Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. Blah blah blah, rules and future prompts at Jim’s site, yadda yadda yadda… does anyone even read this part? I change it every week.
The prompt words this week – Devoted, Faithful, Honorable, Loyal, True
There are so many songs that come to mind for this prompt, but I had to go with a cover version from a movie. The song is Stand By Your Man as performed by The Blues Brothers, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, in their 1980 hit movie of the same title. And, again, none of the actual prompt words are in the song, but I believe it conveys the overall feeling. Anyway, it’s one of my favorite movies, and all the music from it is fantastic!
Stand By Your Man was originally performed by country singer Tammy Wynette. It was released on September 20, 1968 as the first single and title track from the album Stand by Your Man. It elevated Wynette—then one of many somewhat successful female country recording artists—to superstar status. The song was placed at number one on CMT’s list of the Top 100 Country Music Songs.
It has been covered many times, by many people, and used in many movies. As I wrote earlier, The Blues Brothers movie is a favorite of mine. It has great, quotable lines for those of us who speak “movie”, and the car chases and crashes are amazing. In fact, The Blues Brothers held the record for the most cars destroyed in the course of production for 18 years, at 103, one fewer than were wrecked in its 1998 sequel Blues Brothers 2000. Both were surpassed by G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009), with 112 cars destroyed.
I gathered a bunch of facts about the movie and song, but you guys can Goigle just as easily as I can, so we’ll skip all that, and get on with the music.
I’ve been accused, among other things
Of doing most of my writing for you ladies
But I did write a song special for you guys
Don’t go away feeling slighted
This is special for you
Sometimes it’s hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You’ll have bad times, and he’ll have good times
Doin’ things that you don’t understand
But if you love him, you’ll forgive him
Even though he’s hard to understand
And if you love him, oh, be proud of him
‘Cause after all, he’s just a man
Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely
Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man
Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man
Your man

Have you seen The Blues Brothers? What song would you choose? I had three other songs I thought of using and Journey’s wasn’t one of them. I’m curious to see if anyone chooses one of my three. Thanks for stopping by!
(I’m still mostly away. School is off to a bumpy start, and the Casa has been very Cuckoo. I still lurk when I can, and drop occasional comments, but I’m not able to devote much time. I think about you all and hope everyone is doing well!)

HUGS!!!

I hope you can get set in school routine soon. I’m missing you

I hope so too! They sent him home Friday cuz of a runny nose and slight cough. Either 10 day quarantine or Negative test🤦🏼♀️ Even though there was zero fever and they know he’s vaxxed. After the usual hiccups, we got him tested Friday afternoon and thank goodness his NEGATIVE result came today. His teacher & the school nurse have been emailed with a copy of the result (a PCR test from the County😉) and he will be on the bus with his allergies tomorrow morning.🥳💃🏼
I’m glad his school is following safety protocol, but we need some routine too.
When are you guys moving? Your poor grandson will have to change schools again☹ Luckily he seems to be very intelligent and adaptable.
Hugs!!🤗🥰💕

We had the same situation when my daughter’s MIL had covid and my granddaughter couldn’t attend the day care without a negative test and a doctor’s certificate. She is a trooper and got the test done and now she knows all about covid test.
The move is today for me and my grandson. My daughter will join after she is done with office tomorrow. He is excited right now and I hope he makes friends over there too. Thanks Angie. Take care. Hugs.

The first time I saw the Blues Brothers was when they played Soul Man on SNL. It was truly a jaw dropping performance. John Belushi was a gem of society. It’s such a shame he died so young. He had decades more art wound up inside of him. Interestingly, Dan Aykroyd has tourette and autism. But that doesn’t make me like him any more. He’s simply dull. Getting paired up with Belushi has to be the luckiest thing that ever happened to him. (IMO)

Maybe that was too harsh. Sorry. Hard to stand up next to Belushi’s super nova glow.

He was great, totally agree!

Yeah, Dan is just a basic guy.🤷🏼♀️ He makes a great “straight man” and he can sing and dance, but he doesn’t have the physicality that Belushi had.
Drugs were a problem even during the filming of the movie… it’s a shame.

Great choice! I remember the Tammy Wynette original And the Blues Brothers cover. They do a brilliant job with it and make me giggle a bit at the same time. First song that comes to my mind is Sandy singing Hopelessly Devoted to You (not sure if that’s the title 🙃) in Grease 😄🎶.
Hugs! 🤗💕

A couple people chose Hopelessly Devoted To You, and that is indeed the title. Grease is a great movie too!
I didn’t even listen to the original when I wrote this post😲 I’ve never heard it🤣🤣🤣
Thanks💝🥰

Well, they do it enough justice that you don’t need to listen to the original! Sound almost jsut like her! 😄

Perfect for the prompt! Now I want to re-watch the Blues Brothers. I could use some laughter around here …

Yeah, laughter at Casa Cuckoo has been the “gotta laugh or cry” variety lately, so I’m thinking a rewatch of Blues Brothers might be a good idea. I know we had a DVD, but I doubt it has survived Mr SpazmaTaz🤪
Hope things get better for you🤞💕

I once won a Blues Brothers dancing contest…… It’s a great movie. Really hope things sort out soon for you.

I’d like to see you dancing like Jake & Elwood🕺
Thanks, Gary💕 I hope things settle soon too. It’s been frustrating. Having to go pick Ben up from school on Friday, then having to take him to get tested, just because he has a runny nose a bit of cough. He’s had that since school started on August 30… I think it’s just allergies. It’s NOT the Kootie, his test (from the County, not a home test) was negative, so he can go back to school and not have to stay home for 10 days.
I understand they have their rules, and I’m glad they do, but it was a pain in the arse we didn’t need. Poor Daughter had worked all night at the hospital and didn’t get to sleep until Friday night.
Okay🤐🤐🤐 I’ll stop😂 I hope YOU are getting better sleep and that Hawklad is continuing to make progress🤞 Give yourself a big squeezing hug from me!💌💌💌💌

I am a week behind (or 3) and just asked about how the back-to-school routine was going for you guys on your latest post before catching up 🤦♀️. The school routine is kicking our butts. As for a song, I’d pick ‘One Call Away’ by Charlie Puth – and although it fits the bill about being loyal – it comes to mind mostly because my youngest LOVES this song and plays it as though it’s the last song on Earth available on iTunes. 😜

I had to look it up… I only listened to half🤪😂 Oh, I’m so sorry!!
Ben’s favorite song is Bad by Michael Jackson… it MUST be played on repeat for the drive home after dropping Daughter at work. Luckily it’s a short drive.
