Part 326 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I didn’t have much hope for sunset but I went outside anyway. It has always been my favorite time of day, especially in summer. Sunset and twilight… I love the shadows and the quality of light, I love the peaceful easing into darkness… I’ll use “sunset” as today’s thing I lurve for Paula’s thingy. Anyway, I got a nice surprise cuz the marine layer rolled in and sunset was pretty.

Ben ate his steak, took his meds, and I ran his bath, then cleaned up all the chalk and took his stuff to his room. He went to bed without any problems. Daughter went to her room and I got Horizontal.

Then I remembered that Monday is trash day, so I took the bins down to the curb. And since I was already up, did some of the nightly Stuff and Things. I was trying to get to bed early. Early for me anyway. I did pretty well actually, I took my pill at 10:15pm and was asleep probably around 11pm.

As usual, I woke several times, but I went back to sleep pretty quickly last night. I woke for the day at 5:45am to a quiet house. Sophie Cat climbed up, sat on my shoulder and purred into my ear. What is with these animals and my ear?! Weirdos! I think she was trying to make me go back to sleep so I’d be still. I am her Cat Bed… in her eyes anyway. I had to deny her, poor Sophie, and get up.

The Boys, or at least at least the Big Dumb one, must’ve heard me cuz they came banging and thumping out of Ben’s room a few minutes later. Sigh! The quiet was nice while it lasted.

By 6:30am we were settled on the couch with ALL of Ben’s Kittys, and his tablet and water bottle. I uncovered Sven and went to move the heat coil over him cuz it was chilly this morning, and discovered it was turned off. Poor Sven! No wonder he hasn’t moved.

Ben asked for a big box of chalk, and I got it for him, but it was too chilly for him to get out of his blanket tent. Okay by me. I like when he’s happily watching his tablet, giggling and being still. Zeus wasn’t happy being still, he wanted to play, so I threw his ball or his tug-rope down the hall for him a dozen or so times. A mellow morning at the Casa.

Daughter got up around 9:45am and took over. I got more coffee and went to get Horizontal. At 10:30am we started giving Ben reminders that Zoom School was approaching. Just before 11am Ben got up from doing his chalk thang and sat on the couch. Well done, Ben!! Daughter told him if he did a good job during Zoom School she’d cook bacon and taters for him. He loves bacon and fried taters. Who doesn’t?! Ben sat through the entire half hour, but didn’t really participate. Good enough as far as I’m concerned. He isn’t learning anything new, but he hasn’t regressed either. He’ll start learning School Stuff again in two weeks. We’ve taught him a few Life things since he’s been home.

Around 1pm Daughter asked if Mexican food sounded good. I told her it sounded as good as anything else, that if she wanted Mexican food, then she should order it. I told her to get me a quesadilla, knowing if I didn’t request something she’d either not order and pout, or order too many things she thought I might like. At least with the quesadilla if I don’t want it, she’ll eat it.

Ben came to hang out in my room around 1:45pm. At 2:15 Daughter brought his meds in. When I felt her sit on the bed I looked over, she said she was doing his meds a little early. I nodded and went back to the article I was reading.

After taking his meds, Ben jumped up and went to the living room to mess with one of his Barber Chairs. He became obsessed with having two square red pillows. We unfortunately only had one square red pillow, so he stomped and grunted and told me to “get dressed and go to the store…”. I just ignored it. He was just saying the words.

Daughter has work tonight, and Ben seems to be having a bumpy afternoon/evening. Getting him ready to Drive Miss Daisy is going to take patience. Daughter is already grumpy at his grunting, so it’s probably going to take active intervention… OR, it could all be fine.

Another decent day. Even the Zoom wasn’t horrible. Daughter works tonight, then is off until Friday night. Her schedule this month is all kinds of weird. It’s not what she requested, not at all. Anyway, that means tomorrow morning we pick her up, and she sleeps. I’ll be in charge of Zoomin, but Tuesdays are his Speech and OT days, so it should be fine. The whole day should be easy. Should be doesn’t mean will be though. We’ll keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. ¡Hasta mañana!

  1. I love sunset too 🥰. Way to Go, Ben!! Sounds like he did great sitting through zoom. 🥳 I giggled at your quesadilla order. That’s something I would do. 🙃 Nevertheless, I hope you eat the quesadilla and that it’s super yummy. I’ll be by for morning coffee ☕️ and chitchat ☺️. Hugs until then 🤗 and Be safe tonight. ✨🎶💞

    1. Thanks! I ate my quesadilla. It was okay… I make yummier ones myself😉😂😂
Driving Miss Daisy went fine, and The Boys are tucked in.
The Coffee Dragon is set to burble & hiss at 5am, hopefully none of us will be awake that early, but it’s better to be prepared 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️😂

  2. Pretty pictures! That is awesome Ben sat for the zoom. It sounds like progress! Happy day! I hope everything goes well this evening – getting daughter to work and the boys to bed. I hope it goes smooth and then you all have a great day of chill ahead!

    1. Thanks Robyn! Ben sat on the couch the entire 30 minutes, but he didnt do anything. It’s kinda wrong to expect him to, his IEP has him at 10 minutes at a time. He only has focus when doing things he likes. He doesnt like Zoom.😂😂😂 None of us do.
I hope your Tuesday is drama free🤞💕

  3. Very good sunset pictures Angie. Well they let you sleep for 5-6 hours, very graciously and then it was time for a bit of unrest and bumpiness. But the fact that he sat through the zoom is a great.
Hope it’s does goes well tonight. Lots of love and hugs.

    1. Thanks Sadje! The afternoon stayed bumpy, but we got through it and got Daughter to work. He’s doing remarkably well considering how long he’s been cooped up at home.
I hope you’re still taking it easy… slowly getting back to your activities. Happy Tuesday to you!🌻💖🤗💕🌈

  4. Wow! You made it to bed earlier. Waaay to gooo! I know how hard that is.
I like my “me” time at night. I run around all day, so when I finally get in bed to relax, i check my phone. Usually emails, Instagram, Twitter only sometimes, texting friends back, etc…
Hubby gets a back rub and he doesn’t complain.
Time for another fun filled day here.
Dental cleaning appointment, phone call with my dad’s nurses, and zoom book club tonight. Also been wanting to get a bike ride in. Ken hurt his leg playing soccer last Friday, so I don’t have an exercise buddy now.

    Love your positivity Angie.
Have a great day with Ben.

    1. Thanks Teri! I work hard staying focused on the good things. There are plenty of bad, but I can’t do anything about most of it, so thinking about it just makes me feel yucky. And I’ve already spent too much time feeling yucky!
I do try to take care of myself, but with Ben and Daughter’s work/sleep schedule… it’s tough, and mostly out of my hands.
I wouldn’t complain about a back rub at night either. 😉💕

  5. Sexy sunsets indeed. I had a Mexican once, he was a grumpy sod … no joking aside, l used to eat a lot of Mexican food when l lived in London in the 90’s … l loved it …………… these days however l thi nk it would burn me through and award me with a second AH and l don’t need that 🙂

      1. That looks scrumptous, sadly however my diet is now changing dramatically and so what l can and cannot eat is now proving to be a hugely problematic food puzzle.
