Part 295 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Sunset started mellow and then Mother Nature went TA DA! and brought the colors. I took over one hundred pictures again. I also took a short video

The background noise is the traffic on the street. No evidence of lockdown around my house.

I tried to narrow down from about seventy-five, it’s difficult when it changes so much…

Ben put on his Ladybug costume while I was communing with Mother Nature. It’s a one piece unitard that covers hands and feet, so I had to unzip and pull down the top half so he could eat his pizza. When I told him it was gonna be time for his bath soon, he got upset. He wanted to keep the costume on.

I made the Executive Decision to skip the bath and let him sleep in the costume. It made him happy and I didn’t have to stress about getting him in the tub, and back out and dressed before Driving Miss Daisy. He ate three of the four pieces of the half pizza. And having the occasional intelligent moment, I made him use the baño before zipping him back into the costume.

We took Daughter to work, came home and The Boys were tucked in. Daughter was texted, and I started with the Things and Stuff. Ben must’ve still been tired, I didn’t hear any noise from his room after the “Goodnight.” Zeus didn’t even bark when there was a knock on the door.

I went to see who in the Hello Kitty was knocking on my door, figuring it was a neighbor from the front house. When I opened the door I saw a box had been delivered. I opened it and found the eight boxes of twelve count chalk. WOOT WOOT!

Daughter texted around 10pm that they’d opened eight more beds for COVID, and she had already done four admissions. She expected three or four more before her shift ended. She got the fifth while were texting and had to go. The post-holiday super-spike has hit San Diego County. The Emergency Department was so slammed, they had to transport people to different hospitals.

I finished the Things and Stuff, made and ate some food, took my meds and konked around midnight. I actually slept pretty well, surprisingly.

The 6am alarm I set but rarely need is what woke me this morning. Ben and Zeus were up by 6:10am. Ben had a Potty Emergency https://youtu.be/uxzFUpJd7_A (still having trouble linking text… glitchy WP!) and needed help unzipping his costume.

After his morning meds, I went to look at the sky. Wow! More amazing colors from Mother Nature.

Ben and I went to get Daughter. She was waiting for us, and I didn’t do the “rolling stop” cuz I knew she’d had a rough shift. See… I can be nice.

We came home and Dogzilla was SOOO happy to see us after the eternal absence of twenty or maybe even twenty-five minutes. He had a toy in his mouth, whining and wiggling so hard. His tail was knocking stuff over left and right, and he was blocking our way into the dang house. We all finally managed to fight our way past him, and eventually settled into our assigned places… Daughter in her room, The King and I *(shall we dance?) on the couch. Couch Sittin Duty recommenced.

Ben and I had a good morning and early afternoon. He brought out that phrase around 10am, but he said it like a dubious question, like even he didn’t think it was gonna happen. I asked him if he wanted chalk. He said “Yes” so I went and got a box, handed it to him, and said “Look at what came in the mail.” I even got a “Thank you, Gramma.”

Daughter got up and took over at 3:15pm. The Changing Of Couch Sitters Ceremony was completed, and I gave my report. There wasn’t much to report, the major event was Ben having a BM… YAY! POOP! I took a stroll around the back yard then got Horizontal.

Around 3:30pm Ben decided he needed to start busting on the wall again. He will leave it alone for months and then he gets fixated on it and we have a hard time making him stop. He uses toys, broom handles, rocks… taking the stuff away from him causes problems, more anger… Ugh! We got him to stop but I wish he’d STOP breaking things. Or if he has to break things, I wish he’d stick to the list of acceptable things.

It’s getting to be about that time. Pregame Show and all that. Sunset… a time of peace, and getting Ben ready to Drive Miss Daisy, a time of stress. Peace and Stress. Pretty much sums up life at Casa Cuckoo… and life in general.

*A favorite scene from a favorite movie. Keep Dancing!!

Shall We Dance – The King And I

Finally, a mellow day! We all needed it and could use a few more just like it. A few hiccups, but perfect would scare me, TBH. More Driving Miss Daisy tomorrow morning and tomorrow night. More Couch Sittin Duty too. Who knows what else might happen? Hopefully a whole bunch of nothing. I guess I’ll know when I know. Come find out with me. ¡Hasta mañana!

  1. The video works great! And I love the perspective it gives me on all the picture angles you’ve been sharing.
    Mother Nature was brilliant again!
I’m so excited the reserve chalk came!
I could feel the zen when you were able to give Ben just what he needed in that moment. Hugs ✨🎶💐💕🤗

    1. I will be thankful to Jeff forever for suggesting YouTube. It’s a great place to “store” videos I want to share, and it’s a great workaround to the WP “no videos unless you pay us more money” thing.😉

I feel better knowing I have lots of chalk put by. I wish the bigger boxes would come before I run out of the little boxes. I’m tempted to order a dozen more.🤷🏼‍♀️
Chalk, and it HAS to be the squared Crayola chalk, had been a part of Ben’s life since he was a toddler.

