The Monday Peeve ~ E-mail

Paula invites us to share a thing that irritates, bugs, or generally chases away the rainbow barfing unicorns in our lives. Besides, a rant just feels good, amiright?!

Before I start my Peeve, I want to acknowledge how excited I am to participate this week. I’m thankful to everyone who followed my Adventures, but I’m happy to be able to do other stuff now. Onward to the rantin’…

How the Hello Kitty did I wind up on so many mailing lists? Why must these businesses email Every. Single. Day? I have unsubscribed so many times, but either it doesn’t work and unsubscribing is a big fake out, or my email address is up on the bathroom wall with Jenny’s number.

I have to go through my email several times a day to delete them all, and the notifications are always going off with new ones. I understand that businesses took a hit with the Kootie, but sending me an email, sometimes several emails, is not going to make me buy something. And no, I don’t wanna download your app either.

Then, if I actually DO buy something, which is probably how I got on the dang mailing list, they have to send a gajillion emails… we got your order, we’re looking at your order, we’re processing your order, we’re filling your order, we expect (courier service) to pick up your order soon, (courier service) has picked up your order… then the courier service (UPS, FedEx, USPS) has to send ten thousand updates, which are rarely correct.

I appreciate being informed, but enough is enough! Too many dag-nabbit emails!

😡

  1. Mark it as spam. It should automatically go to your spam folder in your email. I have it set up so that it doesn’t delete daily but weekly which gives me a chance to scan the spam just in case something of pertinence ended up in there.

    1. I thought about sending them to spam but was afraid I’d miss something. Most of it is from places I’ve bought chalk.
I didn’t even think about scanning the spam🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ Sheesh! I have some glaringly huge stoopid spots in my smarts. Thank you!🥰

  2. Oh, I hate those! I get a ton of those too and they are super annoying. Also all the phone calls I get from “Unknown Number.” Half the time they are trying to extend my car warranty (for a car I don’t even have anymore) or it is a call from either a “creditor” or some government organization like the “IRS” telling me if I do not call and update my info legal action will be taken against me. Both are scams – but really, just stop calling me!!

    1. Yeah, I get the warrantee ones, and the “IRS” ones too. I’m even registered on the “do not call list”.
Those “IRS” ones bother me a LOT! I think of elderly people not understanding what a scam it is☹
I keep blocking the numbers, and they keep calling from new ones.🙄
      Happy GLYSB Day!🥳💃🏼🌞💕

    1. It gets so annoying! Why have the “unsubscribe” if it doesn’t work. Sometimes I think my name must be on the lists multiple times.
Sheesh! I just got another as I am typing this!🤦🏼‍♀️
      🤗🥰💫💐🦋

    1. One place is a craft store. It might be a national chain… Michael’s. They seriously email me 2 or 3 times a day!😡 Why can’t they just be content with the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on chalk and quit bugging me?!🤯😤

  3. You’ve spotlighted why I change email addys on a probably more than necessary basis. Getting rid of all that %#!$ spam is a blessing! The only downside now is making sure the necessary emails get to my new address… sigh it’s never easy, this electronic stuff. Best wishes with your own battle with the world, the chalk and everything! I hope you continue posting your evening journal of photos of the sunsets and the birds and your peaceful backyard! I’ll miss seeing Sven and Zeus acting goofy too!

    1. Maybe I’ll do a weekend pictures post or something🤷🏼‍♀️ I was really getting burnt out on the Adventures, and when I did the 365th I was relieved. That tells me it was the correct decision to stop.
I know people like seeing Sven and his grumpy glares, and Dogzilla, so I will find a way to satisfy their fans😉😂
And of course, when sunset is super pretty I’ll have to share the dozens of pictures 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤣 it’s been clear skies lately. Pretty, but nothing I haven’t shown a bunch of times already.💕

  4. Hahah, excellent – l hear you though 🙂 Gmail and l have a funny relationship, l have too many emails hitting my inbox even with filters established for spam and pending , makes no difference. It took me ages just to finally get WP to understand l didn’t want to receive notiications and yet despite everything switched off … still l get emails. Good rant.

    1. I’m marking them as “spam” for now as Claudette suggested. I have the auto-delete off. I go through my spam every few days anyway, so we’ll see if that helps.
I finally GET my notifications and I’m inundated with email notifications. Just proves the old saying “be careful what you wish for…” 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤣

      1. We live in a worlf of 5 billion email addresses and apparently that equates to roughly 300 billion emails daily which is reputed to increase to nearly 400 million daily in the next few years …………. l am at that point that receiving more than 30 emails daily is way too many emails and WP in my world needs to be switched off as quickly as possible 🙂

  5. Right there with you on this. And I can’t teach my computer it’s all spam because someday in the distant future I’m going to order something from Old Navy and I’ll actually want that email

    1. Right, but I can do a quick skim of my spam box before I send it to trash, where it can sit until the trash empties, then an IT person can find the incriminating evidence of my chalk overspending anyway. 🤣🤣
At least I won’t have to clean my in-box 15 times a day🤦🏼‍♀️ and the notifications won’t irritate the dog snot out of me😉

  6. I get them for petitions. Petition after petition for good causes. I have to sign them – though I’m no longer sure petitions work considering there are so many nowadays. What do I get for my good deed? Yep, more petitions! 🙂

    1. Oh, I got those for a while… and political stuff. I worked hard to get rid of those.
Yes, I believe in the causes, but there must be a better way to affect change. And I get the need for the requests, but I can I only make so many donations… even if it’s just $1🤦🏼‍♀️

    1. I’m trying the “spam” experiment that Claudette suggested. We’ll see how it goes. It’s been difficult to mark them as “spam”🤪🤷🏼‍♀️
I’m too nice about the dumbest things. It wasn’t hard to just delete them, unread. But sending them to the naughty folder seems unfair🤣 I’m such a dork!🙄🤦🏼‍♀️💌💌💌

  7. First, I am right there on the soapbox with you, hollering away. When I clicked on “unsubscribe”, that’s what I meant!

Second, our home phone is even worse. Somehow our number has been shared with every telemarketer on the entire planet. It rings a good 30 times a day and, generally, every single one of those calls is pointless and unnecessary.

Third, and this is getting a bit trivial, and you may or may not know that I worked for Verizon/GTE for decades. Back in the day (WAY back), when I used to process service orders, we used a database that had all the phone numbers assigned to our company, giving the status (working, available, whatever) and there was a field that allowed comments.

One day, on a whim, I checked the status of 867-5309, since that prefix was one that we owned. (Plano, Texas, ya’ll!) The number was blocked from release to any customer, and there was a single word in the comment field: “Jenny”.

I wet myself a little bit and giggled for at least an hour. It’s the small things that get me through…

    1. I remember all the people who had that number before the song was released going on the news complaining about all the calls. 😂😂 I admit calling it, just like everyone else did. It was blocked in the San Diego area fast!
