Part 254 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Sunset was rather Meh… I do like the way the setting sun hits the mountain in the northeast.

Ben ate his “orange chicken” and at 5:30pm I ran his bath. He’s been playing longer recently, so we wanted to leave time. It took a LOT of prompts to get him in the tub, then after he was out, to get him dressed. He was fixated on a DC logo he was trying to create and was ignoring me. Very frustrating when we’re on a schedule. We give him plenty of warnings, set timers… he was just fixated.

Younger stopped by to pick up a package that came for Partner, and more leftovers. I guess Partner, who is NOT vegetarian, was very happy to have turkey. I was happy to see more of the food go, we had way too much.

We took Daughter to work, came back home and I got The Boys tucked in, and texted Daughter to let her know we were home. Then the usual Things, Stuff, email, WP, food, pills and Konk sometime in the neighborhood of midnight.

I slept a little better last night. I’d put another blanket on my bed yesterday, so I was warmer. I’m sure that helped. I woke up at 5am and I was awake. I stayed burrowed under the blankets until 5:30am then got up, woke the Coffee Dragon, made my pit stop and went to look for Venus. It’s was very cold outside, and still dark, so I went back in to get coffee.

Zeus heard me moving and wanted out of Ben’s room to be with me. I let him out, and as always when he wants out early, I made him go straight outside. Ben got up shortly after that, around 6am. I got Ben settled under a blanket tent with cereal, water bottle and tablet. Then I texted Daughter to let her know we were up.

For the next hour I went back and forth between the house and the back gate, looking at the sky, taking pictures and talking to the birds. Georgie and Gracie did a high, slow fly-by, then continued east without landing. A talkative crow was on the power pole, no way of knowing if it’s the same crow every morning, but there’s usually one who Squawks Up The Sun.

We went out to the car a few minutes earlier this morning cuz I knew we’d have to thaw the frost on the windshield. The dashboard readout showed 37°F (3°C)… colder than yesterday. We got Daughter, came home, then spent five minutes trying to get Ben to quit pushing buttons on the dash and get out of the car so we could go inside. We had to go through the entire “head-hitting, falling, helping up, thermometer, All Better” after we got inside. Daughter went to her room, The Boys and I settled on the couch. Couch Sittin Duty began.

Ben, Zeus and I hung out on the couch, just chillin until a little after 10am. Ben jumped up and ran outside, answering an urgent call that only he could hear. Soon after, I heard the tell-tale sounds that meant he was in the dirt hole. I got up and checked to make sure, cuz my hearing is bad and he’s a sneaky little somebody. All was well, so I started straightening up with the intention of getting Horizontal while he was outside.

At 10:30 I took his med and water bottle out to him, Doped His Face, then brought the water bottle back in. I grabbed my stuff and headed to my room. Horizontal Time… WOOT WOOT! It lasted about twenty minutes. He came running in as fast as he’d run out. “Gramma come living room.” Yeah, yeah… Gramma go back to dag-nabbit Couch Sittin Duty.

Ben played with his chalk or watched his tablet, or got the steps out so he could be The Conductor from Fantasia… just playing. I goofed around on my phone, texting, going through email, played a game for a few minutes, WP comments and Reader… more relaxing.

At 3pm I went and woke Daughter up. She’s usually awake by 2pm unless otherwise arranged, and I was tired of Couch Sittin Duty. I have to remind myself NOT to feel guilty for waking her up. We are home by 7:45am after picking her up. She spends the entire time alone in her room, if she chooses to watch shows or movies rather than sleep, that’s her choice. Working three twelve hour shifts is her choice. Working the overnight shift is her choice. These are all things she wanted. I just go along with what she wants, as far as her job goes. Driving her to and from work wasn’t supposed to be part of the deal, but I make it work. I have to remind myself NOT to feel guilty for waking her up an hour after she usually gets up. I went to stretch out on my bed before I took my Science pictures and walked to the market for another big Monster and more wine… reminding myself NOT to feel guilty.

Ben asked for new chalk when I got back from the market. I gave him the last box I had. More is on the way. Daughter is cooking his half pizza, he said he was hungry now. Tonight’s routine and time schedule should be the same as last night’s… without the fixated ignoring, hopefully.

Heard this on the radio… I really like Muse and they were excellent when I saw them back in 2016.

Knights Of Cydonia – Muse

This is our last night of Driving Miss Daisy for a few days. We still need to go get her in the morning but thank goodness she has GLYSB eve off. But I’m getting ahead of myself… tomorrow should be much like today. However, this IS Casa Cuckoo, and anything could happen. You’re always welcome to hang out with us, share our Adventures, even when they’re not very adventurous. ¡Hasta mañana!

  1. Happy you put an extra blanket on the bed. Cozy is better for sleeping. My grandmother was born in Chicago. She used to make a really cozy bed in the wintertime. She knew how to bundle things up against a chill. Hope it’s a beautiful evening for you and all goes well. Say hi to Venus for me. Lots of clouds and maybe some rain here. Hugs 🤗🎶❄️🌧🌷🌻💞

    1. I like my room to be cold, but it’s been frosty cold the past couple nights. A bit too cold.
You’ve got rain and I’ve got 10% humidity. I’ve been shocking myself all day with static electricity. I wouldn’t mind a bit more humidity. It can rain overnight, but I wanna see the Sun, at least part of the time, during the day.
🙄🤦🏼‍♀️I’m not picky or anything, huh?!😆😂😂😂
I will send Venus your greetings, I’m sure I’ll see her Sunday morning.🌠✨🤗🥰💕🦋🌻

  2. Very nice pictures Angie. A nice day for you guys. You shouldn’t feel guilty at all, in fact you’re doing way more than an average parent would do. Hope it’s a relaxed evening tonight. Take care my friend

  3. Sounds like a pretty chill day – awesome! I am glad you slept better too. That always seems to help things too. Here is hoping for another day like yesterday! Hope it is a good one for you guys!

  4. You should have NO guilt when it comes to expecting Daughter to do what she should be doing. Life is messy, and we should all help each other out when we can, but everyone should own the situations they’ve created and act accordingly…

    1. I talked to her about it this morning. She agreed that all those things were her choices and she had to suck it up and be tired somethimes… then she slept an hour over when she said she’d get up… and she’s off work tonight.🤷🏼‍♀️
