Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. I just read a post on Jim’s site about “Lids”… an old term for an amount of marijuana, weed, or cannabis. It made me laugh because I was very, very high when I saw the band that plays the song I chose. Probably most times I listened to the album too.
The prompt words this week (suggested by me) – Heavenly Bodies, Planets, Moon, Sun, Stars
With a list of at least a dozen songs just off the top of my head I knew I was in trouble. Then I remembered Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath. It’s from their 1970 classic Paranoid. I don’t think the song got radio play, not with War Pigs, Iron Man, and Parnoid from the same album, but I love it! It’s very different from the usual Black Sabbath music, very mellow and kinda jazzy.
I saw Black Sabbath April 9, 1982. Ozzy wasn’t singing with them anymore, they had Ronnie James Dio as their singer. Great show! They didn’t play Planet Caravan though.
Wiki tells us – Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler – who composed the song’s lyrics – said the song is about floating through the universe with one’s lover. Black Sabbath lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne uses a Leslie speaker to achieve the vocals’ treble and vibration effects. The piano parts on the track were played by album engineer Tom Allom. Iommi overdubbed flute to the reversed multitrack master which was then re-forwarded and treated with stereo delay.
On 31 May 2020, “Planet Caravan” was selected by SpaceX as the wake-up music for the crew of a SpaceX Crew Dragon prior to the craft’s launch later that day. It represented the first time astronauts have received a musical wake-up since the final shuttle mission in July 2011. The craft was bound for the International Space Station.
We sail through endless skies
Stars shine like eyes
The black night sighs
The Moon in silver dreams
Falls down in beams
Light of the night
The Earth a purple blaze
Of sapphire haze
In orbit always
While down below the trees
Bathed in cool breeze
Silver starlight breaks
Dawn from night
And so we pass on by
The crimson eye
Of great god Mars
As we travel the universe

Life at the Casa continues to be rough. I had a few days where I was stuck in melancholia, but that could’ve been the cloudy, rainy weather. Yes, rain. I know, crazy, right?! We had a thunder and lightning storm too. I have proof! I took a bazillion pictures cuz it happened at sunset, and I caught the lightning in one picture. There’s even a bit of rainbow next to the lightning. I made a video of all the pictures… it’s here if you’re interested.
Anyway, I’m still trying to get some sleep, still dealing with nonsense, and still lurking while I try to form some kind of routine. And I mean routine in the loosest possible meaning of the word. I hope all is well with all of you, and I’ll see you next Sunday, or hopefully sooner.
What song would you choose for this prompt? Are you a Black Sabbath fan? What do you think of this song? Thanks for stopping by!
.
HUGS!

Amazing photos Angie, the lightning photo is wonderful and so are the rainbow pics. Hope you reach a level of peacefulness. We are missing you. Take care. Hugs 🤗

Thanks Sadje! It feels weird for me to be away, especially after a year old daily posting. There is just so much stuff that got put off until Ben was in school, and now that he’s in school, there are other things causing issues.
Even the weather is being wonky! We keep going from overcast for several days and occasional rain to hot and dry with one day of transition in between.
Daughter is changing areas in the hospital. She interviewed and was hired in the ICU, which is where she wants to be, plus it’s more pay. So there’s been drama around changing departments… HR has to make everything difficult 🙃
Just life… but lots of “small fires” to put out🤷🏼♀️ I’ll get it sorted… probably just before the holidays🤦🏼♀️😂😂
How are things with you? Is your grandson doing in person school? Is your daughter enjoying her job? Is your hot weather finally over?🤗💕🌻

Yes, it does feel strange after being in touch with you every day for a year to be so out of touch. I miss both you and Rory who has also changed his blogging schedule. I’m good, my grandson is doing 5 days of in-person schooling and is better adjusted in new school. Daughter is super busy but happier here than she was in her old job. It rained a lot last night and now I can feel the chill in the air, finally.

I saw Black Sabbath in concert once and Ozzie was in the group back them. Thinks for selecting this wonderful prompt today Angie, as I an certain it will bring a lot of good music here, I enjoyed this song and the video was really cool.

I had just turned 14 when I saw Sabbath and I know I wouldn’t have been allowed if Ozzy had still been with them. My mother specifically said “No way! That guy bites heads off bats” so I told her he was gone (she had no idea who Dio was😂) and I was allowed to go.
I’ve already heard a bunch of new songs! It’s one of the awesome things about SLS!

Wow. Not what I imagine when I think BlackSabbath. I loved the images in the video. I read that the new James Webb telescope will take our view of space even beyond the Hubble.

James Webb telescope? I have not heard of this new marvel😲 Not a very good Sciencey Stuff person am I?☹
Yeah, Planet Caravan is definitely not a typical Sabbath song. That whole album is great! “Fairies Wear Boots” is another great song. The lyrics just make me laugh.

Not into heavy metal head banging, huh?😂 This song is very different. It’s slow and kinda jazzy. Not loud screaming guitars, Definitely NOT typical Black Sabbath.

Sending you hugs, I hope things pick up soon. It’s a great song. Not seen Sabbath or Ozzy play this live. Maybe I would go for Blue Oyster Cult – Astronomy – and I’ve seen them play it as well.

Oh, that’s a great song choice! I never saw BOC, never saw Rush either ☹ Lots of bands I’ve seen, a few greats I missed🤷🏼♀️
I don’t think that they could actually DO Planet Caravan live, with the backward flute & the vocals through a speaker… trippy cool song though.

I think I only really know the Black Sabbath songs you listed. The one you chose is such a different sound! Cool song!
I’ve been melancholic and lacking routine as well. Everything I used to do – I don’t know – I don’t do it anymore and that is fine but it is messing with my brain. Hopefully, we settle into something pleasing soon!

I’m sorry things have been rough for you too. I think we’re all still stuck in “pandemic mode”, and it’s hard to find our footing. We hermits got used to being even more hermit-like and the grocery store is still potentially a scary place😉 Folks with social anxiety are out of practice in “normal” social interactions. I imagine it’s much harder now.
My biggest problem is time. I never have enough or I’m horrible at managing it🤷🏼♀️ Ben’s sleep is still all over the place, and Daughter’s schedule has been all over the place. I’m just riding it all out. No expectations of things I HAVE to do. I miss my Blog Buddies but I was stressing out about reading everything and comments and posting. I do the Sunday post to keep in touch and because I love music, but I need to get my life sorted before I can even think about my cyber-life. I need less stress, not more🤪
Yes, hopefully we’ll both find the path forward a little less bumpy🤞 Some regular, nothing much happens, simple days would be great!!💕🌻🌞🦋
