Part 339 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

We’ve still got a mild Santa Ana going on… dry, windy and clear. I guess winds coming from the northeast are a common winter thing, we just happen to have a desert northeast of us. Sunset was mild, but pretty again. The Parrots photo bombed one shot, then did a flyby, and “Phoebe” the Black Phoebe stopped by to chat for a few seconds.

Ben did okay with the PreGame Show and we got Daughter to work without too much trouble. The worst thing that happened was when I stopped at a red light, then almost drove on before it turned green. I’ve done that before when I was super tired/brain fried. I treated it like a stop sign, instead of a red light. I stopped, looked, then drove on. It was clear when I did it before, and it would’ve been safe last night, but SHEESH!

We got safely home and The Boys were settled in Ben’s room. I did all the usual Things and Stuff, food, pill and sleep around 11pm. I woke up a bunch of times again, but they were brief surfacing wakes, not like Friday night. I woke around 5am and thought about getting up to enjoy the quiet, but while I was thinking about it, I dozed back off.

At 6am the alarm went off. On mornings that we need to get Daughter or Ben has school (which starts again tomorrow… WOOT WOOT!!) I like to get up a half hour before Ben’s first meds are due. That’s assuming that I’m not already up, which is rare. After I turned the alarm off, I listened. I didn’t hear Ben, so I was as quiet as I could be getting up. I did hear Zeus sniffing and huffing, but left him in Ben’s room.

At 6:30 I went to give Ben his meds and let Zeus out. Ben was watching his tablet in a blanket tent. I have no idea how long he’d been awake, but good for him for chillin in his room! After taking his meds, he was ready to get up. He put his slippers, black hat (NOT the green one!), and black suit jacket on, and started with the Willy Wonka scripting. UGH!

I went outside to look at sunrise, and look for my avian friends periodically from 6am until we left to get Daughter. I didn’t see Georgie and Gracie until we got home from picking her up.

We did have a very scary incident right before we left. I came out of the baño and was uncovering Sven, and I heard clicking. At first I thought it was the timer that Ben has been playing with, then I saw the squirt bottle, and the water on the stove. We have a gas stove with electric igniters. The clicking was an igniter trying to ignite. All four burners were on, but only one was lit. I turned them all off and opened the window, then went looking for Ben. He was in Daughter’s room with a hammer, which he found who knows where. I took the hammer away and ushered him into the living room.

When I came out of my room with my wallet and the key for the front door, I found him at the stove again, squirting water at a lit burner. JIMINEY CRICKET ON A MOTORSCOOTER!! I freaked and scared him, and it almost turned bad. I was able to dial it back, ask if he was okay, check him over in an exaggerated way, then talk about how scared I was. One of the hardest things with Ben is controlling my reactions. If he feels like someone is angry at him, he reacts with anger of his own. I think it makes him feel insecure, unsure, or hurts his feelings. I don’t know. I only know that if I hadn’t dialed it back, he could have gone OFF! It was already one of those mornings.

Anyway, we got Daughter, came home and did the usual. Ben had asked for chalk before we left, and I’d told him he could have it when we got home from getting Daughter, so I got it for him. A little while later he asked for more, so I got the last forty-eight piece box. We were settled into the calm portion of the morning.

Ben did chalk for a while, then after I cleaned up and cleared a space he set up dominoes, which Zeus kept knocking down. Ben finally got them all set up, then took a snack break and sent me to fetch him a soda. Bless his heart, his legs quit working again.

Around 1:45 Ben started asking for another big box of chalk. I told him when I gave him the forty-eight piece box this morning that it was the last big box. He started telling me to get dressed, go to the store… I told him to knock it off. He grunted, he yelled, I told him to knock it off. I found a five piece Neon pack and gave that to him, but that’s it for chalk. I’ve ordered more but don’t even have a delivery date yet. He’s gonna have to use the chalk he has, or do something else. Daughter got up around 2pm. I’m sure Ben yelling woke her up. She took over Couch Sittin and I got Horizontal. My back was very pleased.

Mr Sven was active again today. He’s such a goof… eating from his hammock, then getting mad at me for taking pictures. He got down and ate more, but got back in his hammock when I tried to take more pictures. Goofy and moody!

