Part 265 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

The Altocumulus clouds are so cool, and make sunset pretty.

Ben had a pretty good evening. He was playing with his chalk and didn’t want to stop to eat. Daughter was tired and wanted to go to bed early and Ben was lagging. It all worked out eventually… he ate all of his steak, he had his bath and he and Dogzilla went to bedtime.

Daughter went to her room and was asleep by 8pm. I did the usual and was planning on taking my meds early when I remembered that Daughter had scheduled a delivery of groceries. DANG! Around 8:45 I went and turned on the porchlight since our house is sometimes hard to find, and looked outside, saw nothing, and went back to the email I was writing. Then I checked again about an hour later and there were two bags sitting there. A jar of pickles and some Blue Ramen… NOT the “orange chicken” which was the reason for the delivery. Not any of the other frozen food Daughter ordered to meet the minimum dollar amount, just the Blue Ramen and a jar of pickles. I couldn’t even check on the order since Daughter had made it, she had all the details. What a waste of someone’s time… and we still didn’t have “orange chicken”.

I konked out around 10:15pm in the middle of writing a comment on a post. I hadn’t taken my meds. I woke up around 1:30am and decided to skip the sleeping pill… I was pretty tired, didn’t think I needed it. I sent the comment and went back to sleep.

And woke up at 2:30am. That was definitely too late to take the pill since I had a WallyWorld pickup scheduled for 8am. I wasn’t able to go back to sleep… of course, cuz Murphy likes his games, and cuz Sophie Cat decided she needed love and was very forceful about demanding it.

I did some interwebs browsing, and found Ben’s “orange chicken” through InstaCart. I placed an order that was accepted with delivery sometime on Wednesday. I prayed to who or what ever deity watches over autistic kids and their eating habits that the “orange chicken” would be delivered and I could cross that worry off my list.

Daughter got up around 5:30am and I told her about the failed delivery. She checked the status of the order and they showed that they’d delivered more stuff and they were charging her over $40… for eight packages of Blue Ramen and a jar of pickles! The service she used didn’t have a claim area or whatever, so she sent an email to let them know that we didn’t get our stuff, and the driver just left the two bags… I was supposed to have to meet them. UGH!

The eastern sky was starting to lighten a little, so just before 6am I went to look for Venus. The sky was really pretty but it was mostly dark still, the pictures I took didn’t do justice. I went back inside and got coffee. The sky changed SOOO much over the next hour. I took a bazillion pictures!

Then Georgie and Gracie showed up and seemed to be having a disagreement. Gracie landed first and she was yelling… oh my goodness! I don’t understand Gull but I could tell she wasn’t happy. Georgie landed, chilled for a minute, then he went to the other corner of the building. Then a grey gull showed up. I don’t know if was a juvenile or a different breed of seagull, but I said hello, and it circled me, really close like five or six times, while I was talking to it. Then it landed in the middle of the building. Gracie wasn’t having any of that! She flew over and chased the grey gull away. Georgie kinda puffed up and hunkered down a bit. Yikes! Gracie stayed in the middle of the building and the grey gull left. I went back inside the house after that.

Ben had gotten up around 6:45am and got in bed with Daughter. They moved to the living room around 7:15am. After leaving Georgie and Gracie, I got more coffee and started editing all the pictures. I worked on those until I got notification that my WallyWorld order was ready. I had to tell them not to substitute colored goldfishes for the regular ones, plus they didnt have his gummy snacks or the ham. DANG IT!! Again… that was the reason to do the WallyWorld thing… the dang ham. I told Daughter about the ham and she decided that she was tired of the food issues, she ordered a Honey Baked Ham to be delivered on the sixteenth. She wants ham for Christmas and she’s willing to pay for it. We never get a Honey Baked Ham because they’re expensive. They are super yummy though!

I changed and masked up and went to get the WallyWorld stuff. I got a notification that my InstaCart order was being delivered. It didn’t show any problems so I was hoping we would have Ben’s “orange chicken”. I got the WallyWorld stuff, went home and there were two bags by the door. Hurray!! Four big boxes of “orange chicken”! I carried those bags in with the WallyWorld stuff. Ben is set, we have a ham ordered… I just need to get gummy snacks and goldfishes. The goldfish wont be a problem, hopefully the gummy snacks will be back in stock soon. Of course he only likes one brand, and of course my regular store doesn’t stock them anymore. We still have some, so there’s a little time.

After the stuff was put away, I got Horizontal. Ben and Dogzilla followed me. They started playing which was nice, but the bedquakes were not so nice. I was starting to get a little motion sick from all the shaking. Finally I told Ben to stop shaking the dang bed. He decided to go back to the living room. Fine with me. It was only 9:15am and I was exhausted.

The med alarms went off, I told Daughter. Ben played in the living room, or hung out in my room, or played outside. We did laundry and I took the clothes over, but no Quarter Lady. Another anti-climactic laundromat excursion. We just puttered around doing little jobs, talking, hanging out with Ben… a mellow family day.

Daughter got an email back about the missing grocery delivery items. They offered to resend them by 10pm on Thurday. She told them “No, that doesn’t work for me. Please refund my money.” I mean, we would use the food, but we don’t need it. She was adding stuff to get the minimum for delivery, and they didn’t even deliver what we needed.

