If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.
Last night’s sunset was pretty, but all the clouds were gone. No dramatic part two, no drama at all. I still love that time of day, it’s still my favorite.
Dinner, bath and bedtime went fine. Ben was goofing in his room, but he was in his room, so all good… until like 10pm, when he was still being loud. I went and told him to chill out and go to sleep. He’s getting good at faking “contrite”, little stinker. At 11:30pm I went in again and told him it was seriously time to settle and try to sleep. I told him that I wanted to sleep, but I couldn’t if he was still awake, goofing off.
At 12:30am I heard him get up and felt Zeus sniffing my ear. I heard Daughter get up and go get Ben and send him back to his room. I also heard her telling Zeus several times to “go bedtime”. Zeus didn’t want to go, he wanted to stay with me. He gets a bit ridiculous with his attachment. I was barely aware of all this because my meds, Food Coma, and exhaustion were pulling me under. I woke briefly in the wee hours and all was quiet… I don’t even know what time it was. I don’t remember the 6:30 med alarm, so I must’ve turned it off, or slept through it.
I woke woke around 7:45am and discovered that I’d fallen asleep with chocolate in my mouth, evidenced by the brown drool on my pillowcase, my hand and my face. So attractive! I got up and cleaned up. Ben and Zeus joined me. Actually, they got to the living room before me cuz they move a LOT faster than I do. Yadda yadda yadda… Couch Sittin Duty.
HRH suffered a relapse of that mysterious malady that robbed him of the use of his legs, Bless his heart! I was asked to get him a soda, then a Hershey bar, then his black hat… NOT the green one. His relapse went back into remission and he did his chalk thang for two minutes or so, then asked for a forty-eight piece box. I got the chalk and the Willy Wonka scripting changed to singing Celebrate… boom boom boom, here we go!
Daughter got up and took over a little while later… around 10am. We exchanged Ben details, did the super secret ceremony for the Changing of the Couch Sitters. I got more coffee and got Horizontal.
At 10:55am we got Ben to sit on the couch for Zoom School, but he was VERY unhappy! He scripted and yelled at the teacher. He kept saying “Goodbye”. I personally think it’s great that they see how he responds to Zoom School. It’s a waste of everyone’s time.
Ben scripted and hollered for about five minutes, then got up and went to his chalk. Daughter got him back to the couch, in front of the laptop, after almost ten minutes of coaxing (the mic was left on) where he continued to script. They were trying to get him to spell the word “cab” to go with the picture. He kept saying “car” which is also correct. He calls them “taxi” not cab, and his teachers know this. I don’t know why they keep trying to make him do this same assignment. Daughter said there were a bunch of other people in this Zoom session too, observing maybe, they weren’t talking. Good! The more people can see that Zoom does NOT work for Ben, maybe the sooner we can be excused. Anyway, after about five minutes of arguing over whether it was a car or a cab, they let Ben be done. Wasted time, but he didn’t get overly upset, so all good. WHEW!
Ben went back to doing his chalk thang and Casa Cuckoo was chill. Even Sven seemed to be in a decent mood today. He was looking unimpressed this morning, but by the afternoon he was bright and not pouting. That’s good, right?!
I think for today’s Lurve offering for Paula, I’m gonna choose concerts. Since my first concert, Pat Benatar, I have loved going to shows. I’ve seen so many bands, and been to so many tours and festivals. As my daughters got old enough, I began taking them to shows and they both continue to go with me. Younger more than Older since Ben came along, but Older and I have tickets for a show in July that was supposed to happen last July. Hopefully it won’t be canceled again.
Ben continued to do his chalk thang most of the day. He came in to hang out with me a few times, bringing his tablet then sending me to get more chips, or another soda. He did say please each time, so at least he’s polite when he’s being lazy. He hung out until around 3pm then ran off outside. When I peeked a little later, he was doing his thang with all the used chalk I’d taken out there. Very good!
Things are headed toward the evening wind down. Sunset and Ben’s dinner, meds and bath. No Driving Miss Daisy tonight, but it starts again tomorrow night. Hopefully HRH will actually go to sleep at a reasonable time tonight.
One of the bands playing at the show from the last pictures of me and Younger.
Daughter goes back to work tomorrow night. The laundry she planned to do today, will be done tomorrow. Quarter Lady?? Ben Zooms at 10:30am on Fridays, that may or may not happen tomorrow. I have no idea how the rest of tonight will go, I definitely don’t know what will happen tomorrow. It will be the same old thing, and completely unexpected at the same time. It will be Casa Cuckoo… ยกHasta maรฑana!

