Part 206 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Daughter started cooking Ben’s steak early. He was eating by 5:00pm and done by 5:15pm. He went to his room and was playing with some stuff in there, so I went to brush his hair out while he was playing. Then suddenly he needed something from the living room, then back to his room. I just herded him to the bathroom after that. I’d run the water before I went to brush his hair. After many prompts, he was in the water. I washed his hair and he didn’t fight at all. It was kinda shocking.

Another shocking thing is that his hair seems to be falling out. Not huge clumps, but more than a few strands. This has been happening for a while, and at first I thought it was the tangles, but I got all the tangles out before washing it, was very careful when I washed and conditioned it, and still, hair coming out when I brushed it. Long pieces… not breaking off, falling out. His hair is super thick and it’s not like he has bald spots or it’s even noticeable, but still… something to watch.

After his hair was done and rebraided, I left him to play and started doing my Sciencey Stuff. It wasn’t even 6:00pm yet… things were going smoother than expected.

Daughter got him dressed after he was done in the tub and he sat on the couch eating poofs. She went to get ready for work and I sat in the living room with him between pictures. Then when the sun was gone, intermission, I cleaned up his chalk and covered Sven. Daughter was ready and concerned that Ben looked super sleepy so she suggested we leave around 6:15pm.

We drove her to the hospital, dropped her off and came home. I was telling Ben how great it was that he closed his window without me asking as I was getting him out of the car, when he leaned forward between the seats and started pushing buttons on the dash. He managed to push the Start button, which turned the utilities on, but didn’t start the car. He was very proud of himself and looking to see if I was gonna yell at him. I just reminded him that he’s not supposed to touch things in the car, then hurried him into the house, then into his room.

I got him into bed and covered up. Zeus was already laying down on the foot of the bed. I wished The Boys a Goodnight and closed the door. Then I texted Daughter to let her know that all was good and we were home, and I took a few more pictures before the light was gone.

Then I did the Things and the Stuff. Regular night… I didn’t wind up eating until 11:15pm-ish, I took my pill and konked out sometime after midnight.

At 4:27am I woke up to BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! Dang it! That is definitely NOT my favorite way to be woken up. I ran out to the living room, yelling for Ben to stop. I got him settled, got his stuff, my stuff and texted Daughter to let her know we were up. Then I went to look for the Moon and for Venus… clouds, clouds, and more clouds. There wouldn’t be any sunrise pictures today.

I dozed on the couch until around 6:00am. I got up to get coffee and see if there were any changes in the sky… Nope! Thick clouds still. I uncovered Sven, turned his lights on, and got him some fresh food. The worm from yesterday went on top. Poor Sven tried, but he just wasn’t fast enough… it burrowed under the greens.

I got Ben and myself ready, gave Ben his meds when the alarm told me to, and at 7:10am, when the next alarm went off, we left to go get Daughter. She was waiting for us, so she got right into the car and we headed home.

Once inside and past the Dogzilla, Daughter told me about her shift, then went to lay down. Ben started doing the chalk thang and I did some heavy Couch Sittin. I was still very tired and having trouble staying awake.

I dozed a few times, but I kept hearing crows. The crows were in my Pecan tree. I chased them off a few times, trying to get pictures. I didn’t mean to make them leave. I did tell them that if they were going to eat the pecans, they could at least leave me a feather. It would be the polite thing to do. Then I harvested some pecans that I saw down low.

A little while later I noticed the Sun was breaking through the clouds and went to look… and take pictures. I saw Diesel Cat on the fence staring up into the tree. It made me laugh. Some of the crows are as big, or bigger than he is. Some of our crows are ginormous, and Diesel is only a little over a year old. He doesn’t have a chance, but maybe his presence will keep them from taking all the pecans at once. I’d like to tempt the Parrots into coming back.

At 10:30am the med alarm told me to give Ben a seroquel, so I did. He was watching his tablet, sitting on the couch and chillin with me. We spent the day hanging out and doing Arts and Crafts and scripting. I gave him meds when the alarm told me to. I fetched things when HRH told me to. I harvested more pecans from the tree while he played in his dirt hole. It was a good late morning/early afternoon.

Daughter came out to take over Couch Sittin Duty a little after 3:00pm. I gave my report and went to go stretch out. Ben followed me. It seems he needed me to tape more wrapped Starbursts candies together like they were blocks. This child makes my head feel like it’s going to explode. I was ready for a break after nearly twelve hours of Ben Duty and he wants me to help him by taping candy together. Jiminey Cricket on a Motorscooter!

So, I huffed and puffed and taped the stupid candy together. And I wrote “20th” and “CENTURY” and “FOX” on paper and taped that on. Then I really Huffed and Puffed when I wrote “A NEWSCORPORATION COMPANY” as tiny as I could and taped that on as well. I love his creativity and imagination, I just wish he’d ask Daughter to do the Arts and Crafts once in a while.

