worms for Sven. He’s lucky I don’t take his grumpy glares personally. I was home within an hour and the rest of the non-Ben time was mine.

I mostly went through my WP reader and occasionally veg’d out. Ben was due to be dropped off at 2:05pm. Daughter got up at 1:30pm and was planning on going to the parking lot at 2:00pm. It was too hot to stand in the sun waiting, 91ยฐF (33ยฐC). She waited by the cracked open front door, watching the street. She figured she’d see the bus if it came early, and it did… at 1:55pm, and she did see it go by. She hurried out the door, I had to run to catch up… both of us forgetting our masks.

Ben had a pretty good day, though he didn’t want to leave his mask on. I knew that would be a problem. He was happy when he got off the bus, in a good mood. He let me take his jacket and tie off, and he even took off the long pants. He doesn’t want to wear shorts, but we don’t care if he runs around in his boxer briefs and a tshirt.

I hollered out the 2:30pm med alarm and Daughter gave Ben his meds. I had a feeling he’d konk out, and he did… right around 4pm. I had to wake him up this morning and he had a big day, plus he either gets super hyper or he gets sleepy every day around 4pm.

Daughter is going to try to wake him gently soon. If he wakes, then she’ll cook his steak and we’ll go from there. If he gets grumpy or is too difficult to wake up, we’ll let him sleep and wake him for his meds and put him to bed. We’re not going to ruin a good day with a grumpy evening. Daughter is off for the next few days, so we can be flexible.

This song, and the Disney movie it comes from, Song Of The South, is controversial because of slavery. I had a record with the songs and stories of this movie when I was a child. I’ve always loved this song and slavery is part of our American history. We can’t erase all traces of it, but we shouldn’t glorify it either. I don’t believe this song glorifies it, but if someone disagrees I’m open to discussion.

Thank you again for all the positive thoughts sent my way! It’s been a great day. We’re gonna do it again tomorrow, but without the rush and without Driving Miss Daisy. And hopefully no errands either! Come Happy Dance with me, then we’ll relax in the AC. Or, since this IS Casa Cuckoo and anything is possible, it could be a completely opposite day and full of drama. ยกHasta maรฑana!

  1. Cute song. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sounds like it was an excellent day. Hard to believe you are still having temperatures like that. You are lucky-no matter how many times I look out my window I donโ€™t see parrots or palm trees :(.

      1. Ya ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess I get what I pay for – the view out my front window is an old guy with a big belly in a sweaty undershirt smoking while he sits on his front step texting on his phone. I could take sciencey pictures but you all might unfollow me, lol. Sven is definitely better looking. Even when heโ€™s mad.

The heat is awful, but at least it’s cool at night. This is why we have fires in September and October… we get days (or weeksโ˜น) of hot dry weather with gusty wind.

  2. Glad Ben had a good day. Nice you had free time.
It is smokey here again because of the Glass Fire in Napa and Calistoga.
Stayed in and ironed, made a pizza w truffle sheepsmilk cheese , sage and pumpkin. Baked cinnamon rolls for birthday celebration breakfast tomorrow for 3 friends. We will sit outside at a restaurant. Weโ€™ve rescheduled 4 times cause of the heat or smoke.
Drama with Kenโ€™s mom in rehab center. She is losing her cognitive ability. Itโ€™s hard to see and her family isnโ€™t agreeing on how to handle it. Ugh.

Hereโ€™s hoping tomorrow goes similar to today with Ben. Iโ€™m so happy for you.

    Hugs
    Teri

    1. Boo to smoke!! It’s supposed to be 105 here tomorrow… the weather is getting wackier & wackier.
Oh no… your MIL… โ˜น Does the doctor think it’s the stress of everything or is she developing dementia? Having her in someone’s home, or someone moving in to her’s with her might help or it might makes things harder and delay the inevitable. Everyone is having mental health problems. It’s been such a hard year for so many people. I guess in a way I owe thanks to my ex… he put me through SO much worse, this year hasn’t really been that hard for me. I miss my free time, but I had time to teach Ben some new skills and I developed new interests and hobbies.

Have fun at your breakfast Teri! Forget about everything for an hour or two.

    1. This morning was a little rougher… Daughter was off last night, so she got him ready. He fights her in everything. ๐Ÿ™„ We got it done though and he came home happy.
We Zoom again tomorrow… or maybe we don’t ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, 80s would be lovely. We wont get low 80s until the end of October… maybe๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ who knows this year, right?!๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Do you get an easy Zoom every Wednesday? I hope so, I know how awful it is for you & D. Plus keeping track of the other two๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’Œ

      1. I’m sorry it was rougher. That stinks. I am planning to catch your post after this and see what happened. Our zoom day was tough! D was “in” school today from 9-3 with all of his different classes and therapies. And then at three, I had both of the other kids to get through, which we didn’t. I know I was done. Tomorrow will probably be fall out day for one of us! At least one by Friday for sure. Going to check out your post now –

        1. I’m sorry you had a yucky day. They ask way to much of Declan! Way too much! And it’s too much to ask from you as well.
Give Declan and yourself a break and cut some classes or set up something with his aide.
I’m gonna stop. You dont need me ranting about how unfair it is. It just makes me mad. For you & D, Gary & Hawklad, and Ben & us. I’m mad at the deniers and jerk that would rather party than wear their masks.

I hope tomorrow-today now- is better for you guys!

    1. We don’t even get below 65F in the wee hours. Of course my “winter” wardrobe is a thicker hoodie and ugg boots, so๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ That’s the trade off. We might have a few nights that get as low as 30F with frost on the grass and windows but the daytime temps are usually in the upper 60s or low 70s all through winter.

Too bad we can’t combine our weather and divide it evenly. We’d both be comfortable… might be too warm for your Northern blood.๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ’Œ

    1. It was crazy rushed, but it did go pretty smoothly. Daughter will be working Sunday nights all of October, so every Monday morning is going to be a little chaotic. It’s worth it for some free time!๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’•
