Part 268 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Ben ate “orange chicken” and watched Return Of The King with Daughter on her laptop while I took pictures of sunset…

I ran Ben’s bath at 5pm. He got in, got clean, played and was out by 5:45pm. He was ready for bed. Because he was tired, but also because Daughter had ordered him new bedding and it was delivered that day, and waiting on his bed.

We did the Driving Miss Daisy thing, came home and I tucked The Boys into bed, then texted Daughter… rinse, repeat.

The rest of the evening was going good. I was set to go to bed early. I’d done the Things and Stuff, I’d made food and eaten it, I took my pills at 10pm and stayed away from comments or email. Then I heard a helicopter circling. Then I saw flashing lights outside my window. Seriously?!

Yep! Two police cars blocking the street/alley and parking lot. I didn’t see anyone in cuffs, but maybe that’s what the helicopter was for. I never found out what it was about. I finally went to sleep around 11:30pm.

And got Bounced, bedquakes and all, at 4am. DANG! He wanted me to go to the living room then, but I was NOT getting up! He got under the blankets for a couple minutes, but then he started wrasling with Zeus. They were both hyped up, and I was trying to ignore them. They continued their bedquaking, blanket stealing, noisy games until I’d had enough and got up. It was 4:47am.

Ben continued to be hyper and noisy. He did settle enough to do the chalk thang, but he scripted Angry Words and got up to pace every so often. I was watching the clock, waiting for 6:30am med time.

I gave him the meds and went to look at the sky. It was cloudy and blah earlier when I’d gone out, but it changes fast. Change, it did…

We picked Daughter up from work on time. She told me they had a mini meeting at work, and the area she usually works will probably be full of COVID patients when she goes back after her days off. It’s not the whole unit, just a few rooms… for now. We knew it was coming, so it’s not a surprise. She’s very careful, and will be extra cautious if she winds up working with COVID patients. Anyway, we got home, she went to her room to watch her shows and sleep. Ben went back to his chalk, and I resumed Couch Sittin Duty.

I was working on my Reader and comments, and trying to add the sunrise pictures to this post, when I had to do the thing I’ve been putting off. I had to upgrade from Freeloader to the cheapest paid WP Plan… Personal. I was out of room in my Media file. I couldn’t upload any more pictures. That was completely unacceptable! The good news is there won’t be ads on my site anymore.

I was texting with a friend around 9:30am when I glanced up and saw a familiar sight. One I was very happy to see…

Sven woke up! He’d eaten some of the dried out greens that had been in there a couple days. I apologized for not seeing him go to the dish, but I wasn’t going to put fresh greens down every day while he was brumating. I immediately got him fresh greens and blueberries, and also added three new worms to the three worms that had been living in his food dish. Sven had a bit of fresh greens, then went to bask under the lights. I don’t know if he’ll stay awake, but it’s nice to see him up and yellow. It’s no coincidence that I got a Magic Star from Rory today too. His stars really are magic.

I spent the rest of the morning and into the afternoon Couch Sittin and working my way through my comments and Reader on WP. Ben did the chalk thang (which lately hasn’t been his creations, it’s been more about shaving the chalk into dust… sigh), or played in the dirt hole, or sat with me and watched his tablet.

Around 1:30pm Daughter got up. I had just come back inside from hanging a load of clothes and a couple of throw blankets (the blanket that covers the Couch Sittin spot got drenched by an entire cup of coffee when I bumped it over… oops! I’m just glad it didn’t go the other way and shatter on the tile floor, spreading shards of ceramic and splashes of coffee everywhere.) up outside to dry. I asked her why she was up early. She said she woke up, and she’d set her alarm for 1:30pm. Alrighty then. I wasn’t complaining. I was more than ready to get Horizontal.

Daughter is cooking steak for Ben’s dinner. After he eats it will be the usual Work Night routine. This is her last night until Wednesday night. It’s approaching sunset time too. I wasn’t able to get Sciencey photos cuz of clouds. It doesn’t look like they’ve thinned out any. There may not be a sunset to watch tonight. I do realize how spoiled and lucky I am to be able to see a clear sky most nights, and the beautiful colors of sunset. I’ll try not to complain about the nights that are cloudy… I’ll try.

I started singing this after I saw Sven was awake, in honor of the Magic Rory Star.

It’s Magic – Pilot

Thanks for sharing our Adventures today! I keep trying to go to bed early and the universe, or Mr Murphy, is conspiring against me. We’ll try again tonight. On the agenda tomorrow, which is GLYSB Eve, is picking Daughter up from work, and Couch Sittin Duty while she sleeps. Daughter is off tomorrow night, and after she wakes up we’re supposed to go get our Christmas Tree. That’s always an Adventure! Younger and possibly Partner may go with us. The more the merrier… I hope you’ll join us too. ¡Hasta mañana!