Ben is out in the dirt hole and Daughter is getting ready to put some chicken nuggets in the toaster oven for Ben’s dinner. Before long it will be bath, Sciencey Data Gathering, and Driving Miss Daisy time. The calm before the chaos…

Looking Out My Back Door – CCR

Thanks for sharing another mellow day. I’m loving the new chill vibe that’s come with the cooler weather. Although… it seems the vibe started while it was still hot. Hmmm… I very much prefer the drama free days. The Glorious Little Yellow School Bus comes tomorrow, after what I’m sure will be a chaotic morning. We have to pick Daughter up from work and hurry back to meet the bus. But then it’s HAPPY DANCING time! Come dance with me! ยกHasta maรฑana!

  1. Gosh, that must be the worst way to be woken up. That really stinks. And I can totally relate to the “do this for me….now.” We are halfway through another set of art projects that D has no idea how to do and has no patience to wait for their completion. Ugh. Well, new weeks ahead and I am hopeful for the both of us they go smoothly with a restful night tonight. Fingers crossed!

    1. WE have to have all the patience… ๐Ÿ™„ Ben got overtired and had kind of a rough evening. He was hanging on, but Daughter wasn’t feeling well and they started butting heads… sigh! He was still awake at 9:30pm.
But school day, bus day, Happy Dance day Monday!๐Ÿš๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ If we can get through the morning without drama๐Ÿคž
And Monday is 13 days left for you!! Did I read the comment you left Gary correctly? Are all 3 kids going back or just D to start with? Is it a triple Happy Dance in 13 days?๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ’•

      1. Just D for now on the 26 the (knock on wood) for four days a week. The older two are supposed to go back in November (fingers crossed) on Mondays and Wednesdays. The high school has already had a couple of confirmed cases, so who knows. I guess the big focus is on D. I think he really needs to be in front of a real teacher if he is going to learn anything new or remember anything he has already learned.

  2. Donโ€™t you wish you could figure out what made him calm for this particular bath and hair washing and bottle it and sell it to other desperate parents? I have written Clasky Csupo on endless art projects for EJ. Do I have any idea what it means? No, not a clue but itโ€™s some YouTube logo he watches over and over again. There is a small window in the top of our front door. My job is to tear off pieces of tape for EJ to use to join random DVD inserts together which he ends up hanging like a curtain over this window. I donโ€™t ask questions. I just rip tape. Itโ€™s a special kind of divine exercise which if we pass without murmur or complaint qualifies us for a new level of sainthood. Unfortunately I canโ€™t manage it without murmur or complaint when I am sleep deprived.

    1. Yeah, I failed the Sainthood today. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I got VERY vocal when he brought the candy in. I did okay earlier when I was taping dice and straws and all kinds of stuff at angles that defy gravity, but I definitely Huffed & Puffed over the Starbursts. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Luckily he ignores me and doesn’t get upset. When Daughter gets upset, he flips and butts heads with her.
Thanks for making me laugh! I love the way you phrase things!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฅฐ

  3. Ouch, that’s a noisy, early start! My daughter always loses hair when she is under stress and Ben has had a lot of change to cope with during the lockdown, although there are many reasons for losing more hair than usual of course. Fingers crossed it’s a passing phase – there’s always something for us parents to worry about! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I was thinking it could be stress too, which makes me so sadโ˜น His hair is so thick, its almost a blessing. He doesnt want to cut it. We’ve asked, he says “long hair”๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
He has so much trouble with speech and expressing himself… Worrying about kids is a full time job!!! And it NEVER ends๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

    1. Thank you for reminding me they did more than “Bad Moon Rising”, “Born On The Bayou” and “Run Through The Jungle”… those songs get old… I like their campier, happier sound. Even “Who’ll Stop The Rain” is gentler than the others.๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’•

  4. Waking up to banging must be startling.
I hate being woken up. Our cat ๐Ÿˆ loves to meow in the hallway. He could just come in my room, jump on my bed and relax. He wants me to chase him. Little jerk.

Iโ€™m starting to hike a little more. The group i hike with invited more people, so I guess i will go. Iโ€™ve been careful around others and try to stay 6 feet away. I need the exercise. I have been more sedentary the past 6 weeks.

My hair falls out too. Not fun.

Hope you have a good night.

    1. Thanks Teri. Stay safe, but get your exercise. The crazy weather.. I can’t believe its 98 again. I need to start walking again, but knowing myself, I need a time I can go every day. Thats difficult with Ben’s schedule and Daughter’s. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ I’ll figure it out.
Everyone has too much stress this year!๐Ÿ’•
