I figured it was about time to let you all know what’s been going on during my first FULL week of GLYSB time. I’ve been lurking in your comments, but I know you guys are devastated at the lack of photos. I’m here to correct that failure of mine.
Ben had a good week at school… mostly. On Tuesday he bit a staff member who was holding a gate closed. His school is supposed to be completely locked down, with the gates needing a code to EXIT. That’s to keep “runners” or “elopers” like Ben from taking off and running amok in the neighborhood. Daughter got the email, so I don’t know why it was necessary for a staff member to hold the gate closed, but on the bright side, Ben had all his shots, so the person doesn’t have to worry about rabies or turning into a vampire.
He also forgot his Kittys at school one day (maybe it was the same day?) so he was a little upset about that. Luckily his teacher was able to find them, and make sure they were safe. I’ve looked into the availability and cost of replacing his favorite, Pink Kitty, which isn’t a Hello Kitty, but some Special Edition “Emily” Kitty, and would cost around $100.00 to replace. Yikes!
Other than that, he did well at school, and was pretty chill at home too. I didn’t notice an increase in “Free Time” though. In fact, I seem to be having trouble scheduling my time, and I’m getting less done. I don’t know what the problem is, but I’ll be trying to figure it out.
I am still walking every day, getting my two miles or more in. It’s a habit now, so I haven’t had to push myself to do it. I usually walk in the morning, but there isn’t a specific time during the week. On weekends, when Daughter works, I’ll still need to go early so she can sleep.
Some pictures from my walks. The little lizard was super fast, and very skittish, but he stopped and gave me side-eye, just like Sven. Maybe lizards just think I look ridiculous or something?
I haven’t spent as much time in the living room, but I still paparazzi Mr Grumpy several times a day. Here’s your Sven Fix…
The sunsets have been pretty mellow. And the sunrises have been mostly overcast. We’ve had actual Spring weather. It’s been wonderful! The Pecan Tree is finally budding, and getting greener every day.
I found out on that sky map site I use, that my old friends Jupiter and Saturn are visible just before sunrise. I actually caught them, with the Moon on the one clear day.
And some sunset pictures. I see a few Parrots once in a while, and sometimes Pheobe comes to visit, but I haven’t seen Gulls in a while. They must be busy with babies.
I had an appointment with my Primary Care Physician this morning. It’s very convenient to have him next door, and I love that he practices out of a house. Anyway, according to his scale, my weight is 163 pounds, which is a loss of two pounds from my last pump fill, but I’m gonna wait and see what the scale at the pain doc shows.
My PCP had no problem taking over the prescription for my sleeping med, even though it’s a benzodiazapine. He also wrote me a prescription for a medication to help with my plaque psoriasis, so YAY! My blood pressure, which has run high forever was 107/72. That’s super low for me, but on the low side of “normal”.
He wasn’t bothered about my weight. It’s a perfectly acceptable weight for my height, and I’m generally healthy, so maybe I need to quit stressing on how I look too thin. I’m still going to keep trying to put more weight on, and keep trying to rebuild my atrophied muscles. I’m finally seeing some firming up in my legs.
And on a final note, a completely bit of random good luck. Today’s walk was after my doctor’s appointment, and I walked up to Vons to pick up a prescription for Ben. While I was there, I asked if they had a Wait List for the vaccine, in case someone canceled or something. They did, and I added my name. I’ve been trying to find an appointment since April 1, when the 50+ age group was made eligible. Not madly searching, but looking.
Anyway, I got Ben’s meds, went next door to the pet store to get worms for Mr Grumpy, went to another store and got some Reese’s Eggs, YUM!, and a couple boxes of sixteen piece chalk, then walked home.
About an hour later Vons pharmacy called to say they had an extra dose, could I come back in at 1:30pm. Darn Skippy, I certainly could, and did. I have received my first shot of the Pfizer vaccine, and get my second shot on April 30 (someone’s birthday…😉)
How random and lucky was that?! Daughter is super stoked that I got shot. She worries. Younger was congratulatory as well, but doesn’t worry as much.

I just hope I don’t have the horrible reaction to the 2nd dose that Daughter had. So far, I don’t even have pain from the shot🤷🏼♀️
I’ve read that us “older” peeps don’t have the same immune response as young whipper-snappers. Everything gets worn out and tired🙄💕🦋

I had a yucky reaction to shot one (super achy, tired, slight fever), but nothing but a sore arm for shot two. I got the Pfizer.

Daughter had a sore arm from 1st, then major reaction to 2nd. I have a feeling I’m not gonna react to either🤷🏼♀️ The psoriasis is caused by an overactive immune system, so I think my body is just always in hyperdrive, and doesn’t notice this new thing as a big deal😂😂

I hope it works too. It’s a cancer drug that suppresses immunity, so now that I’m half vaxed, I need to wait to take it. I take like 5 pills at once, on a Saturday (or whatever day).

Hey Angie, congratulations on getting your first shot. It nice to read how life is in your casa. Kudos for walking daily. I’ve noticed that when we think we are going to have some free time, it just evaporates. 🤪

I hope school stays open too. 🙏 The teacher should all be vaccinated by now, at least their 1st shot, and the older students too. It’s a small population at his school. Only about 10 kids in a class, so I’m cautiously optimistic. San Diego County just moved into Orange tier… we’re doing okay. We had the variants back in January, so… cautiously optimistic.

It’s probably starting here on Wednesday. We all are being careful. My husband has had both his shots and I and my daughter had one each. Hopefully by the end of this month we all would have built up the immunity.
I think online school is a better option because of heat and disease spread.

