Part 301 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Another amazing sunset! I made a video of a bunch of the pictures, but it won’t let me upload it to YouTube. I also made another video of the sunset in progress.

Sunset – January 13, 2021

So we’ll skip the usual sunset photos, in the usual manner. I took WAAAAAY too many pictures, as usual.

We had a difficult time prying Ben away from the chalk when his steak was ready. After he had his meds, and ate his food, it was bath time. It was also hair washing time. He complained as he always does, but he really didn’t fight. It wasn’t the Wrassling The Octopus it usually is. I had to wash it twice! Yes, yes… rinse, repeat. All the chalk dust, and dirt from sweeping, mixed with normal sweat and oil, mixed with unrinsed conditioner… he was probably happy to have a clean head.

Then I had to scrub him with soap to get the chalk dust off. Generally playing in a bubble bath is good enough, but he looked like he’d rolled around in chalk dust. Plus, he’d missed a bath (or two? I can’t remember…) with his wonky sleep schedule.

After bath, The Boys were tucked in and the usual Stuff and Things followed. Ben got up to use the baño around 8:30pm. I got him back to bed and covered up. Zeus stayed in the bedroom. Big Dumb Dog is smart enough to know it wasn’t time to get up yet. Good Dawg!!

Around 11pm I was reading, getting ready to take my med and call it a night, when my body decided it was time, and hit the OFF switch. I woke up briefly a couple times, but went right back to sleep. At 4:03am my body hit the ON switch, and I was awake. Unfortunately, my brain didn’t get the memo. Dang!

I noticed I hadn’t taken my med, and seriously thought about taking it at 4am. But I didn’t. I got up, activated the Coffee Dragon and headed to the baño.

I kept waiting for Ben and Zeus. Daughter passed my room around 5:30am. I was really surprised that we were both awake and The Boys were still sleeping. Especially when the 6:30am med alarm went off while I was trying to take pictures of Venus.

Who knows how long Ben might’ve slept if I hadn’t let Zeus out of his room around 7am. Ben got up a few minutes after Zeus left, and ran to the baño… Potty Emergency! He plopped on the couch after. Daughter wanted him to go to her room, so I got his tablet and refilled his water bottle, gave him his meds and nudged him off the couch, into Daughter’s room. They hung out in her room until 8:45am, then moved to the living room.

Daughter told me In-N-Out opens at 10:30am. I told her I had forgotten… well, not forgotten, I just hadn’t gotten there yet. She said she’d been thinking about it since she woke up at 4am. I don’t know how anyone can think about food at 4am, unless that’s the end of their day. I told her I’d go after Ben’s 10:30am meds. (Which were given just before 11am since his morning meds were late)

So, a little after 11am, I masked up and drove to In-N-Out. There was already a line, cuz there’s always a line, but it wasn’t too bad… maybe twenty cars ahead of me. I got the food and delivered it to Daughter, then went over to Market for chips, Monsters, and wine. Does anyone know the best wine to pair with a Double Double? Daughter prefers cheap sangria. The kind that comes with a screw top. Probably a good pairing.

At 1:45pm Daughter asked me to take over Couch Sittin Duty so she could go stretch out before she has to work tonight. I told her I’d take over whenever she wanted when they moved from her room to the living room this morning. I grabbed my stuff and cleaned up the scattered chalk, and straightened up the couch, then I began Couch Sittin Duty.

I noticed Mr Grumpy Beard or Mr Sleepy Head, moved from his house to the Pouting Corner, so I took his picture.

Triangle-head side-eye… I actually missed it when he was sleeping. Ben went into my room and grabbed, and opened, two boxes of chalk from my closet. He’s going a little overboard, and I need to find a new place to hide it. At this rate, the twenty-four boxes will be gone before the end of the month. I had a little talk with him, again, about asking for, not just taking, what he wants. Probably as effective as the last talk.

Daughter said she was setting her alarm for 4:15pm. I asked if she was gonna get up then. She said she didn’t know. I asked what she’d do if I wasn’t here, she said be late for work, or not sleep. I don’t know if she’ll get up at 4:15pm or not. Honestly, Ben is my concern. I will take care of him as if she weren’t here. Better for me that way. I’m perfectly capable of feeding, bathing, and having him ready to Drive Miss Daisy on my own.

And on that note, I’d better get back to Peasant Duty. HRH calls… he needs help

In honor of today’s WOTD (Word Of The Day)

Try A Little Tenderness – Otis Redding

Another groovy day. WOOT WOOT! I’m not digging the temperature change of 40°F (4°C) in the morning to 86°F (30°C) in the afternoon, and the 13% humidity, but if I’m complaining about the weather, things cant be too bad, right right?!? Right, right! Driving Miss Daisy tonight and getting her in the morning. I also have my monthly Pump Fill appointment at my pain doctor’s office tomorrow morning. Hopefully they will fill me up and send me on my way quickly. Then I’ll be doing Peasant Duty and Couch Sittin Duty. Same thing really. Put your shorts and tank top on and bring your moisturizer, and come hang out with us. ¡Hasta mañana!

  1. Great song 🎶 Love the sunset, it was gorgeous! Those colors in the clouds and against the darkening blue. Wow! And hearing your voice give me an extra smile. We don’t have In and Out here in Texas. Hope it was yummy. Have a super appointment tomorrow for your pump fill, zippity fast and home again 🤗💞🌷🧁

    1. My pump fill is actually on Monday, not tomorrow 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ I think my brain might be on vacation. All those pretty colors blew my mind🤯🤪 clean out of my head😂😂
I just kept saying WOW! The colors were there after dark even… it was crazy! A super treat to end a super day!🤐🤐
I get carried away talking about it too😁
In-N-Out is super yummy. They make their fries from whole potatoes cut in the store. There’s ALWAYS a line though. It’s like the rides at an amusement park. Gotta wait in a long line for the good ride, or the good burger.😉💕💃🏼🥰🤗💝🦋🌻

  2. I have a little thief when it comes to the headphones. I hide them, and then rehide them, and then rehide them again. D chews the wire when he jumps on his trampoline, or one earbud doesn’t sound “right” or something else of the sort. Headphones are expensive and I hate that we go through them so fast when maybe I could tweak them a little to make them work. But he finds them and just takes them before I can assess the damage. Grrrr!

