Part 266 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

Sunset was pretty in a gentle, soothing way. It fit the evening’s mellow groove of Casa Cuckoo perfectly.

Daughter made “orange chicken” for Ben’s dinner. TGIFriday’s Boneless Chicken Bites is what Ben calls “orange chicken” because the breading is an orangish color. Anyway, Daughter made twenty, and they’re good sized nuggets, and Ben ate them all. Ugh! He just turned twelve and already the teen appetite is kicking in. Having my nephews living with me for several months, plus all the friends both daughters brought home gave me some experience with the appetites of teen boys. Daughter and I were wondering how we were going to be able to afford to keep Ben fed. I told Daughter that she’d have to eat less. We’d discussed her love of food earlier, so she made a sadface at that option. She told Zeus we’d just have to sell him for taco meat. He wagged his tail… Big Dummy! All of this was said in jest, obviously. We’re a bit twisted in our humor here at the Casa.

Med, bath and bedtime followed with minimal issues. I would’ve been worried if it all went smoothly. Daughter went to her room and was asleep by 9pm.

I did all the Things and Stuff, nuked a frozen bowl thingy, ate my food, took my pills and konked sometime after 10pm, in the middle of responding to a comment. (Sorry Robyn)

I woke around 12:15am (I think, maybe…) and sent the comment (I hope it made sense) and reminded myself to never, ever, EVER type anything after taking my meds and/or eating. Then konked back out until 2:30am-ish. I woke again around 5am (should I look at the sky? Meh…), 6:30am (med alarm… quiet… should I look at the sky? Meh…) and at 7:15am when Ben and Zeus woke the house.

Ben commanded “Gramma come living room!” so I dragged myself out of bed, grabbed my stuff and stumbled into his room to get his stuff, refilled his water bottle, gave him meds and headed to my friend, the Coffee Dragon.

Daughter had gotten up and went straight to the baño, so I was reaching Potty Emergency status by the time she exited. She had moved her stuff to the living room while I was answering the Call, so I grabbed my coffee, said Hello to Georgie and Gracie through the kitchen window, had a short debate with myself about going outside, kept with the Meh theme, and got Horizontal again.

The morning went by so fast. Ben was back and forth between my room and the living room until Daughter discovered Lord Of The Rings was available on one of the streaming services. Ben likes LOTR so he watched with her. I worked my way through email and WP, with many, many, MANY interruptions.

Just before 2pm Daughter said she wanted to go lay down for a bit. I told her no problem, I expected her to have a nap before work. I asked what time she was planning to get up, and she said 4pm. I asked if that was really what time she was gonna get up or would she decide then? She said “I better get up at 4pm!” I told her I was just asking, that whatever time was fine, just asking…

I got my stuff and headed to the living room for Couch Sittin Duty. Ben was under a blanket tent, watching his tablet. I wasn’t sure he even noticed that she left, and I took over.

Ben continued watching his tablet for an hour or so, then got up to do the chalk thang. I worked my way through my Reader and finally caught up, hoping I didn’t miss any posts. I took my Sciencey pictures when the alarm told me to, and sent a WAY overdue email. Go me!

At 4pm Daughter texted me with “30 more minutes”… I texted back “K”. I was NOT surprised. The sun is setting and the sky looks like it might go completely overcast. My Sciencey pictures may be the only ones taken today. Wouldn’t that be a change?

Thanks for spending a lazy day with us. Can you believe I didnt go watch sunrise or talk to Georgie and Gracie? Can you believe I actually slept? Crazy, right?! This IS Casa Cuckoo and you just never know… Tomorrow’s agenda will be picking Daughter up, a whole lotta Couch Sittin Duty and probably some fetchin’ and totin’ for HRH. I’m sure we’ll find some other Adventures to keep ourselves smiling. We always do. I hope you’re smiling too. Join us! ¡Hasta mañana!
