Part 362 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

I braved the palm tree bending wind to take pictures of sunset. Does that make me dedicated or an idjit?

The time change is still throwing me off. Moving Ben’s meds, and bath time is good for him, and will ultimately be less stress for us when Daughter has work, but it cuts into my evening routine, and discombobulates me. I managed to muddle through and The Boys were settled a little after 8pm.

I was finishing my Stuff and Things around 9:45pm when Younger texted that she wanted to come by on her way home from work to get her mail. She’d gotten a package too. She said I could just leave it in the mailbox, but I told her I’d be up for a while still, I hadn’t even eaten yet.

She arrived around 10:15pm. I gave her the stuff, then asked if she wanted to read The Letter. She declined, which surprised me. I figured out through talking to her more that she was hurt that he’d written to me, not her. That she hadn’t heard from him in a long time and it hurt. I told her that in part of the letter, he wrote that the woman he’d had a relationship with off and on over the past twelve years told him that Younger blocked him. He had no way of knowing it wasn’t true.

That explained at LOT to Younger and made her feel a little better about the relationship with her dad, but also worse for him, and angry at the woman. Anyway… some tears, lots of hugs, and she left to go let her dog out. I ate, took my pill and konked between 11:30pm and midnight.

At 4am I got BOUNCED! Ben was ADHD SpazmaTaz from 4am til 6am. He goofed with Zeus, he messed with me, he was loud… I must’ve told him to Settle Down at least fifty times in those two hours. NOT how I wanted to start my day.

I got up at 6am out of irritation. I couldn’t handle the bedquakes and the noise anymore. I went and hid in the baΓ±o. My Velcro Dog had to lay in front of the bathroom door, and Ben had to follow. He was hitting Zeus with a small pillow, and the Big Dummy wouldn’t get up and move away from him.

I heard Ben run off down the hall, so I figured it was safe to exit. Daughter was on the couch looking cross eyed and grumpy. I guess Ben had treated her to a Bouncing wakeup. Ben was also on the couch, calm and quiet. I guess he’d fulfilled his mission and could take a break. Little Bootyhead!

I went to let Zeus out the side door, but he wouldn’t go out until I went out. I should’ve just let him suffer with a full bladder, the Big Dummy, but I went outside. I went out a few times to take pictures.

Happy Dancing was at 7:29am PDT again. I was inside, and got the notification… I’d seen enough of Ben this morning, I didn’t need to wait for the GLYSB. I did get a kiss before he went out to wait.

After Happy Dancing, and going out to take the last couple pictures, I got more coffee, and went to get Horizontal… email and WP awaited.

When the alarm for my walk went off I did the same thing I did yesterday… snooze once, then off. I didn’t manage to kick my butt into gear until after 10am. I was cold, tired and lazy. I hope it’s warmer on Thursday morning. Daughter goes back to work tomorrow night, and she’ll want to sleep Thursday morning.

Anyway, I did the same two miles in thirty-four minutes today. I stopped for pictures a few times.

When I got home Daughter told me she was doing laundry. She figured we could drop the clothes at the dryers, then go pick up her paystub copies from the Skilled Nursing Facility she worked at prior to the hospital. She needs the paystubs to appeal the decision by SSI to cut Ben’s money by half, and also the Eight Thousand Dollars they say she owes in overpayment. She didn’t want to walk the mile to the facility then walk the mile back. IRONY!

I got Horizontal and attempted to go through email and WP… again. I got the email done and part of the WP. Just before 1pm Daughter was ready to go. So we loaded the clothes into the car, and drove them across the street to the laundromat. She put them into dryers while I went next door to 7-11 to break a twenty. Then back to get quarters and feed the dryers. The laundromat was busy!

Back to the car and onward to her old workplace. There were two big signs on the building… “NOW HIRING” and “HEROES WORK HERE” I guess the admin staff think they’re heroes cuz they’re apparently short on medical staff. Anyway, she got her paystub copies, and we headed home.

Ben was scanned onto the bus at 1:25pm PDT again. They’re cheating us out of five minutes. Those minutes matter! He got home at 1:45pm again, and headed outside again. I didn’t mind the rerun of yesterday… Monday was a pretty good day, Tuesday copying was absolutely okay with me!

I had to go get the clothes at 2pm. There was someone new working… a dude! The laundromat had cleared out during the previous hour, and there was only one other person there, so I could assume dude was working. Also, the dustmop he was pushing around was a big clue. I grabbed the clothes and headed back home.

After folding and putting away my stuff and Ben’s stuff, I got into my sloppies, finally (I’d been wearing my “public” clothes since I’d gone walking) and got Horizontal. Ben finished playing with mud and wet chalk and came inside to play with the box of twenty-four he’d snagged from Daughter’s room this morning.

Around 3:30pm he came into my room, got on my bed, leaned over me and said “Gramma?” I asked him what he needed, already knowing the answer. He said “I want ‘nother box chalk, please.” So I got him ‘nother box.

The sunset being later is still throwing me off. I see the time creeping toward 5pm and think sunset will start soon, but now it doesn’t start until after 6pm. Ben’s schedule is later too. No wonder time feels so slippery lately.

I have a question for you… after I end the daily, when I do a new Adventures post should I number it #366, or something like 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc. or just give them subject matter titles, like “Spring Equinox”? I can’t decide.

I saw Heart in 1985. I’ve always loved this song!

