Part 316 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Sunset was really pretty last night, and as predicted, I took WAY too many pictures.

We got Ben ready to Drive Miss Daisy and the drive was fine. I got him and Zeus settled in bed and texted Daughter that we’d made it home. Ben got up once around 8pm to use the baño. I got him settled back in bed and he didn’t get up again. Hallelujah!

I did the usual and was texting with Daughter around 9:30pm. She worked the regular, non-COVID again. She had been super busy with super needy patients and a few lazy patients as well.

I ate my food while I was texting with her, and went into a Food Coma before taking my pill. I woke at 2am, still on top of the bed, covered only with a throw blanket, freezing and in pain. I took my sleeping pill, hobbled to the baño, then got under my blankets. Sophie Cat was not pleased at the disruption, but soon settled down, laying on my hip.

I woke again at 4am, hobbled to the baño again, and saw that the container thing we have under the leak in the roof was completely full. DANG!! It must’ve rained a LOT!! I was kinda glad I’d woken before it overflowed and got all the rugs wet. That wouldn’t have been a nice way to start the day.

I either didn’t set, or didn’t hear the 6am alarm go off. I woke to the 6:30am med alarm and had to find my phone to turn it off. I finally located it in the bedside trash can, turned the alarm off and got up, irritating Sophie again. I got Ben’s meds, let Zeus out, and woke Ben up to take the meds. I told him that he could stay in bed for a while, but we’d have to go get his Mama at 7:10am.

When we went to get Daughter there was a break in the rain, and the sky was really pretty. I took a few pictures then off we went. We picked her up, came home and Ben went outside to play in the pond in his dirt/mud hole. I went out to remind him that if he got muddy, he was going in the shower, and to look at the sky. The sky had a treat from Mother Nature…

I probably took fifteen pictures of the rainbow. I kept trying to get Ben to look at it, but he was having too much fun with the new water feature in our yard. He finally came back in, wet but not muddy. I helped him change pants and put his slippers on.

I had another surprise. Sven the Snoozin Dragon had come out of his house, and was next to his food dish. I got him some fresh greens and berries and paparazzi’d him. When he didn’t move to eat, I moved the heat coil and his lights closer to him. This cold, rainy weather is supposed to be over after this storm goes through. Maybe Sven will rejoin the land of the wakeful.

Ben had a Zoom at 10:30am and I got him to come sit for it. It was a class Zoom and it started with a story, then a bunch of exercises. Ben did his own thing, but he sat through all twenty minutes of it, so Yay, Ben!! When they asked him to wave his arms around, he said “No, thank you.” Everyone got a chuckle over that. After Zoom, Ben went back to doing the chalk thang.

Daughter stumbled out at 1:40pm to take over Couch Sittin Duty. She asked how the Zoom went and how the day had been. I gave her all the info and went to get Horizontal. Ben had been sitting on the couch eating some chips, when it started raining harder, he grabbed the umbrella and ran outside.

He stayed out there, through the downpour, the thunder and the hail. He came to the door to take meds at 2:30pm, and to drop off the umbrella when the rain stopped. He came and dropped all his clothes at the door at one point, and decided to cover himself… HIS ENTIRE NAKED BODY… in mud. Oh, man! I hate rain!

A little after 3pm it started pouring rain again. We should’ve left him out there to rinse off, the little goofball, but Daughter called him in, then asked me to either finish cooking her food, or shower him off. I chose shower since they always fight when the shower is involved. I got him mostly cleaned off, but I was trying to stay dry and keep the bathroom dry, so he wasnt completely clean. I told him he’d need to get in the tub later.

Daughter made Ben’s pizza early, figuring he’d be hungry after the rain/mud/shower episode. After I got him dressed he started snacking on Blue Ramen. Then he started bugging me about a new box of chalk. I’d given him at least four boxes of chalk already today. They were mostly twelve or sixteen piece, but sheesh! I’m wondering if I should sit with him and go through all of this partially used chalk and separate them by color. Maybe then he could see that he still has good pieces and doesn’t need a new box. I told him I’d give him a new box, yes… yes… a big box, after he ate some pizza. At least one whole piece. He gets away with a lot more on nights when Daughter has work. Again, I wish she drove or had another way of getting to work!

I can hear the rain pouring down again. I hope it stops before Driving Miss Daisy time. Unless the storm breaks up at lightning speed, there won’t be a visible sunset tonight.

