#SLS ~ Mai Tai?

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. This is usually where I add random stuff, but I put the full check in after the video this week. Here’s a random bit of info… the sunsets and sunrises have been really pretty this past week… almost, dare I write… Tropical. I’ve seen the wild Parrots most nights too. If you’d like to see them, I make videos/slide-shows of the pictures I take. They’re here.

The prompt words for this week are – Atoll, Island, Key, Lagoon, Peninsula, Reef, Tropical

Once again I had too many songs to choose from. My first thought was Weezer’s Island In The Sun, especially since I just saw them recently, but I thought someone else might grab that one. Then I thought of a song I liked so much as a wee lass that I bought the 45, Thunder Island by Jay Ferguson (no, I didn’t understand what it was about at the time), or Sir Elton’s Island Girl, but neither of those were right either.

Finally, I found the perfect song, and it’s by a band I’ve seen and really like. They aren’t super well known, but they’re fantastic! The song is Zen Island by Iration. Those who follow me know I’m always writing about my “Zen”, and that I love the ocean. Add in the fact that it’s one of the bands I’ve seen in concert and this song seemed the perfect choice. I have pictures of me and Younger at the concert here.

Zen Island is from their seventh studio album Coastin’, released July 10, 2020. According to Wiki, the album reached #1 on Billboard 200 and #2 on Billboard Reggae Albums.

Iration formed in Santa Barbara, CA in 2004, but all members are originally from Hawaii. They aren’t strictly a Reggae band, like Bob Marley… They’re more like 311 or Slightly Stoopid. They’ve got a great chill vibe, but they can get you dancing too. Highly (unintended pun) Recommended!

Since the lyrics are in the video, I’ll use this space for my Weekly Check In. I got my new glasses and to celebrate the fact that I could see again, I went to See’s and got myself a pound of truffles. WallyWorld is part of the mall, so why not, right?

Ben’s sleep is still all over the place, which further affects my insomnia and sleeping issues, so my butt is still draggin. Daughter started her new unit and so far is liking it much better. There are IT issues that need to be fixed and a bunch of stuff she needs to learn, but nobody has screamed at her or hit her, and that’s always a bonus.

I saw the Vampires aka the lab techs this past week. I was supposed to get a Boob Squish aka mammogram also, but Gee… I just kept forgetting to schedule the dang appointment. Yes, I know they are important, but my last one was only three years ago, and my Primary Care doc did a manual exam when he did my pap and pelvic. Anyway, I see my Primary this week to review the Vampires report and talk about the Methotrexate that I take for plaque psoriasis. Hopefully we can reduce it, cuz it still kicks my ass every week.

It has been a busy week with errands and family stuff, but things seem to be getting sorted and hopefully calming down. I’ve been able to cross a few things off my delayed To Do list which is excellent! The weather has turned Autumnal, which is great cuz I hate being hot, but sad cuz I miss the light. It’s really gonna suck when the time changes. How are you guys doing? I hope you’re all doing well! I’m still lurking… commenting less, but reading as often as I’m able.

What do you think of Iration? What song comes to your mind for these prompt words? Let me know in comments, or create your own post. #SLS is a great place to discover new music, or rediscover old favorites. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I’m struggling with the dwindling light as well. More dark than light now. I’ve decided that this is a major design flaw with earth and I’m trying to figure out how to file a complaint. Nothing is better than new glasses. The world jumps into focus and everything is crisp and clear for a while. And when that fades, you don’t notice until you can’t figure out which kid on the stage is your daughter.

    1. If you figure out where to file the complaint, please let me know😉
I knew my night vision was getting worse, and it was actually starting to scare me a little driving after Sunset, but WOW! I didn’t realize how much worse until the new glasses. My hearing is getting worse too. I may have to look into at least one hearing aid for the damaged side☹
It’s not a vanity thing… it’s an expense thing. Medicare doesn’t cover hearing or glasses. Dental isn’t covered either but I already have full dentures so that isn’t a problem.
I’m feeling more like a cyborg all the time🤪😂

  2. I’ve been putting mine off too. I don’t mind the boob squish as much as the wallet squish when they inevitably say they need more views and it’s $1000 over the “free” insurance exam. And they always find exactly nothing every time since they began this scammo. Blah!

    1. They see my Medicare and know I’m broke😂 I just hate going to medical appointments. I wouldn’t go to my monthly pump fill if I didn’t have to.
I picked my Primary doctor cuz he practices out of a house that’s two houses down from me. Luckily for me he and his staff are nice.
Cost is why I put off the glasses for so long too. It’s ridiculous that Medicare doesn’t cover eyes, ears, or teeth🙄

    1. I saw that you grabbed Weezer. I figured you would. The video I linked is a different one, it has a bunch of animals, like Monkeys, big cats, a bear… it’s cute.
I’m stoked you like Iration. This isn’t their best song. Check out “Hotting Up” or “Back Around”🎶💃🏼

  3. The song is super chill! The first one that popped into my mind was Kokomo by the Beach Boys. Actually, I forgot the name and had to google the lyrics. But, Kokomo. Did anyone pick that one?
I am loving the cooler weather. Every year I try to make it to Halloween before I will turn the heat on. It was a brisk 62 degrees in our house this morning. But we can make it! Just a few more days!

    1. We never turn the heat on. Just pile on blankets and wear hoodies. It’s been in the 50s overnight with house open it’s chilly. Even in winter when we get frost, we don’t use the heat. It’s not central heat so it’s a waste🤷🏼‍♀️
We keep going from 90% with 9% humidity to 60s and completely overcast…. all within a week, with like one or two “transition days” that are kinda nice🤪

Kokomo is a great choice and I don’t think anyone picked it. I didn’t look at everyone’s posts🤷🏼‍♀️ Excellent! You’re good at this😉 I got Jeff joining, in his way which totally works, you should join too🥰
      No pressure😉🌞💕🌻

  4. Glad you finally have new glasses 🙂

Iration are a bit too olaid back for me. I have just started to listen to music again, not in the house though, only when l get an occasional walk by myself in the morning when l am taking photos.

Glad things are slowly starting to improve at CC

    1. Yeah… Iration is all about the chill. 😎 I don’t imagine it would suit you. I’m stoked to read you can at least tolerate music on your walks 🥳💃🏼

Very slow improvements. If the weather would cooperate it would be helpful. Ben is so sensitive to high pressure and the weather keeps going from high, to low, to high, to low… maybe one transition day. Maybe. High pressure makes him SpazmaTaz more. ADHD overdrive, and he can’t sleep.

Ah well, we’ll get it figured out🤪😂