Pat B is one of the few Iโve seen! Iโm not a huge concert fan because of the loud factor. She was great tho. Still love her ๐ถ๐

The noise and the crowds don’t seem to bother me at concerts. The only thing that has changed is I have to have a seat now. No more GA for this old gal. Oh, and I havent been in a mosh pit Since 2007 or so… both daughters were with me that time๐

Love the photos! I can only hope my kids want to go to concerts with me when I am older. That definitely shows how much they love hanging with you! That is so awesome!
I do appreciate it when the teachers or the therapists get to really see what we go through to get our kids on the zooms to “try and make it work.” They are not as easy, well, I don’t know if autistic support staff think it is easy – but I always think it is good for any level of management to sit at the desk level to assess what expectations are and what reality is. I hope this zoom gets Ben more actual in-person class time and less expectations on zoom.
Here is hoping you get some great hours of continuous sleep tonight and a super chill day ahead!

I’m very lucky that we like the same music. Older Daughter wont claim it but the first show we went to was Brittney Spears. I got the tickets the day they went on sale and by the time the concert came around, she was over it. We went anyway. The next show we saw was Green Day/Blink 182/Jimmy Eat World in 2001. She claims that as her 1st show๐๐
Green Day/Jimmy Eat World is the first show all 3 of us went to a few years later.
I bet Miss Sass would go to a show with you. ๐๐ถ๐๐ผโจ
I don’t think Ben will get more days on campus until all the adults are vaccinated, since it’s an autism only school. I’d be happy if we could just skip the Zooms, but they have to show “teaching hours” or whatever to get paid.๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
Stay warm!๐

I used to hate how she was always taking pictures of everything with her phone. Now I totally appreciate all the pictures she’s taken. I wouldn’t have these if she hadn’t.
I asked her today why we’re always making weird faces. She said “because we’re weird people”๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ can’t argue with the truth.
I don’t have pictures with Older Daughter like that because neither of us thought to take them.๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ That’s going to change๐๐๐๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ป

We’ve got seats for the upcoming show, and it’s at the baseball stadium. Hopefully by July more people will have been vaccinated. I’ll still wear a mask… probably until I get vaccinated, which will be when it’s open to everyone… and knowing me, I’ll not be one of the first people to get it either, unless my pain doctor offers it๐๐ I guess we’ll have to wait and see… They won’t do the show if they dont think it can be done safely.
Concerts have never been “healthy” events, and I kinda shudder at some of the risks I took when I was a teen. Life is always going to have some risks though, and an outdoor concert with my vaccinated Daughter is worth a little risk.๐

Whatโs life without a bit of risk. Youโre not a boring โold personโ like me! You should have some g fun.

You’re not a boring old person. If I’d had my knees replaced and an organ removed I’d probably be more cautious too.๐ค๐ฅฐ
Maybe not.๐คช I was kinda wild in my teens… different culture from yours๐๐ถ๐๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฆ

I know, and that is what I love. We are from different countries, cultures and have totally different languages but at the core we have so many similarities.

It’ll be brilliant when we can go to shows and festivals again. I miss live music and dancing!

Yep! I’ve been going to shows for 40 of my almost 53 years. I plan on hobbling with my walker when I’m in my 80s๐๐ถ๐๐ผ

The tickets were from 83? 84? Cant remember…
The show from the last pictures was Kongos, Iration, Offspring and Cheap Trick.
The middle pictures was Vance Joy, Alt-J, Billy Idol, and Cage The Elephant.
Lots of shows, lots of bands. It’s hard to remember, isnt it?๐๐
