#SLS ~ from Kiss to Green Day

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. Check out Jim’s site for the rules and future prompts. Jim even takes requests, so if you have an idea for a theme, let him know.

The prompt words this week are – Carnival, Festival, Gala, Jamboree, Party

The choice was easy for me this week. I saw Kiss perform this live February 22, 1985, and Green Day did a cover of it during their show last Sunday. (The Green Day video is from this tour, but not the San Diego show)

Rock and Roll All Nite was written by singer/rhythm guitarist Paul Stanley and bass player/backing vocalist Gene Simmons. The song was first released in April 1975 on their Dressed To Kill album. The studio version of the song released on April 2, 1975 peaked at #68 on the Hot 100. A later live version, recorded at Cobo Hall, Detroit on May 16, 1975, was released as a single later in the year. That one eventually reached #12 in early 1976.

Rock and Roll All Nite became Kiss’s signature song and has served as the group’s closing concert number in almost every concert since 1976* (it was the final song of the encore at the 1985 show I saw). In 2008, it was named the 16th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1.

I think just about everyone knows at least the chorus of this song, and it really is a great anthem for having fun. Paul Stanley has said in interviews that “party” isn’t about drugs and/or alcohol… it’s about enjoying life.

You show us everything you’ve got
You keep on dancin’ and the room gets hot
You drive us wild, we’ll drive you crazy
You say you wanna go for a spin
The party’s just begun, we’ll let you in
You drive us wild, we’ll drive you crazy
You keep on shoutin’, you keep on shoutin’

I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day

You keep on saying you’ll be mine for a while
You’re lookin’ fancy and I like your style
You drive us wild, we’ll drive you crazy
You show us everything you’ve got
Baby, baby that’s quite a lot
And you drive us wild, we’ll drive you crazy
You keep on shoutin’, you keep on shoutin’

I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day

*Green Day closes every concert with the same song also, Good Riddance. At least they have the four or five times I’ve seen them over the past twenty years.

What song would you choose for this theme? Have you seen any of your favorite bands live? Thanks for stopping by!

HUGS!!

        1. It’s been Cuckoo as usual🤪 Ben got me up at 1:30am Monday morning, and he’s had a cough and sneezing. He’s vaxxed, but of course any cough raises concerns. No fever though, and he’s been sneezing and occasionally coughing for weeks. I think it’s just allergies and the changing weather, plus the AC units with some chalk dust added in.
He’s staying home from school today (Tuesday) just for another day of rest and monitoring. Taking him to get tested would be a major undertaking cuz of his autistic sensitivities. I doubt he’d cooperate with a nose swab🤪🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ so we haven’t done that yet.

How is everyone in your family doing? Healthy and well I hope🤞💕

          1. I’m sorry that Ben’s sleep pattern hasn’t settled yet. It’s the changing weather that most people get sniffles or mild cough. Over here they want the kids to not come to school if the have any flu like symptoms. And kids here aren’t vaccinated! We all are good, and ready to move again. My daughter has been offered a very good job in another city and I’ll be moving with her till the school is online. Another adventure!

            1. Congrats to your daughter! We should start calling you the “Traveling Grandma”😂

I hope it’s a smaller city with less traffic and your daughter will be able to get to work easily. Your city looked like a driving nightmare.

I’m glad everyone is doing well💕

              1. Well we are moving to the capital, Islamabad. It is smaller and has more civilized traffic as well. I sure am the traveling grandma! Thanks Angie. Take care. It’s great to know how you’re doing! 💖❤️

  1. It’s a great song. In the eighties, one of my local DC faves, Tru Fax and the Insaniacs invited all in attendance who played in a band to come up on the stage. With no introduction they launched into the song and the twenty or so people on stage sang along. One of those magic moments. Oh how I wished I was in a band.

      1. Oh my gosh, we made it out but my town was hit hard. The hardest in our area. I believe FEMA is now involved. We are all volunteering to help neighbors out. So many people have had to be relocated. It is sad – driving through the center of town you just see the insides of everyone’s house out on the curb. People just sitting on their stoops with their front doors wide open and a disaster area within. Or trying to get their cars to work. Schools closed the following day because of the disaster and our high school even flooded. There were videos showing people trying to move the water out of hallways and in the outside lunch area the entire lunch tables were underwater. Dumpsters were being swept away by the water. I kept our sump pump going and buckets roating in our leaky chimney and we made it out fine. I was going to post about it and I may still. It was one heck of a storm!

        1. I’m glad you guys are okay, but how awful for your town☹
Yeah, do the post if you have the time. We’re all jaded on “news media” and you’re awesome at showing the rough parts of life with hope mixed in!

I hope that those affected won’t be displaced for too long. You seem to have a pretty good community and I’m sure you all will help each other out!💕

  2. I remember loving Kiss when I was a kid. Can’t really remember why since I know I used to listen to it with a babysitter…maybe it was the makeup. My best friend and her husband dressed up as members a few years ago for Halloween and they looked quite authentic!

    1. Kiss was huge in the 70s when I was a kid… on lunchboxes, posters, they even had a movie or TV show or something… great marketing 😂 I think it was mostly the makeup and pyrotechnics but the music isn’t bad either😂🎶💃🏼

  3. To be honest, I didn’t really care for Kiss back in their heyday (other than “Beth”; who doesn’t like that one?), and it wasn’t until later that I actually started to appreciate some of their songs. It was the same way with Green Day. I had little interest in them the first few years, but then they released “Good Riddance” (which I realize was a somewhat atypical song for them) and I was intrigued. By the “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” era, I was a fan. I would have loved to have seen “American Idiot” on Broadway, but it never happened…

    1. I was a little late on Green Day myself. I didn’t really get into their music until the late 90s. Seeing them with Daughter in 2002 really cemented my love, though Daughter is the MEGA fan. I’m still trippin on the fact that we’ve been going to see them for TWENTY years😲
Also how sad that American Idiot is possibly even more relevant than it was when it was released☹

You mean the drama of Kiss wasn’t your vibe way back when you were a baby gay in the 70s?? You didn’t have a Kiss lunchbox? 😂😂😂😂
They’d taken off the makeup by the time I saw them. I wasn’t super into them, I just went to every concert my parents would pay for… I’d say “Daaaaad???” and I’d get money😂😂

  4. It’s perfect and that is so neat that GreenDay played it on the tour too. I love Good Riddance. Sounds like a great one to round out a concert. Hugs! 🎶💕🤗🌸🐛🦋☀️🎶☕️

    1. It IS the perfect song, but it makes me kinda sad cuz it means it’s over. After seeing them so many times, whenever I hear the song I think “awww dang! All over ☹” They did a fireworks display after Billie Joe finished the song, which was pretty, but makes me sad for all the animals & humans who are disturbed by the bangs.

Gosh, I really AM a Pisces, swimming off in opposite directions at the same time🤪😂😂😂

    1. It was fun to be at a concert again, although my poor body can’t take a four band show anymore.
I was surprised that Green Day even did a cover song… they have so many great songs of their own.
I’m glad it got your toes tappin 🎶💃🏼
