Part 237 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

As I wrote yesterday, I started the Data Gathering early, 3:15pm to be exact and I found that standing in my side door, or standing on a chair next to my side door is still better than the south wall. I can use the south wall if it becomes absolutely necessary, and I’m glad I have some comparison pictures to help with the transition if I do have to switch.

Found one spot, in front of the standing chair, where the Sun is visible in the area I was using before. This period between Autumnal Equinox and Winter Solstice is challenging.

After Ben’s dinner, bath, and bedtime, I did the usual Things, most of the Stuff, ate the last of the soup and some candy, took my pill and konked out.

Again with the 2:30am-ish wakeup, but I burrowed down and drifted back off until Ben and Zeus caused a bedquake of epic proportions. I think they were both trying to get to me first. Ben is always gonna win, cuz Zeus is a Good Dawg, and will let Ben push him aside. Ben did the wiggle-jiggle, feet between the calves thing while I tried to find my phone. It took longer this morning. Usually it’s plugged into the charger, so I just have to follow the cord. This morning I found it between the bed and the nightstand, unplugged. It must’ve unplugged when it fell. Anyway, I retrieved it and checked the time… 4:37am. Dang it! WHY!?! Why does he sleep in on GLYSB days and get up before the Sun when there nowhere to go and nothing to do? GRRR!

He wanted me to go to the living room right away, but I told him it was too early, and too cold. Around 5:30am he became insistent. He was polite about it, saying “Gramma come living room, please.” There was light along the horizon, but I still complained as I got up. It was cold!

I got the Coffee Dragon started on it’s burbling and hissing, then went to look for Venus. She and the Moon were visible, but she was getting fainter as the light from the Sun increased. I took a few pictures and went back inside. Ben was on the couch with the blanket pulled over his head.

When the Coffee Dragon let out its final hiss, I got myself a cup and just held it for a minute, trying to thaw my fingers out. Then I had a few sips and sighed with satisfaction. Coffee is one of the small joys of life! I spent the next forty-five minutes or so going back and forth between the house and taking pictures by the gate. The sunrise wasn’t spectacular, but I was greeting my avian friends too.

My seagull friend got a visit from its friend/mate, but apparently all is still not well, since the the other gull left after a few minutes.

Ben had uncovered Sven and turned his lights on while I was outside. I thanked him for remembering Sven and told him I was planning on letting Sven sleep later since it was so cold. By then it was 6:30am, the med alarm told me, so I refilled Ben’s water bottle and gave him his meds. Then I settled into Couch Sittin Duty.

Daughter relieved me at 8:45am. I was huddled up in my hoodie – hood up, sweatpants that I’d slept in, and fuzzy socks. Ben had come out of his blanket cave and was doing the Chalk Thang. I gave my report, got more coffee, then went to get Horizontal. My bed was made, but I grabbed a throw blanket and burrowed under it.

Ben played in the living room, he hung out in my room, he told me to get dressed and go to the store for train tracks around 1pm. I looked on the shopping site that gets all of everyone’s money, found some wood train tracks, showed him, got his approval and ordered them. They’ll be arriving sometime tomorrow. He still wanted me to go to the store, but half-heartedly. He started playing with Zeus and forgot about wanting the tracks right now!

Daughter came in and handed me her phone a little before 2pm. She was doing an order from somewhere and wanted me to peruse the menu. It was Denny’s. I ordered a club sammie. Then I took the phone back to her, and noticed Mr Grumpy Beard had moved.

I got his dish, dumped the old greens and berries, saved the three worms and rinsed out the dish. Then I filled it with fresh greens (collard, curly mustard, turnip) and fresh blueberries. I put the dish back and dumped the three worms on top. I had to move Sven closer to the food, he’s been in semi-brumation for a few days, he’s moving, but slowly. Yes, of course I paparazzi’d him! He wasn’t pleased, and I don’t think he believed me when I told him that his fans miss him.

The rest of the afternoon continued as the day… mellow, calm, very nice! I’ve already begun my Science Data Gathering, but I better post this before I get caught up or sidetracked like yesterday. The Sun will set whether I’m there to watch it or not. All that’s left for tonight is the regular blah, blah, blah. If anything exciting happens, I’ll let you know tomorrow.