Nice chill day with a little Sven – awesome! Here is hoping for the same tonight and a super chill day tomorrow!

    1. We have the same problem with earbuds! We buy the cheapo ones because Ben just let’s them hang and drag, or he sits on them… he’s NOT gentle with anything.
And he has to watch me get stuff, even though I try to be sly. I guess I’m not sly enough.
I’ve got boxes of chalk stashed in different places now. I hope I dont forget where🤪😂🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
Poor Sven is shedding around his mouth. It looks like he’s wearing white lipstick. 😂😂💕🌻💃🏼✨😍

  3. Weather is fine to complain about because it affects my head so much. It was a migraine day today, then meds, now slow brain. Glad peeps are getting some good sleep! 😘

    1. This weather is really awful! Everyone is all nasally and headachey. I’m sorry you got an M. They’re brutal! I’ve had slow brain all day without even the excuse of meds. I havent been able to concentrate…
I think tomorrow is supposed to be the peak, then it’ll start to weaken.🤞 Stupid Santa Ana. 🤯💕🦋

  4. That’s really nice day today Angie, except for getting up way too early! I am saving both your posts to watch the videos when I have more time. Hope it all goes well. Hugs and love.

  5. I enjoy a drop of Sangria now and then – reminds me of some lovely holidays we’ve had in Spain, especially when it’s cold and rainy here and we’re stuck in lock down. We all need holidays! 🙂

    1. I like sparkling wine, like asti spumati, but regular wine gives me a headache ☹ I prefer beer, Guinness Stout is always good, and the microbrews are good too. I’m a little burnt out on the IPA’s though.

I don’t drink often. Not smart with my meds😉💕

  6. Yep, I think a sangria might pair well with a burger 👍. The general rule I learned (which is pretty fail-safe in my experience) is red wine with red meats, white wine with white meats. It’s not a hard-and-fast rule; I’ve had red wine with buffalo chicken (then again I only eat dark chicken, not white meat lol), and salmon will stand up to red wine too, despite being a fish. It also depends on what other flavors are involved in the food, so it’s just personal preference at the end of the day 😉.

That’s an insane temperature swing! Wow! I do dig dryness, so I’m a little envious 😉. My body does not do well with humidity; my life would be a lot easier if it did! 😂.

For sunrises and sunsets, I dig either format—pics or video 😁

    Big hugs!! 🤗💖🥰🎊🎉🌆💝🌷🍷🌸😎🏆🤩🧚‍♀️🌈☀️☮️🌄

    1. I don’t do well with humidity either. The few times I’ve visited humid places in summer, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t breathe… it was brutal!! BUT… 9% is horrible too! Static electricity, constantly thirsty, my skin dries out no matter how much extra rich cream I use, and it messes with your sinuses too. It’s hard to breathe when it’s that dry.
I like it to be like 72° and 40% humidity all the time please.😘😂😂😂 oh, but cooler at night… say… 55°. Yep, that’s about perfect.😂

Daughter would say sangria goes with everything 😉😂😂

      1. Yeah 9% sounds pretty harsh! I remember driving out to El Paso and my lips got totally chapped on the way there! Rather unpleasant lol. Other than that I did ok; I’m definitely a desert girl lol 😂💓. 9% sounds a little extreme regardless though 💞. I’d be cool with 72-80* and 12-27% humidity 😁😁🎊🎉😎🌈☀️

I think you, Daughter, and I all need to meet up sometime 😉😍🥰💝❣️🧚‍♀️🌄🍷🍻☮️🌸🌴🌵

  7. I have to say that I love me some sangria as well. (In fact, my fave margarita at our fave Mexican restaurant, Ojeda’s, is a “swirl”, a combo of frozen margarita and sangria.) The best sangria, IMHO, is found in Spain. I can’t get enough of it. So when we had to cancel our yearly trip to Spain last year because of The Wretched Covid, one of my first thoughts was “how am I going to go another year without Spanish sangria?” Apparently I made it through the rain.

But beer is my first choice. I will try any type of beer, anywhere, just to see, because you never know. And in THAT category, my fave beer is one we consumed in mass quantities in Amsterdam. I can’t recall the name of it right at the moment, but it spoke to me, deeply…

    1. I really like Stella Artois Cidre… oops, it’s from Belgium not Amsterdam… close though😉

I’ll try anything. I mean why not? How do you know what’s good unless you try things? Sangria in a Margarita? I’m intrigued🤔💌

  8. How wickedly awesome Grandma, your voice!! Isn’t it funny how we think people are going to sound ? I expected that or the alternative, a voice like Johnny Cash … l am glad it was the first one though 🙂

Terrific sunsets, they remind me so much of the malaysian ones.

    1. We do get an idea of how people will sound. A gal who follows my blog from Wales mentioned my accent, and I thought “I don’t have an accent. I speak ‘basic American’.” But to someone from Wales, I certainly DO have an accent.
Johnny Cash huh?🤣🤣🤣 my voice is on the deep side, but not quite that deep.

The sunsets have been absolutely unreal! I don’t know if I’m just noticing more because of my Sciencey Stuff Project or if this year has been different, but WOW!! A gift I’m thankful for!!