I heard this on the radio while Driving Miss Daisy. I’ve heard the song before, but didn’t know the name or the band, so I looked it up. Thank you, Goigle.

6 Underground – Sneaker Pimps

Thanks for hanging out with us, and Zoomin too. Tonight is Daughter’s last night of work, then she really has four days off. I’ll probably be washing all the clothes Ben went through today, if it has stopped raining. It might be better to wait until the mud dries. UGH! I’ll be Couch Sittin, but no Zoom. I’m sure Ben will find something else for me to do. ¡Hasta mañana!

    1. The mud is SOOO gross! He’s always been kinda gross though🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t know how he could stand being nekkid in the cold. But he’s a sensory seeker, so I guess he’s got a slight disconnect from his body. Autism is a trippy thing.
Sven moved again to the front Pouting Corner. If it’s nice enough tomorrow, I’ll put him in the shower and wake him up. He makes me super envious, sleeping all the time😉😂

  1. What a pretty sky to see at the close of a day and then at dawn for the next! Love the rainbow. That definitely brings a smile 🙂
Great job helping Ben through a big portion of his zoom! Sounds like that has to have been the most successful zoom yet. I cracked up at his, “No, thank you” too. At least he was polite and let everyone know he was done. 🙂
Oh my gosh, the mud! Declan always used to love when I mopped the floors. He would take off all his clothes and just do versions of snow angels across the slick floor. Ben’s fun in the mud reminded me of D’s snow angels. Silly boys!
Hope you guys have a great night and a great day tomorrow!

    1. I get playing in the mud. I remember being a kid. But to get nekkid when it was just hailing, and cover his entire body… face, arms, legs, everything… I don’t know how he could stand the cold.
Mud is better than the poo he used when he was much younger. 🙄🤢

Today’s rainbow stayed longer than the last one. Rainbow make up for yucky cold rain. And the storm moved out pretty fast. I had a sunset too💃🏼✨🌈💕

I hope Clan Coupe has a great weekend! Nice and relaxing!🌻🌈💕

  2. Rain, clouds, storm and then logically, mud! You had them all today. But at least some good sleep too. Love the pictures specially of the rainbow 🌈 you captured that so well. And so glad that zoom went well too.
Hope it’s a good relaxing drive today and a calm night and day tomorrow.
    Hugs.

    1. Thank you, Sadje. It stopped raining before the drive, so that was good. I’m gonna try, once again, to go to bed early… before I konk out randomly🙄
I hope you have a fantastic Saturday, doing exactly what you want to do!🤞🌈🌻🤗🥰💕

  3. Mud glorious mud ‘ no thank you’ l detest mud as much as l detest snow and ice and currently rain. But good stuff that Ben sat well for the zoom. Well here we are all heading into February and if that 3rd Feb date is anything to go by, not looking great is it?

Beautiful Sun sky shots grandma 🙂

    1. Thank you, thank you! I’m in agreement about the mud, especially nekkid, especially after it just HAILED
Yeah, the Feb 3 date made me realize I’d been holding on to the “through January” the school told us when they announced that they were staying closed after winter break.
Since March 13, 2020 he went to school 18 times. 2.5 months of 2 days a week.
I laugh when I think about your Bus Countdown that you did for me when I was stressing over him being out of school for what? 3 weeks🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
I think it’s harder now because burnout, and we can see the end is near… it’s just not happening fast enough!

    1. Maybe the mud might feel good if it wasnt freezing cold. He doesn’t feel things like cold, heat, pain… I guess it’s part of his autism. 🤷🏼‍♀️ He’s always surprising me with the things he does. Not the mud though… I KNEW that was coming🤪🤦🏼‍♀️🙄
      💕😂

  4. This is certainly one point where Ben and I are compatible: If someone asked me to wave my arms around, I would politely decline as well. Okay, maybe not politely, but I would definitely decline.

The mud thing, though? In the cold rain? No. Just, no… 😉

    1. Right?! He really doesn’t feel things the same way. He has a ridiculously high pain threshold, he doesn’t seem to notice when he’s cold, or too hot, he throws his body into, onto, against stuff… really hard! It’s like there’s a loose wire between his nerves and his brain, and it only connects if you jiggle it right. Kinda like those stereo speakers, you know the ones😂😂😂