  1. Sven!! So good to see him again doing his thing! Sven always cracks me up. I like the straight on shot of him with his leafy green in his mouth 🙂

I love new bedding too. I can see why Ben wanted to hop right in his. Bob and I aren’t exchanging gifts this year. We are just putting money towards the many house repairs that have been building up. But today, when we were out getting kids Christmas gifts, I silently passed a new bedding set that looked like the most comfortable thing ever and made a mental note for next year.

I hope you guys have a great time getting your Christmas tree! That is always a fun time. We are hoping to make some Christmas cookies tomorrow. Bring out my inner Sam – he inspired me! Although, I doubt mine will look as good as his 🙂 We’ll see what happens. Just hope we all enjoy the day! 🙂

    1. Little stinker fell asleep in the car on the drive to drop Daughter at work. New bedding IS nice! Daughter got a complete set for like $50 for queen size. Its white & grey… not the best colors for a mess like him & Zeus too, but our house is never gonna make a magazine cover anyway😂😂😂
I was SO surprised to see Sven awake! It’s been SO cold (for here), even during the day, I didnt expect him to wake up til it got warmer🤷🏼‍♀️ I kept waiting for him to go after a berry, but he just stared at me. I was lucky to catch him with the greens. I felt bad about him eat dried out, crunchy greens☹ I guess it’s better than no food🤷🏼‍♀️ Now we’ll have to see if he stays awake or sleeps for another month… I’m SOO envious!😉

Good luck with the cookies! I hope you guys have a good time, with no drama or tears.🤞🍪💞

    1. I found your comment in Spam☹ Already I’m not liking the paid version 😡
Hopefully the Christmas Tree Adventure will not include Daughter Drama… Younger runs on her own time schedule which can cause stress to Older and myself… very punctual people we are.😂

Sven was super bright yellow… happy boy! I’d be happy too if I could sleep for weeks, wake up to eat, then go back to sleep😉😂😂🌊🦄💞🦋✨💃🏼🌈🤗🥰

  2. Some excitement going on at night. Maybe it was on the news about them catching a desperate villain. Anyway I hope it is an uneventful evening tonight and you get your early night too. Hugs Angie. ❤️

    1. I looked to see if I could find a report about the helicopter, but nothing.🤷🏼‍♀️ There’s a small airport a couple miles north, so the helicopters are common. I’ll ask the folks at the market the next time I go over… probably tomorrow 😂 I’m usually over there just about every day. It’s so close, it’s easy when Daughter or Ben want snack stuff to just grab a mask and walk over. TOO easy😉😂😂
      Gonna keep trying.
      I hope you have a great Sunday!🤞🤗🥰💖

    1. The colors of the sky just amaze me! I’m outside saying Wow! and Ohmigosh! and Daughter is inside, laughing at me. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Of course I’m smiling! Its Saturday Night, so that means Swiss Sunday, and that ALWAYS makes me smile!!😁💌💌💌

  3. Good luck with the tree hunt! We finally put up our tree yesterday. Despite my contemplations about “going small” this year, I ended up dragging the big-ass artificial out of one of the backyard sheds. Luckily, it’s pre-lit and the branches fall into place quite nicely (whoever designed this thing did quite well), so even with me fluffing said branches the whole process only took about 30 minutes.

No ornaments this year, despite the fact that we have crates and crates of such shoved into our two attics. (Some of which I haven’t seen in decades, no lie.) I wanted simple, and there’s a certain charm to just a tree and some white lights that twinkle on and off. And it looks nice from the street, as we have floor-to-ceiling windows along the front of Bonnywood. I’m calling it good.

Will there be pictures of your own efforts? I’ll show you mine if you show me yours… 😉

    1. There will be pictures at some point.🎄 When that will be, I can’t say.🤷🏼‍♀️ When the Daughters get together it can be good, bad, or Jerry Springer Style. 😵 I don’t know if the tree will be decorated tomorrow or just purchased. I just do what I’m told, and hide in my room til it’s done, or time to put the Angel on top😇 (my job) I’m like the Bumble from Rudolph… the toothless version, not the mean one😉

    1. He was super bright! He went back to sleep after the exertion of eating🙄😂 It’s before noon here as I type this and he’s still sleeping. It was 4°C overnight, and even with his extra heat, it’s chilly. I’m waiting to see if he’s gonna stay asleep or rejoin us.🤷🏼‍♀️ Pet reptiles have the good life!😉💌

    1. Sven has been brumating again. It was nice to see him wake up. He’s back to sleeping, the stinker.
Mother Nature has been outdoing herself with the sunrises and sunsets.
I’m SOO looking forward to Christmas when I can have my camera. It’s here, but the daughters say I have to wait☹😂
