#SLS ~ Bliffer Bloofs?

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. I don’t really have much to report about the Casa. Sven is still doing well and giving me lots of side-eye, and the family is mostly healthy. Sleep continues to be an issue for Ben and I’m a chronic insomniac. Even with prescription medication, my sleep isn’t great. I’m just taking each day as it comes. Let’s just get to the music…

The prompt this week is – songs with Nonsense lyrics

The first song with nonsense lyrics that popped into my head was Welcome Christmas from the animated TV Special How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Originally telecast in the United States on CBS on December 18, 1966, it went on to become a perennial holiday special. I’m wondering now whether they really qualify as nonsense words, or are they just words in the language of the Whos?

The song is in two parts. Part One shows the Whos getting ready for Christmas, and Part Two shows them gathering to welcome Christmas Day even though the Grinch took all their stuff.

Lyrics from Dr Seuss Fandom Wiki

Fah-who foris, dah-who doris, welcome Christmas, bring your light.

Fah-who foris, dah-who doris, welcome in the cold at night!

Welcome Christmas, fah-who rah-moose!

Welcome Christmas dah-who dah-moose!

Welcome Christmas while we stand, heart to heart and hand in hand!

Trim up the tree with Christmas stuff like bingle balls and who-floo fluff.

Trim up the tree with goo-hoo guns and bizel blicks at ones!

Trim every blessed window and trim every blessed door.

Hang up woo boo hoo bricks, then run out and get some more!

Hang pantukas on the ceiling, pile panpunas on the floor.

Trim every blessed needle on the blessed Christmas tree.

Christmas comes tomorrow, trim you, trim me!

Trim up the tree with busel buns, and bliffer bloofs, and wunsel wuns.

Trim up your uncle and your aunt with yards of who flunt flan!

Trim up with yards of who flunt flan!

Then there’s the second part, or Reprise. It is performed by the MGM Studio Orchestra. The lyrics are by Theodor Geisel aka Dr Seuss, and the music is by Albert Hague and Eugene Poddany.

Fah who foraze! Dah who doraze!
Welcome Christmas, come this way!
Fah who foraze! Dah who doraze!
Welcome Christmas, Christmas Day!

Welcome, welcome! Fah who rahmus!
Welcome, welcome! Dah who dahmus!
Christmas Day is in our grasp!
So long as we have hands to clasp!

Fah who foraze! Dah who doraze!
Welcome Christmas! Bring your cheer!
Fah who foraze! Dah who doraze!
Welcome all who’s far and near!

Fah who foraze! Dah who doraze!
Welcome Christmas, come this way!
Fah who foraze! Dah who doraze!
Welcome Christmas, Christmas Day!

Welcome, Christmas! Fah who rahmus!
Welcome, Christmas! Dah who dahmus!
Christmas Day will always be!
Just as long as we have we!

Welcome Christmas, fahoo ramus
Welcome Christmas, dahoo damus
Welcome Christmas while we stand
Heart to heart and hand in hand

Fahoo fores dahoo dores
Welcome, welcome Christmas day
Welcome, welcome Christmas day

I admit to being a Grinch. I don’t hate Christmas or holidays, I just don’t like crowds, commercialism and all the noise, Noise, NOISE! The Reprise makes my heart grow too. I do like the idea of communities coming together and helping each other.

I have the great fortune of having an awesome WP community and I appreciate you all. Thanks for sticking with me through this semi-hiatus that’s going on longer than intended.

What song would you choose for this prompt? Are you a Grinch like me? Let me know in comments, and I’ll see you next Sunday.

.

HUGS!

    1. Thank you Sadje!💕🌻 Is your grandson on winter break, or was he back to online school 🤔 I can’t remember🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s different in different places, and we have blog buddies all over the world. It’s difficult enough to remember what day it is sometimes😂 I still have to remind myself that you’re not up north anymore🤦🏼‍♀️😂

      1. You’re welcome. He is doing physical school and will have his winter break around Christmas. His school has withdrawn the online option for most kids except those who have medical issues. Take care my dear friend

  1. That is so funny. The kids likened their dad to Clark Griswold and me to the Grinch. I guess we can be grinchy together. 🙂 Declan loves the movie so we are watching all the versions of it all the time. Great song choice! I guess I would pick Debaser from the Pixies. Actually, a lot of their songs could work. Their lyrics never make a ton of sense but they have a great sound!

  2. Great song choice. Dr Seuss really nailed it with the Grinch. I tried to buy the VHS once at K-Mart for a few dollars. What I got was a famous actor (can’t remember which one) reading the book while the pictures from the pages were displayed. It was still pretty good, because, well, the story is good.

    1. Kind of a rip-off though😂 Back in the day… when K-Mart was everywhere, and you had to wait until the Grinch came on TV. We have a DVD set with all the old movies, even The Little Drummer Boy, which didn’t always get broadcast ☹

        1. There’s a song in the old Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, “If You Sit On My Lap Today”, it made me feel cringey about the whole sitting on Santa’s lap thing.
“Kids” movies and shows are all actually horrible if you think about it. The Grimms Tales were awful too. 😂😂 No wonder we’re all messed up🤪

  3. I’m not a grinch, but I like Easter better.
We finally (well Ken did it) got up the tree, the lights and the decorations. It looks great.
Ken is organized and buys online for everyone. I don’t shop online. I’d rather go to a thrift store and muddle around. Or take the person out individually to shop. That’s my fav.
We aren’t seeing Ken’s side this year. They don’t want to get together. One of the family isn’t vaccinated and they decided to cancel it all so she doesn’t get offended. Whatever. I’m disappointed.
We went to a holiday concert last weekend watched Andrew sing. It was lovely. Many of the family attended that. It was in a crowded church, so that wasn’t the best.

Big rainy day here. Finally. Chickens don’t really like it, but I’m grateful for it.

Glad you are doing ok. I got an extra day off this week cause my boss had her baby. So exciting.
Enjoy the Holidays with your Family.

    1. Thanks Teri! I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season too! It’s cold and getting ready to rain down here. I know we need it, but I’m not a fan of rain. It’s mostly the bad drivers and messy mud Ben still loves🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ that I don’t like.

  4. Mm, l am surprised you chose the grinch and not maybe that baby Shark song Ben likes.

So is Christmas day going to raucous or quiet or just plain madness then?

This sleep issue of yours that you don’t write about and shift to music quickly is a serious concern.

    1. No Baby Sharks😫 That song is cute the first 100 times, after that it’s just torture.

Christmas Eve will be Daughter & I madly wrapping all the gifts🙄 Can’t do it early cuz Ben would open them. Christmas morning will be bleary-eyed madness for about 30-45 minutes, followed by clean up and hopefully relaxing. Daughter works Christmas night. We’re doing the ham and cheesy taters on the 19th🤷🏼‍♀️ Her schedule is all over the place this month.

Sleep… yes… Ben has a new medication for us to try when he pulls an all-nighter. It’s like a super benadryl. I’ve given it to him once and it seemed to help, but the few times Daughter gave it to him, he was still awake most of the night.
My sleep is partly due to the Fibromyalgia preventing me from reaching the deep level. Until fibro is really researched and better treatments are found, I take Restoril, which doctors don’t want to prescribe because it’s a benzodiazapine… habit forming, and used recreationally, like Valium or Xanax 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
