Part 267 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

The sky was completely overcast at sundown. Sometimes you get awe inspiring… sometimes you get blah

Daughter got up at 4:30pm and I went back to Horizontal Time. She’d made “white chicken” for Ben around 1pm and he’d eaten it all, five tenderloins worth. Plus he’d eaten almost a third of a small box of Apple Jacks around 8am. When she got up, she made half a pizza for him, and he immediately ate two of the four pieces. His appetite is in overdrive, but he’s not gaining weight, not that we can see by how his clothes fit. Must be getting ready to grow.

Anyway, he had his meds and bath and with many prompts by us, and “It’s fine.” by him, we got him ready to Drive Miss Daisy. Lots of people have lots of lights up, so the drive is nice. We got Daughter to the hospital on time and went back home. I tucked The Boys in, then texted Daughter that we were home.

Stuff, Things, all the usual… Daughter made soup in the afternoon so I heated some up, then forgot about it while it was cooling. I’d been doing email and WP stuff and only remembered the soup at 9:15pm. So I warmed it back up and nom nom’d. I was smart and didn’t overeat or lay down this time, so no tummy ache. I can be smart sometimes. I took my pills around 10:15pm, but didn’t fall asleep until almost midnight. Try again tonight I guess.

I woke almost every hour. Just one of those nights. Ben got up at 4:30am and got under the blankets with me for a short “cuddle”. Then he was up, running to the living room, commanding me to join him. At 4:51am I texted Daughter that we were up.

I went out to see if I could see Venus. She and the Moon were both visible. It was nice to see clear skies. I took a few pictures of Venus, the Moon, the sunrise, and Georgie and Gracie when they stopped by.

Ben had found, and opened, a delivery box that was by the door while I was in the baรฑo. He was already doing his chalk thang when I came out. I told him he shouldn’t open boxes unless he asks first. He started to ask, and I stopped him to tell him to ask BEFORE he opens it. I’d planned on giving it to him when he asked for chalk, but that wasn’t the point. He needs to learn that he can’t just take whatever he wants. We’ve been trying to get that into his head for YEARS!

We picked Daughter up, drove home and Ben went back to doing his chalk thang. Daughter went to her room, swore she’d be up at 2pm, and I did Couch Sittin Duty.

Ben mostly played with his chalk while I worked my way through my WP Reader and the morning passed into the afternoon with the med alarms marking the time. Ben or I occasionally went outside, him to the dirt hole, me to look at the sky. He went out around 1:15pm and was being quiet. I thought about going to my room to stretch out and charge my phone, and while I was thinking, I dozed off.

Daughter came out with her stuff around 1:50pm, and told me to go lay down. Ben came running in from outside at the same time yelling something about his hat. Daughter asked him if his hat went over the fence, and he said “Yes, it did.” She told him he shouldn’t have been climbing up and banging, trying to break the wall.

I was muddled and logey but I gathered that I must’ve dozed pretty hard cuz I didn’t hear him beating on the cinderblock wall, but it had woken Daughter up before her 2pm, planned time. She took over Couch Sittin and I put on my mask and walked around to the parking lot for the apartments, looking for Ben’s hat. I found it, and on my way back I found a small white and grey feather. I’d found an itty bitty, teeny weeny, fluffy white feather in the yard earlier. I collect feather, shells, interesting stones… stuff.

Anyway, I gave Ben the hat and went to my room to get Horizontal. Ben followed me telling me to get dressed and go to the store for a new police car. I told him he already got new chalk today, plus a Christmas Elf costume, and he had about a bazillion police cars. I told him to ask Santa for a new police car. He went back to the living room to watch Return Of The King with Daughter.

Daughter sent me to the corner market for some chips. Regular plain Lays. I got Ben the small bag of Honey BBQ Frito Twists. When I brought them home Ben took the Lays. Of course he did. He did give the Fritos to Daughter, which I guess lightens the sting of having your chips snagged. His “orange chicken” was done. Daughter was hoping to get her Lays back from the Little Bootyhead.

Just about time for sundown. Daughter and I agreed that we should move his bath time up to 5pm or 5:15pm. Getting him out of the bathtub on work nights is a hassle. An hour should be more than enough time to play.

I heard this on the radio after dropping Daughter at work last night. It’s been with me since. Catchy, fun song.

Ho Hey – The Lumineers

Looks like we’re settled into a groove of mellow days. Totally works for me. Ben is still Ben, so I don’t have to worry about the mellow getting boring or tedious. We went on a Mission to rescue and recover his hat, AND found a treasure. That’s exciting, right?! Tomorrow’s agenda looks exactly like today’s… a whole lotta Couch Sittin Duty. But ya just never know what might happen. Something always happens. ยกHasta maรฑana!