We Are All Made Of Stars – Moby

Thanks for hanging out with us on another mellow day. Daughter goes back to work tomorrow night, so there will definitely be a visit to the Quarter Lady. Daughter blew it off again, but she needs clean scrubs for her shift. We’ll be Driving Miss Daisy too. The Guessers say it’s supposed to be another nice day so come hang out with us. Maybe Ben’s train tracks will come early and we can play with Thomas and Friends or with the modified engine that is now a Resident Evil train… hang out in the Hive. We’ll have some laughs, whatever Adventures we pursue. ¡Hasta mañana!

  1. Sounds like a chill day – nice! I juice everyday and use a lot of collard greens for all their goodness. Man, they are strong. I have about 6 or 7 other fruits and veggies in there but collard greens make my face turn getting that juice down. I keep telling myself it is good for me. So Sven and I have the same diet (minus the worms 🙂 ). Quarter lady tomorrow, huh? It will be interesting to see where she has your relationship this week! 🙂 I’m already excited to read about what happens. I hope it goes well and that you have a great day overall!

    1. Veggies, and especially greens or lettuce wilt fast in our fridge. It’s a side by side and the seal isn’t good from Ben slamming the fridge side open to far, too many times. I used to buy the greens separately but now I get a bag that has those three together. They’re mostly cut up, but there are SOOO many stems!! Some of the stems are as big as one of my fingers. I have to pick through the whole mess daily to pull out the wilty stuff and the stems. And put new paper towels in to soak up part of the moisture. 🙄 I don’t go through that much trouble with my own food. Sven is spoiled, spoiled, spoiled! Collard greens have the highest amount of the vitamins and minerals he needs. I could use a powder supplement but he’s so dang picky!

I’m thinking about messing with the Quarter Lady and getting like $10 worth of quarters🤣🤣🤣 but I won’t 😇I’m just thinking about it😉😂

    1. Thanks, Sadje! I am determined to keep going with the project. I may have to use the apartment building roof and get the pictures way before actual sunset, but the point was to show how the Sun appears to move south from Summer to Winter. It’s really the Earth moving, but I still want to finish what I started. I’ve been doing it seriously since right after Vernal (Spring) Equinox. I never paid attention to where it sets before now. It’s fun, exciting and interesting to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 I get a little carried away 🤣🤣🤣
I hope your Thursday has started peacefully and is great all day!🤗🥰💕💫

  2. I wonder what’s up with the seagulls. They’re sciencey too. 😊. It’s amazing how the sun is moving. I hope you don’t have too much trouble keeping watch on it. Sven should have his own trading cards! Hugs! 🐉🐶☕️🍫🌼🌸🌺🍁🍂🎶💫✨🤗❤️

    1. Younger thinks I should start an Instagram account for Sven. I guess her Beardie, Drakeo has one and so does the dog, Gigi🙄🤦🏼‍♀️😂😂 I think I’ll pass on that🤣🤣 I don’t want more social media. WP is enough.
I’m surprised to see the other seagull. They aren’t common in my area. I know they’re scavengers, like crows, and they hang out at the landfill. But even that is several miles northwest, and the ocean is 17 miles away. Not too far in a car, and the Parrots fly it🤷🏼‍♀️ they roost mostly near the coast, and they seem to stay in pairs too. I’ll have to do some seagull research. They make me think of LOTR, and the elves sailing across the sea, into the west…🧝‍♀️🧝‍♂️⛵🧭🌅🤗🥰💕💖🦋✨

    1. I better the Quarter Lady would be surprised to find out there are people all over the world who know about her, and how she called me a liar. And most of the people probably secretly hope we’ll go all Jerry Springer, right there next to the dryers🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  3. I love me some Moby. There are a few of his songs that I don’t quite connect with, but there are many more that create a wonderful tone and atmosphere. Two of my faves are “Why Does My Heart (Feel So Bad)” and “Porcelain”. Yours?

    1. I haven’t really explored Moby. I know this song, the one he did with Gwen Stefani west/east/north/south? Side, and a couple others that I don’t know the names of. With your recommendations, I may have to delve a little deeper.🎶💃🏼
