#SLS ~ Can You Dig It?

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. Head over to Jim’s site for the rules and future prompts. Have a look around while you’re there, you’re gonna find other cool stuff.

The prompt this week is: City, Country, County, State, Town

I had a song jump up and down in my head, yelling “Pick me! Pick me!” And the resident DJ started playing it at the same time. There really was no other choice for me.

From the 1979 soundtrack album for the movie The Warriors, here’s Joe Walsh singing “In The City”.

Somewhere out there on that horizon
Out beyond the neon lights
I know there must be somethin’ better
But there’s nowhere else in sight

It’s survival in the city
When you live from day to day
City streets don’t have much pity
When you’re down, that’s where you’ll stay
In the city, oh, oh.
In the city

I was born here in the city
With my back against the wall
Nothing grows, and life ain’t very pretty
No one’s there to catch you when you fall
Somewhere out on that horizon
Faraway from the neon sky
I know there must be somethin’ better

And I can’t stay another night
In the city, oh, oh.
In the city

The song was written by Joe Walsh and Barry DeVorzon for the movie. Joe Walsh’s band mates (you might know them, they went by the name The Eagles) liked the song so much, they recorded it, and released it on their 1979 album The Long Run.

The reason I know this song is cuz I’m a fan of the movie. Straight from Wiki: The film centers on the titular fictitious New York City street gang who must make an urban journey of 30 miles (48 km), from the north end of the Bronx to their home turf in Coney Island in southern Brooklyn, after they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader. It’s a cheesey, cult movie, but that’s one of my favorite genres.

And because I can, I’m going to share one of my favorite scenes from the movie.

Have you heard this song? Have you seen the movie? Can you dig it?!

    1. Riffs? Yeah! Can you dig it?๐Ÿ˜†๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ Thanks, Jeff! That was fun๐Ÿฅณ

I don’t know if I’ve ever heard The Eagles version of the song. I just know it from the movie, and that’s strictly Joe Walsh. I guess I should hunt down the Eagles version and compare them… see if there’s any difference. ๐Ÿค”

    1. It wasn’t flagged spam. I have my account set up to approve links. I really should switch that off. I was worried about gross stuff getting linked, but I’ve never even had a troll or a troll-ish comment.
I’ve got an awesome group of readers!

    1. Thanks, Jim! We have/had a DVD copy of the movie, but I’m not sure what Ben did with it. It hasn’t been 25 years, but it’s probably been almost 10 years since I’ve seen it. I loved all the different gang costumes. ๐Ÿ˜†

  1. Not a big music person, but good to hear from you.

Just got back from Yosemite. Did lots of hiking. Food is not great and lots of restrictions, but nice to get away.
Back to writing blogs today. Feels good.

Need to go do some baking, although it’s hot today and I want to wait until it’s cooler out.
Chickens are great now that we are back. I don’t think they like it when I’m away.

Yard needs lots of TLC and Andrew just can’t keep up with the daily responsibilities here. Curtis didn’t even offer. Jerk.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

Stupid NBC Universal blocked the Xena & Northern Exposure embeds๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
I have the entirety of Northern Exposure on DVD. A gift from the Daughters. Xena streams here or there occasionally.
      Thanks JB!๐Ÿ’Œ