    1. Before Ben, when I was still with my ex, I had a little “shrine” type area, wood cubes stacked. I had all sorts of bits and stuff. Some cobalt glass, some candles, feathers, stones, little figurines… Stuff.๐Ÿ˜‚
The ex broke most of my glass, and when we had move I packed everything away. It’s still packed away in my closet. Maybe someday…๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
I’m glad I’m not the only “weirdo” collecting feathers๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฆ‹๐ŸŒˆโœจ

  2. The box battle is on for us right now too – there are boxes coming in for all sorts of family and kids. When D gets to them first he has to open them, like it is a regular delivery of cat food on any other day. The box battle lines have been drawn. He is all, “My precious!!” and I am like, “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!” (Got to get my LOTR quip in ๐Ÿ™‚ ). Overall, the December box battle is a thing. Fingers crossed I can keep his presents from him until Christmas!

    1. You made me giggle with your LOTR lines๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Usually we leave the packages until he’s in bed, or one of us sneaks out and puts them in the side yard UNTIL he’s asleep.
I’d brought the box in last week and left it out. There are deliveries for Younger sometimes too. The box sat there for days, ignored…๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ there is so much stuff in my closet right now, it’s going to be a surprise to ME when we pull everything out to wrap on Christmas Eve. Can’t do it before because Ben will unwrap everything ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
Hopefully we’ll both survive the Battle Of The Boxes!๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’•

    1. It’s a great, catchy tune! ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ Zeus and Ben are both awful. Every single time I come in the house with a box or bags from the store, they both mob me. Zeus with his face in the bag, and Ben trying to look through each of them, and I’m just trying to get into the house to set them down๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ.
I keep telling Ben that Santa is watching, he better stay on the “nice” list. He’s only been getting into the whole Christmas/Santa thing for a few years. He was kind of oblivious when he was younger.๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ’Œ

  3. A good day except for your sleep not being enough. Yay for finding a feather ๐Ÿชถ. A bit of tweaking the time line can make things easy for you. Hope you have a great night and tomorrow. Hugs.

    1. Thanks, Sadje! I was SOOO tired and SOOO ready to take my meds at 10pm. The the police were in the parking lot and a helicopter was circling overhead… no idea what it was about, but circumstances intervened. I guess I’ll try again Saturday night๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚
I hope you’ve had a good day! Enjoy your evening ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’•

  4. So, have you ever eaten Frito Pie? This concoction might go by different names in other parts of the country, but it’s basically regular Fritos with chili poured over them, topped by cheese and onions. (I also add a healthy dollop of sour cream to cut the heat of the chili, Partner does not.) Reason I’m asking: You mentioned Honey BBQ Frito Twists, and we once tried using those in our Frito Pie and it was DELISH. The tangy sweet of the twists works well with the chili, especially if it’s a spicy one. (And Partner loves him some spicy.)

By the way, love that Lumineers song. (I even did a snarky review of the video back in the day, buried in the archives.)

    1. Never had Frito pie, but dang… how easy!

We do a “taco salad” with Fritos which is plate, refried beans, Fritos, taco meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes (whatever else) then pour a ladle full or less of warmed up V8 juice with taco seasoning in it, over the whole mess, then a huge dollop of sour cream (or not, if you’re crazy๐Ÿ˜‰) that’s MY Fritos dish, now I wanna try it with the twists. You gotta mash the Fritos a little anyway, shouldn’t be harder to mash the twisty ones.๐Ÿค”

      Look at us… exchanging recipes๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’Œ

  5. I like The Lumineers. Another chill day is good. My dog is scared of boxes so he’s not enjoying the seasonal deliveries. Not sure what he’ll think of Christmas!

  6. Georgie and Gracie – looking good – l now have a cheeky resident seagul who visits every time l refresh the peanuts – she/he swoops in and stands there like the elephant in the room gorging ๐Ÿ™‚

    Great song choice.

    1. Georgie and Gracie are dumpster divers. I doubt anyone around here puts out food for bigger birds. Lots of crows and the Parrots when they’re around. The feeder would be empty in seconds.

I don’t see many of the smaller birds, which makes me happy and sad. Sad because I like ALL the birds, but happy that they aren’t in danger from my cats. We’ve put probably a dozen belled collars on Diesel, he’s 1 yr old and thinks he’s a panther, and he’s lost them all. ALL! They are safety collars that pop off if they get hung up, but it’s getting expensive to keep him belled, and identified.๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’Œ

      1. I don’t deliberately feed the bigger birds haha – they just have a way of finding things quicker than smaller birds ๐Ÿ™‚

I can imagine with the bells, there should be a defined method other than the current one. Like a GPS on eacj collar so a Smart phone can locate them when lost ๐Ÿ™‚