I took my Sciencey pictures around 3:30pm. The Winter Solstice is less than two weeks away. My project will be completed. The Sun will reach the southernmost setting point and appear to move north again. I don’t know what I’m going to do to keep my Sciencey Person Creds after that. I better think up something quick. Tempus Fugit!

The Sun is setting behind the western hills. The sky is full of Altocumulus clouds again. I’ll be watching to see if Mother Nature puts on a show. We have nothing going on this evening, just getting Ben fed, bathed and tucked… then probably crashing early.

I heard this on the radio in the car today. Some songs you just have to crank up and sing along… even when your voice is as bad as mine.

Aerials – System Of A Down

Thanks for getting up at 2:30am with me. Insomnia sucks! No doubt about that. It was a good day, but it felt like a long day. And with all that awake time, why did I still not get everything done? I went a little cuckoo on the pictures… at least I don’t publish every picture I take. I’m looking forward to that camera at Christmas. My phone camera is really acting up. The focus isn’t working right and it freezes. The phone is just about maxed on memory, even with an SD Card in it. 16GB isn’t enough I guess. A new phone will have to wait though. Gotta pay off Christmas first. Tomorrow will be a Driving Miss Daisy night, but a hanging out, do nothing day. Stay in your jammies and come hang out with us. I got three new kinds of creamer today and the Coffee Dragon will be ready. ¡Hasta mañana!

  1. You had some gull action today! Georgie and Gracie are all over it though. That sky! WOW!!! I can see why you would take a bazillion pictures! It was gorgeous. ❤️🧡💛
I’m glad all your food and deliveries are worked out. That’s terrific! I’m totally up for a jammy day. See ya in the morning 🥰🦋🌼🌿☕️

    1. Yeah… that grey gull was SOOO close… like 8′ away but flying super fast… circling me. I swear it was checking me out. And Georgie & Gracie seemed to be having relationship issues😂😂😂 I always hear crows, but the gulls don’t usually talk. Gracie was seriously yelling today. Whatever she was saying, she meant it!😂

Sunrise has been worth waking up early for! Amazing what Mother Nature can do with her paintbrush. Or the Roman Goddess Aurora😘🌈✨🌞💕💫🦋

  2. Those are beautiful photos of the sky! So nice to see at night and in the morning – for me too! 🙂

What a frustrating food delivery. That stinks that more than half was missing. I am glad they answered. I feel like sometimes I am waiting for days for someone to get back to me and the injustice irks my insides like little else can. I need to take a chill pill 🙂

Holy frijoles, I hope you get some sleep tonight! That must be so hard to deal with and then have to function. I have days where I wake up in the 3-4 AM range and I will toss and turn, but my eyes are relatively closed. I hope you find some peaceful rest!

Here’s hoping for a great night, filled with sleep for everyone and a great day ahead!

    1. I cant help it with the pictures. I always tell myself to not take so many, not post so many… but the sky is just WOW! everywhere I look.

I haven’t had a sleepless night like that in a while. Most of my super early wake ups are Ben assisted now. But that’s why I take sleeping pills. I have trouble falling AND staying asleep. If I dont take my pill, I toss or I don’t sleep at all.🤷🏼‍♀️ Unfortunately, I’m used to it after decades.
Yeah, the food hunt reminded me of March. It’s such a pain when the items that MUST be had are hard to find. And Ben is eating, eating, eating… I think he’s gonna grow again. He ate 20 chicken nuggets tonight. The TGIFriday’s nuggets are pretty good sized too.

I hope your Thursday is quiet

  3. These pictures are amazing Angie. Yes, insomnia sucks and you should take your pills regularly for you need your sleep. I think you will probably have to give up on the laundromat lady. She had lost her fighting spirit! 😂
    Hope tonight is better. Hugs.

    1. Thanks, Sadje!🤗🥰 Yeah, the Quarter Lady has been absent or dismissive every time I’ve been back. I guess she got over whatever her issue was.
You’re right about the meds. I’m thinking that I need to establish a “bedtime” for myself and stick to it. If I don’t get everything done, I don’t. Email and WP are always behind for me lately and I’m stressing myself out about it. I think after Solstice when the Science Project is over, I will reduce my Adventures to every other day or something. I don’t know… 🤷🏼‍♀️ I need to get a better handle on things. That I do know.😘💕

      1. I have fixed 10:00 pm as my bed time and it helps with my insomnia to have a fixed routine. Besides, Ben goes to bed early so he gets up
Early. I catch up with my WP in the morning.

    1. Yep! I went out one day and we’d had like 3 or 4 deliveries. Instead of putting them in the same place, they were each in separate spots. Why?
I understood in March when lockdown was sudden, but seriously? These companies should have their acts together by now.

  4. While I do appreciate the fact that so many businesses are amping up their delivery and curbside-pickup (and I also think this is a major wave of the future), it annoys the hell out of me that they can’t get things right. Surely they can figure out a way to prevent products from being “available” when you place your order if they aren’t going to be available when they PROCESS your order. How hard can this be?

Maybe I’m just expecting too much. It wouldn’t be the first time… 😉

    1. Yep. With everything on computers, when an item is purchased in the store, it should remove it from the “available” stock. There must be a way for them to cap the online availability when the store gets low enough. It was WallyWorld though, sooo…