I got my first shot today too. It’s actually 2 weeks before I’m eligible, but someone with connections wanted to do something nice for Susan so I took it. A few hours later I was horribly agitated and pretty anxious. Not sure if it’s related. I’m happy yo be on my way. Thinking I had covid a couple of weeks ago made me pretty nervous about the virus. Hope you feel fine tomorrow.

My main reason for wanting to get it is a concert in July🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m hoping it won’t get canceled again. I figure if it’s on, a vaccine card or a negative test will be required.
Try not to stress on it. Us older folks don’t have as robust a reaction… even our immune systems get tired and worn out😉

Hiya! Yeah… the Pecan Tree is another random Casa Cuckoo thing. It wasn’t here when we moved in 10 years ago, and we didn’t plant it, yet there it is… growing through a little deck area. No idea how it got there.🤷🏼♀️🤣

I’ve had both phizer vaccinations and ken had his first moderna. No complications.
Chickens are good and half are laying eggs 🥚! So fun.
Been planting vegetables, growing seeds and having fun hiking.

Daughter planted seeds directly into the ground, and I think she did it too early. It was still cold here. But she has 2 tomatoes sprouted, and a couple onions. We’ll see.

Sounds like you had a pretty awesome day! That was smart to ask to be put on a wait list. I don’t even know of a place near me that has the shots. I think the closest I have heard people having success is in Delaware which is about a half an hour from me.
That’s great news about the doctor too. I had a really good doctor once that I could talk to and she would listen, but then she moved. I haven’t had to go to the doctor too often, but this last time I got my physical – it was so disappointing. She was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. I had so many things I wanted to talk about. When I realized she wasn’t interested I just put my list away. I hate that. Anyway, I am glad you have a good doctor and were able to get your needs addressed without a fuss.

Too many doctors are rushed like that. Some are just rude doctors, but some are victims of our “For Profit” medical system. Sometimes at the pump fill appointments, I don’t even see a doctor. The nurse hunts down someone to sign my prescriptions, while the “procedure” nurse does the pump.
I don’t know how much longer my PCP is going to practice… he’s a pretty old guy. His age, and the fact that it’s just his practice are probably why he’s so old-school.
Since he’s literally next door, I see lot of his patients, an they’re mostly elderly people. I think younger people would be weirded out by seeing a doctor in a house. I love it!
A lot of the chain stores like CVS, RITE AID, even WallyWorld Pharmacy are doing shots.
It gave me a bit of a shock when I read that Delaware is closest. California is so big, all the Western states are, I forget that in the Eastern US, you can drive through several states is a few hours. 😂😂

I was only on the Wait List for about an hour. They called me in and I got my 1st shot. I am officially Half Vaxed😉
Gotta keep smiling so I get “good wrinkles” instead of grumpy, frowny wrinkles😉😂💌💌💌💌

Sounds like the first week of school has been good. I find whenever I think I’ll have loads of time to do stuff, it never quite works like that – you probably need some time to get into a routine. Great news about the vaccination and getting a date for the second dose too! I get mine on 14th – be nice to feel like we’re returning to safer, happier times. 🙂

I think California is behind on vaccinations because they pretty much always do the shots 3 weeks apart.
I’ve read that spacing them further is generally thought to be okay… a slightly reduced effectiveness. And it allows for more people to be at least partially covered. But it’s slower in getting people their 1st shots
I got super lucky that they had an extra dose, and I asked about the wait list.
They’re opening it up to everyone 16 years old and older on the 15th. I’m VERY lucky to have gotten in before then, cuz there are zero appointments. Not enough vaccine coming into the state.

Terrific news on the “surprise” shot, and here’s hoping the second one is a relatively mild event. I can’t recall what all I’ve shared where, so this might be a repeat, but my second shot was relatively smooth. A little tired, a minimal headache (annoying but not really painful) and some tenderness at the injection site. I was back to normal (well, as much as I can be) within 24 hours.
I would LOVE to have a doctor in a cute little house. It just seems like it would be much more personal and relaxed. Speaking of relaxed, I’m glad to see that you’re posting only when the mood hits you. I’m sure part of you misses the daily connections, but it’s also nice to not have the pressure of posting every day, eh?

I’m glad to read that your 2nd shot wasn’t bad. It gives me hope. I just remember how horribly sick Daughter was after the 2nd shot. But I’ve read that we “mature” folks have “less aggressive” immune responses to vaccines. I guess our antibodies wore out with everything else, right?🙄🤦🏼♀️
Of course, Daughter can’t wait to see how I respond since I have an overly aggressive immune system, aka autoimmune disorder, aka plaque psoriasis. I think she’s just secretly hoping I get sick so she has an excuse to call out of work😉😂
It is wonderful to have the pressure off! I actually would like to post more, but time is NOT on my side, no it isn’t… But my To Do list is shrinking, so that’s good. Maybe I can celebrate May Day in a truly bacchanalian manner😉💃🏼🥳

Nah… no new shots🤣🤣, just his regular vaccinations. He had to get his Middle School (🙀) booster last fall when they tried to do on campus teaching for a few weeks. That’s what I meant by “he had all his shots”😆
I have a feeling the person that got bit was being too “stern” or “angry” with Ben. A lot of times he’s just playing and if someone reacts with anger, he gets defensive or confused or even embarrassed and acts out. He’s super, SUPER sensitive to people’s emotions.
I’m just wondering why a gate on a “secure” campus had to be held closed. This school is supposed to be set up so the students can’t get out.🤔
