#SLS ~ Melted?

The theme this week is – Automobile, Car, Jalopy, Vehicle

I knew what song I wanted to use as soon as I saw the theme. The DJ In My Head started playing it right away. It had to compete with Red Barchetta by Rush, which is also a great song, but I’d already decided.

The song I’ve chosen is Dashboard by Modest Mouse from their 2007 album titled We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. It was the first single released, and it reached #5 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart. It only got to #61 on the Hot 100 chart.

According to Songfacts This song was written the first day Modest Mouse began collaborating with guitarist Johnny Marr, who was not yet an official member of the band. Marr is known for his work with The Smiths. 

Also according to Songfacts, the film Trains, Planes And Automobiles was a likely influence on this song. In the movie, the main characters end up driving in a car that has been set on fire. The radio in the car is one of the few things that still works after the dashboard is melted.

I love the video and it’s such a catchy tune! I love the idea that no matter how bad things get, there’s a positive attitude (The dashboard melted but we still have the radio).

  7. I loved this song and the band. I have so much of their music on my running ipod – such a great sound. The first thing that popped into my mind on this theme was Low Rider by War. I bet that one got picked a lot though! Good choice for you!

  10. Nope. But sitting in one right now waiting to pick up son from Oakland Airport. He went to Vegas to a work convention.

    All is good here. Had a fun birthday week with family and friends. And spent time with the chickens of course. We got them loamy soil for them to roll in. It’s been warm here, but not as hot as usual summer heat. Cools off at night which i like.
    Nothing new w Andrew. He doesn’t do much for peoples bdays. Asked if he could help me in the garden. Lol. He really hates bees 🐝 and it is a huge sacrifice. We’ll see if it happens. He promises lots of stuff and doesn’t deliver.
    Heard a term pathologic demand avoidance. It is probably what he is doing instead of getting a job.

    Gotta go!

    1. I’m glad you had a good birthday and your chickens are happy! I know they make YOU happy, and that’s what matters.

      I hate airport runs! Luckily I very very very rarely have to make them.

      It’s been cooler than usual down here too. It’s been hot, but it IS summer, so 90s is expected. It RAINED here today😲 The weather is really crazy!