For today’s Lurve offering for Paula I chose my daughters. These are pictures of pictures so the quality isn’t great. Obviously these Loves arent in any particular order. I do love my daughters more than my ink, or Eeyore. Older on the left, Younger on the right, both pictures.

I’m going to end early today. Relax, maybe doze a little before the evening routine. Tomorrow is a big day! The return of the GLYSB!! I gotta wrassle the octopus aka wash Ben’s hair tonight. The past few times I’ve done it he was mellow, but I’ve got a feeling about tonight…

Reading a couple Song Lyric Sunday posts brought this song to mind.

Short Skirt/Long Jacket – Cake

Another crazy morning, followed by some chill. I expect that tomorrow morning will be kinda crazy too cuz it’s Glorious Little Yellow School Bus Day! If you listen closely around 7:30am PST, you just might hear me whoopin’ and hollerin’, no matter how far away you are. I was a thespian in school, I can project! My plans for tomorrow include being Horizontal and listening to silence. Of course before and after school things will be as Cuckoo as they always are. Plus Zeus and Sven will still be here. Mr Murphy laughs at my plans. I guess we’ll see… ¡Hasta mañana!

    1. Thanks Jim! I’m Angie. Ben is the King of our house. He’s autistic so we’ve adapted ourselves to make home as easy as possible for him. 😂
I love music and used to do SLS when your predecessor (I can’t remember her name) ran it. I look forward to joining in again soon. Ben is finally going back to school two days a week, so I’m hoping to have more free time.🤞

      1. I have read a lot of your posts Angie, as we seem to write in a lot of the same challenges, but I was not aware of your grandson Ben. thanks for explaining that. I took over this challenge when Helen Vahdati got sick and I am not sure if she ever recovered, which is sad because she was such a nice lady.

    1. Thanks, Robyn! I like that… “Cute babies turned into smart ladies!!” I love the picture with Younger as a baby. 4 months old on her 1st camping trip. Older doesn’t look thrilled, does she?😂 I think after 4 months, she was tired of having a baby sister😂😂
I’m excited for the GLYSB, but I’m too tired to get really excited🙄🤦🏼‍♀️😂
The stove… Ben is a pyro. He LOVES fire. He set all the papers on the side of the fridge on fire once. He was spraying water at the flames to watch them flare and move. I need to hide that spray bottle for a while🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
I’m gonna dance up the driveway, and straight into my room!👋🚍💃🏼🛌😂💕

    1. Instead of “the shot heard round the world” it’ll be the “whoop heard round the world”😂😂 👋🚍💃🏼
I’m going to try really hard not to do errands or chores during the time he’s at school🙄🤦🏼‍♀️😂💕🦋🌻🦜✨

  2. The stove incident was scary! I hope Ben realizes how dangerous it is.
Great pics, and so nice of all you avian friends to drop by to say hello and cheer you up. I hope it goes well tonight and tomorrow morning! 🚌

    1. Thank you, Sadje! The night part went okay… so far (knock on wood) I hope he doesn’t wake up too early!🤞
He doesn’t understand about fire. Or he kinda knows it’s dangerous, but likes to watch it very much and has poor impulse control. He set all the papers and stuff on the side of the fridge on fire once.🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
He does well unsupervised for a while, then does something like this. I should’ve known, he was being too quiet. That’s usually a bad sign.😂
Hope you’re still healing well and you have a great Monday!🤞💕🌻🤗🥰

  3. Beautiful girls! Great song! HI SVEN!!!

Oh, I did the stoplight/stop sign confusion float 15 years ago… luckily no one was around. Except one of my girls in the car to mock me 🤣

    1. I had both girls in the car the first time I did it. It was like 11:30pm on a Sunday night and no one was around. Younger and I were picking Older up from her job at Pizza Hut. About 15 years ago, actually… too funny!
They still give me a hard time about it😂

    1. Very true! Ben just doesn’t get cause and effect, and he has horrible impulse control. I hope it’s something he’ll gain as he matures. 12 year old boys in general aren’t great at impulse control from my experience 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️😂😂 autism just adds another level.
Sheesh! No wonder we’re so tired… sleeping with one eye open all the time.
YAY!! New song! It’s actually an old song.

      Here’s a brand spankin new one… odd socks, see?😉😂😂💌💌💌
