Part 349 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

The chill at the Casa continued through sunset. Ben watched Walking Dead with Daughter, on her laptop, and ate his steak.

Meds, bath and bedtime were a little later than on a work or school night, but only by a half hour or so.

After The Boys were settled, I had to go back to Vons to pick up meds for Ben. Daughter didn’t tell me he had a prescription waiting when I’d done grocery shopping earlier. When I got there, the pharmacist said it wasn’t ready, some kind of billing thing. I called Daughter to see how much we actually had. She counted and said we had enough to get through his morning dose on Thursday. I relayed this to the pharmacist, and explained that some of the meds were at his school. She did some kind of override or something, and “loaned” me twenty tablets. Hopefully the billing issue will be sorted before those run out.

As I walked in the door at home, Daughter handed me her phone, with a website open, and told me to pick a new phone. Ummm… okay. I wasn’t really ready to do it that second, but I started looking. Then Daughter says “ya know… you’re probably going to have to order from your account.” Yep! That makes sense. So I signed into my account and ordered a new phone. They didn’t have any cases for that phone, so Daughter ordered one from Amazon. At first she was going to order me a purple case, and I was like No! I like purple well enough, and amethyst is my birthstone, but a purple phone case just isn’t me. Red, black, blue, grey, even some greens or yellow… purple, not so much. Anyway, the new phone and case (black or grey, I forgot which) should arrive Thursday.

Then it was some Stuff, and a few Things, food, pill, and I was in that sweet, drifting off spot around 11:30pm, when I got Bounced by Zeus. I didn’t hear Ben at first, but then he was standing in my doorway, holding Oreos, saying “Gramma??” I pushed Zeus away from my ear, got up, and escorted Mr Munchies, and the Big Dumb one, back to his room. Daughter had gone to sleep already, and Ben very rarely goes to her room anyway.

It took me a little while to get comfortable again, and just as I did, Sophie Cat came back in. She was so very happy that I’d banished The Boys that she was purr, purr, purring… and rubbing her face all over mine, and head-butting me. She walked across my side and shoulder, then finally laid down… on my head. Ummm… NO! I slowly and gently (claws) pushed her off my head, and she resettled against my back.

I woke up a bunch of times, mostly from Sophie laying on top of me and causing me pain. I woke around 5am and considered getting up to enjoy the quiet, then pulled the blankets closer and went back to sleep. The med alarm woke me at 6:30am, and I turned it off. No Zeus, no Ben… no need to get up.

I heard The Boys exit Ben’s room at 7am, felt the bedquakes followed by sniffing of Zeus joining me, and heard Daughter calling out to Ben. I dozed, then Ben Bounced me around 7:20am, asking for “a big box of chalk. … Please.” I tried to talk him into playing with the perfectly good chalk from the two big boxes (and one small box) he got Tuesday, after school. He just kept repeating big box of chalk, and I know when I’m beat, so I got up, got the chalk for him, and tipped over the bucket with Tuesday’s chalk so he could see the big pieces. Then I went to hide in the baΓ±o.

I uncovered Sven on my way out, and he was awake-ish, and in his usual grumpy mood. Maybe he wasn’t grumpy, maybe he just has the reptile version of RBF.

I got my coffee, thanked the Coffee Dragon, then went back to my room to go through my email, check the news, yadda yadda yadda… until 8:30am when it was time for my walk.

There were lots of clouds, but lots of blue sky too, when I left the house. It was breezy, and becoming windy as I walked. The two mile walk took thirty-four minutes today cuz I stopped a bunch of times to take pictures.

Ben was still doing his chalk thang, Sven hadn’t moved, and Zeus was so happy to see me, cuz I’d been gone SOOO long, that he was doing the whiney wiggle. I changed back into my PJs and got more coffee, and finished with email, paid some bills… took it easy.

Daughter had a Zoom with Ben’s med doctor at 10am, so she went to her room to do it. She asked if I was gonna go to the living room, and I told her not unless HRH Commands it, which he didn’t. After the meeting which resulted in “no changes”, she went back to Couch Sittin and Ben came and joined me, with a bag of chips and his tablet.

Ben was back and forth. He even went outside with the umbrella to stand in the rain. Yeah, it started raining around 10:30am. We even had thunder a few times. Yesterday it was sunny and warm, with no clouds at all, and today we have a thunderstorm. I hope it blows away as quickly as it came in. I’m happy to have some humidity, but sheesh! how about something in the middle?!

No work for Daughter tonight, no GLYSB for Ben tomorrow, no stress about keeping to a time schedule. No sunset for me tonight either. That’s okay, it’s in keeping with my day of doing nothing, with the exception of my walk. I’d like to be like Sven. He’s been sleeping most of the day, and the only thing he’s moved is his eyes. Lucky reptile!