Dog and Butterfly – Heart

Ridiculous morning and a chill afternoon. Life at Casa Cuckoo keeps us on our toes. Daughter goes back to work tomorrow night, but as far as I know, we have zero plans for the day until then. I hope it’s true. I’d really like to do my Sloth impersonation. Maybe Ben will sleep until a decent time too. I think the rain is finally over. Maybe the temperature will rise into the sixties. Anything is possible.

  1. Ugh! I hope that thing with the paystubs, overpayment, and cut payment works out. I used to be a social worker and I remember trying to deal with Social Security and how frustrating it can be. Right now I am still dealing with a $500 medical bill for Declan from 2 YEARS AGO where the insurance companies aren’t communicating, and when I asked each to communicate with each other, they “weren’t allowed.” I’m waiting for round whatever when the bill comes again and is still unresolved. So frustrating!
Great job getting out there again today! The time change is seriously messing with me too, although I think things are getting a little better for me. I am just so tired at night from getting up what I feel is “early.” Hopefully we all get on schedule soon!
Good luck tonight and I hope you have an awesome day tomorrow!

    1. I’m really only having trouble in the evenings and at night, since “morning” starts whenever Ben decides it starts, and I’m used to getting up before the SunπŸ€ͺ We’ll see how things go with Driving Miss Daisy tomorrow night. I’m glad we started changing Ben’s evening routine before the time change. I just wish whatever is going on with his sleep would resolve. It’s all over the place!
Enjoy your days of freedom!πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ₯³πŸŽ‰ I hope ours come soonπŸ€žπŸ’•

  2. I think 2.1 would look cool! Then you can go to count how many more adventures you want to record.
4:00 in the morning is probably translating to 3:00 at night in actual time. 😱You need more sleep. I hope it goes smoothly tonight. Take care and don’t overdo in the name of science 😍πŸ₯°β€οΈ

    1. Yeah, I tried not to think about the 3am partπŸ₯±πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ His sleep has really been all over the place and his doctor wants to “monitor and document”πŸ™„ She’s very conservative, which is good. One of Ben’s meds is an anti-psychotic, so I understand and appreciate her being careful… but monitoring and documenting isn’t helping him sleep better.
      Thanks for your input too!πŸ’•πŸŒ»πŸ¦‹πŸ’πŸ€—πŸ₯°

      1. Being conservative with sleep meds is good, specially in a child. But you need sleep too. I’d catch up during the day if got so less sleep.
Take care my friend. The photos were lovely.

    1. Thanks for answering πŸ₯° You’re pretty good at the clever titles.
I got about 6 hours last night. It might’ve been better if I wasn’t a cat bed all nightπŸ™„ but, I’m not gonna complain about 6 hours. It was daylight when I woke up 😲πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰πŸ’šπŸ€

  3. I love that song too πŸŽΆπŸΆπŸ¦‹. The pictures are so pretty. I love that lavender is blooming there! The azaleas took a big hit with the subzero temperatures last month. They have a few blooms right along the ground. It looks funny as the rest of the plant looks dead. It’s not. It’ll just take a while to pop out. A flock of birds always mesmerizes me – how do they not bump into each other. I’ve read about it before but it still amazes me the way they manage it. Hugs! πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ€—β€οΈ

    1. I don’t usually see the little ones all together like that. I don’t even know what kind they were. They were really high up. I always wonder what the Secret Signal is that makes them all take off together. I’ve watched the Parrots all just whoosh into the sky at once, and 2 or 3 seconds later, they’re gone. SOOO fast!
      Nature is so cool!!πŸ₯°πŸ’«
I’m glad your flowers are survivors!πŸŒ»πŸ’πŸŒΊ
Lavender grows really easy here. Actually, just about everything grows easy here. We only freeze or frost a few times in the winter. It’s the heat that gets a lot of plants. But weather is getting weirder. We may not be able to grow as many things ☹

  4. I’m a bit torn with the new “formula” for your blog-post titles as well. The numbering thing is kind of fun, and it does give the posts a bit of inherent structure. At the same time, clever and creative post titles are very satisfying as well. But it’s not always easy to be clever and creative, especially when you’re pressed for time. (After all, I have 588 stories in my archives named “Past Imperfect – #XXX”. I certainly won’t be winning any creativity awards for THOSE titles.)

End of day, and this is just me, I think I would go with fresh, un-numbered titles for your one-off posts, where you talk about whatever suits you that day. But on those days where you’re not feeling inspirational and just want to record the events of the day as you have been for a year now (gasp!), you can just pick up the sequence again. Mix things up.

Still and all, I wouldn’t stress too much about a strategy. We just want to hear from you, so it really doesn’t matter what the titles might be.

P.S. “Dog & Butterfly” is one of those songs that resonated with me as a child. I didn’t really get ALL of it, but I got most, and it gave me comfort that there was much more in this world than what might happen in an Oklahoma town…

    1. I can’t imagine how hard it must’ve been growing ⁢ in a small town. I do understand wanting a bigger, freer life. I don’t remember this song from my childhood. The song that I remember most is Sir Elton with Someone Saved Me Life Tonight.
Interesting that they both had flutterbysπŸ¦‹

    1. Thank you! πŸ’• we expected the cut, but the overpayment seems a bit steep. It will get sorted. They can take $50 a month until it’s paid off. They can’t expect us to come up with extra money when we need their money to help care for Ben to begin with.
      Government agencies are a mess!πŸ™„