I hope you have/had Sweet Dreams and peaceful rest!🦄🦋✨🌠🤗🥰💞💃🏼🎶🧸😴😴🌈

      1. That’s neat about The chalk being a lifelong thing. A mystery to us but no doubt he has a brilliant reason.
Thank you, Sweet dreams and a Good night’s sleep to You too!! 💕😴⭐️🎶💃🏼🐶🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾😂💓✨

  2. That’s quite a sunset. I was looking at the insane number of covid cases today and I thought, ‘ok the variant is on the loose.’ I didn’t think about the christmas factor. Go what’s going to happen when the variant begins it’s nuclear fission? 600,000 cases per day?

    1. I read yesterday that the Pfizer vaccine seems to be effective against the variant. It’s already loose in San Diego County and other places in California. No surprise really. There are plenty of deniers and idjits.
I’m glad Daughter gets her 2nd shot on the 17th. Then hopefully after the 20th it will be more widely available.

It’s too bad the people dying aren’t all the deniers. I don’t wish death on anyone, but actions have consequences and the idjits should suffer the consequences more than unlucky essential workers. That’s my 2 cents anyway.

  3. This video works so well. You’ve become quite the tech expert . Yeyyyyy for the timely delivery of the crayola chalk! I love it too! Though not as much as Ben. A good day and thankfully good sleep too. Lots of love and hugs! Hope tonight goes well too.

    1. I’m glad the video plays well. Autofocus was a little slow, but it’s a VERY low budget production 😂😂 I’ve tried to do panoramic photos but they really dont capture it. The video hopefully shows why I get so excited… the whole sky is just amazing. Mother Nature giving us a treat!

Happy Saturday, Sadje! I hope you have a great day!💃🏼✨🤗🥰💞

    1. For the longest time I hated weekends cuz no school for Ben. Starting in March, when the first lockdown happened, I completely lost track of the days. When his school started pressuring us to sign him onto Zoom, I liked weekends again cuz no Zoom. Now I’m back to not knowing what day it is, cuz we’re back on lockdown, but not bothering with Zoom. If I do remember what day it is, it has no meaning… all the days kinda run together 🤪😆
      I hope you’re having a good “Whatever Day”😉🤣🤣💕

  4. Beautiful sunset! And sunrise! Wow, all those colors are so pretty.

When I was watching all those idiots storm the capitol, I realized 75% weren’t wearing masks. And I thought, “Well, here we go. Here goes another wave with the virus.” That is a lot on your daughter to deal with all those admissions and the virus in general. I bet she can’t wait until the 17th!

I am glad you had a very mellow day. Here is hoping for another one of those for today!

    1. I read that the gal who was shot is from here. Made me think of all those people going back to their hometowns with Kooties. We’ve already got the variant here. That and the post Holiday spike… it all just makes me so Angry!
Thank goodness for pretty skies, and a mellow day to chill me out😉🤣

Happy weekend, no Zoom to you! I hope you get some Robyn time!💕🦋🌻💃🏼

  5. First, I’ll add my two cents to your two cents about the idjits and deniers getting sick. Just as you, I don’t wish death on anyone, but it pisses me off that some of the idjits are now taking away critical ICU beds that should (in my opinion) first go to the decent people who have tried very hard to be safe but somehow got the cootie. It doesn’t seem the right karmic balance, to me.

Second, completely unrelated but inspired by your video: What is your favorite movie musical? Just curious…

      1. I would probably go with “Cabaret”. I’d have to qualify that by saying I haven’t seen it in quite some time, so I’m not sure how “dated” it might feel now. But it had a huge impact on me in my youth. It was dark, different, decadent and daring, and it spoke to me like nothing I had ever seen…

        1. Daughter said “Rent” was the first musical that spoke to her. I love Rent, but it wasnt the first that kinda blew me away… that would be Hedwig And The Angry Inch… I saw it on cable a million years ago and LOVED it.
I saw Cabaret forever ago too. Don’t really remember it. I guess we both need to see it again, huh?😉

    1. I started calling him Dogzilla when Ben was setting up all these boxes and taped-together-blocks into… whatever it was🤷🏼‍♀️😂. Zeus would walk through, wagging his tail… then everything would get knocked over…

      😂😂😂there goes Tokyo…