A blast from the past. I knew the song but only recently discovered the video. Good song, funny video. Enjoy!

Dashboard – Modest Mouse

I’m glad I got my walk in before the storm blew in. I don’t know if my enthusiasm and resolve are strong enough to fight against cold rain and wind. I am a spoiled SoCal “delicate flower”. Daughter goes back to work tomorrow night, but the only thing on the agenda during the day is my walk. I hope the rain is gone by then. My new phone and case should be coming tomorrow too. Maybe I can finally start using the camera I got at Christmas.

  1. Pretty pictures from your walk! I hate it when the weather comes in and makes my exercise difficult. I had that happen with all this snow – which is melting but still all over the place. My fingers are crossed that the rain ends and you get your special time tomorrow!
Sounds like a nice chill day overall. Here is hoping tomorrow brings you another one of those with a new phone!

    1. I’m kinda afraid of my new phone and it hasnt even come yet. I started off looking at the least expensive phones with 32G of memory. Daughter said “No, get 64G or 128G” I looked and the price went up, up, UP. I said something about the price and she told me to forget the price. So I gulped and picked a phone. We use android and I’m sure apple phones are more expensive but I’m used to paying around $150-$200 for a decent phone. My new phone (I can’t even remember what it is… blocking it, probably πŸ€ͺ) was $350😲 It’s probably going to take me weeks to figure it outπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
I hope the snow melts and stays away so you can get outside too!πŸ€žπŸ’•πŸŒΊ

  2. I feel so fortunate that my cats don’t climb on me. They never lap sit and in bed Tommy (the only one who can climb up) just lays near my head and purrs. When he does this, I fall asleep so easily.

    1. The purring IS very relaxing and I don’t mind her laying next to me. She likes to lay on my hip, and that adds more pressure to my other hip (I’m a side sleeper). She’s not a big cat, only 7-ish pounds, but it’s enough to hurt.
Even when I move her, she waits til I’m asleep and climbs back upπŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

  3. Your walking is going great and I love the pictures along the way. The geranium in that hedge is so pretty. Here, geranium is a potted plant annual! I’ve had luck getting it to overwinter a few times if the weather is mild but not often.
A new phone on the way, that’s exciting! Have fun with it! πŸŽΆπŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸŒ·πŸ¦„πŸŒΊπŸˆπŸΆπŸΈπŸ˜Hugs! πŸ€—β€οΈ

    1. We can grow just about anything except super heat-sensitive plants. I was thinking of you, and readers in other parts of the country and world, and how these plants are common to me, but might be cool for others to see.
      I’m glad you enjoy them.πŸ€—πŸ₯°πŸŒΊπŸ’•πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ¦‹

  4. Yay, new phone! I’m always excited at new tech!
It was great that you got your walk in before the rain came. No fun walking in the rain. I hope it keeps on improving your sleep!
Very nice shots from the walk. I hope the chill continues and you have a restful night. Hugs!

    1. Thank you, Sadje! I’m sorta scared of the phone TBH. I got a pretty big upgrade.😲 It’s probably going to take me a week at least to figure everything out.πŸ˜‚ I got another Samsung, so at least I’ll be a little bit familiar with it πŸ˜‰πŸ€ͺ
The Guessers say the rain is ending tonight. I hope they’re right🀞 I used to walk in winter rain, but I was in excellent condition then. Definitely not excellent anymore. Not yetπŸ˜‰
      Have a great Thursday, Sadje!πŸ’«πŸ’πŸ€—πŸ₯°πŸŒˆπŸ¦‹πŸŒΊ

    1. Sometimes my YouTube feed gives me a present. Reminding me of that Modest Mouse song was a gift. So much great music, I forget until something reminds me… “oh yeah! I love that song”πŸŽΆπŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ˜‚
I hope my new phone doesn’t have so many bells & whistles that I can’t figure out how to use itπŸ€ͺπŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ I figured getting another Samsung will make it easier. It’s what I have now.πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€ž

    1. New tech takes forever to set upπŸ™„πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ I am excited to have sooooo much more memory. And hopefully the annoying glitches I was having with my old phone are a thing of the past 🀞
      Plus… new emojis πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ˜‚πŸ’ŒπŸ’ŒπŸ’Œ

  5. Glad all is well there and you got back into your pajamas after you got home. I love that.
Now that i have chickens to let out of the coop every morning, I rarely stay in pajamas. And turns out our ScoobyDoobieDoo is a rooster πŸ”. I’m bummed! I don’t want to say goodbye to any of them especially Scooby. He’s a doll. So gentle and sweet. Only cockadoodledoos during the day so far.
More drama, but will save for later.

    Nighty night
