Since I didn’t get a SLS post out last week, and I don’t think I’ll be able to put one together this week, I figured all my WP Dudes might be curious about life at Casa Cuckoo. If not, then feel free to move on to something more interesting.
Where to even start?? Okay, the “son” that was supposed to come stay for Christmas was a no show. We didn’t actually hear from him until Christmas Day. He was supposed to arrive sometime on the 24th, but we know how he is and weren’t surprised when he didn’t show up.
He messaged Daughter on the afternoon of the 25th that he felt sick and had scheduled a Kootie test. Ironic really cuz Daughter had started having the ol’ flu-like symptoms on the 21st, the day we cooked the ham and stuff. She called out of work on the 23rd and 25th and scheduled a test of her own.
She couldn’t get a test until the 27th at a drive thru site by her hospital, so she called out for the 26th too. She’s had three Pfizer shots and a flu shot, but she was sick. Not horrible, but achey, crying, miserable sick.
During all this time the Casa is full of the usual chaos, the weather was rainy and cold, and Ben was getting bored from being cooped up inside. Everyone’s sleep was messed up and Idjits with illegal fireworks were setting off a nightly bark-fest from Dogzilla. Fun stuff!
So on the 27th we arrive five minutes early at the parking lot where they do the testing. I was waved down to a lower parking lot down the street. Then I was waved into a line of cars waiting to turn into the lower parking lot. I was watching traffic, it was 4pm, so I didn’t see what the set-up was until I was directed into one of two lines circling the lower parking lot.
Skip ahead two hours… yes, TWO HOURS, and Daughter, Ben and I are still in the car. We’ve made it to the upper parking lot and someone has taken Daughter’s appointment information… for her 4pm appointment. She finally got her brain scraped via her nostrils at 6:15pm. More Fun stuff!
We promised Ben McDonald’s if he could just hang on a little longer. He always goes a little SpazmaTaz around sunset, and having him in the car for two hours and not really moving was asking a LOT from him. He got a little upset over the route I took to the Golden Arches cuz the test site was by the hospital and we always go home the same way after dropping Daughter at work or picking her up.
We got his Happy Meal and extra nuggets and headed home. It was time for his meds by then, and there was Dogzilla chaos, trying to get everyone settled chaos, rainy wet stuff chaos… just a swirly, twisty bunch of chaos. We finally got it sorted, settled and everyone went to sleep. Except me cuz someone had to clean up.
The test results came back really fast. Daughter got them the evening of the 28th. Her result… Indeterminate. Seriously?! After all that?! True, it had been a week since she’d started having symptoms, but what was she supposed to do about work on the 30th and 31st? We, especially I did Not want to spend another two hours in the car. It’s painful for me to be in a car that long.
Daughter emailed her boss and asked him what to do. A lot of businesses make you get a doctor’s note to return to work after calling out for three shifts/days. Her boss told her to contact Employee Health. She called and got a voice-mail system. Great! (Are you hearing the sarcasm?) Daughter left a message but never got a call back. She did try to call a few more times, but it always went directly to voice-mail.
Her boss finally told her if she didn’t have a fever (which she never did), and she felt okay (she was weak and had some shortness of breath) to come into work. So she worked Thursday night and last night. She has tonight off, then works Sunday and Monday nights. Seriously jacked up schedule!
Meanwhile, Ben has discovered a new way to entertain himself and scare the bejeebers out of Daughter and me. He climbs up the fence of our deck thingy, then onto the “roof” of the deck, which is brittle plastic over two by fours, and hangs onto the trunk of the Pecan Tree. Ai yi yi!
Yesterday he got up there and refused to come down. It is impossible to safely drag him down, and we tried bribery, scolding, guilt… we tried everything we could think of, and being a 13 year old child, and being autistic, he can ignore and out-stubborn even Daughter and me.
He actually did slip and hurt himself. We couldn’t even see how badly until he decided to get down. He’d snagged his butt across a nail and ripped the seat of his PJ pants (oh yeah, climbing in PJs and slippers) , his underwear and two scratches from his butt crack up his right butt cheek. Hopefully they hurt enough to be a reminder.
So, that’s what’s been going on at Casa Cuckoo. How are you all doing? I try to pop in and read here and there, but I don’t have much mental energy. I have lurked a little without pressing “Like” or commenting. A little.
The GLYSB returns on Monday praise the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but I’ll be putting him on the bus solo, since Daughter’s schedule is jacked up. After a few days of rest, hopefully I’ll be back to at least doing the SLS thing. Hopefully.
.
HUGS!! and Happy 2022, and a New Moon on the 2nd. Lots of New!

Happy 2022 to you too! Hope your daughter continues to feel better. Sounds like your casa cuckoo is much like my casa cuckoo with the illegal fireworks which have been going off for the last few weeks getting progressively worse. We even had a few residual pops today. Someone new to the area was posting on the neighborhood app asking what the police were going to do to stop it. Uh, nothing! You could really tell she wasn’t from around here.

Yeah, I WISH the police would do something. Big fat fines… just take them away. They started setting them off at Thanksgiving🙄🤦🏼♀️ My neighborhood app had people saying basically “quit complaining, you knew it was coming” 🤦🏼♀️Yeah yeah yeah… I knew it was coming, I doped Dogzilla up on benadryl and turned the TV up in Ben’s room where he sleeps. It didn’t help.☹
I’m sorry you’re having to deal with it too. I don’t begrudge people their idjit fun, but why not go to a big shopping center parking lot or someplace that isn’t residential.

I kissed Sven on the tip of his pointed triangle face when I got him out of the tub today. He was happy from snoozin’ in the warm water, and he tolerates my kisses😂😂
I’m happy to read I’ve inspired something besides yawning from boredom😉🤣🤣

Yeah… probably smart. Did you see Teri’s comment? Her whole extended family up in the Bay area got together and everyone is sick now. It’s sneaking past even the 3rd shot 😱

Omg I’m exhausted reading this.😱
So sorry about all this crap. I’ll email you later or tomorrow maybe… I’ll try.
Get as much rest as you can when the boy is at school again next week! They decided to delay school only 2 days up here (rather than shut down) but the two camps, for and against lockdown/restrictions whatever the eff they’re calling it now, are giving me a headache so I just ignore everything. 🤷♀️
Happy first day of 2022! It can only get better, right?

It WILL get better! Eventually. It might get worse before it gets better, but the point is… it WILL get better!😂😂
I don’t think they’ll close schools here unless it gets really, really bad again. All the teachers had to get vaccinated, and all the students too.
I tell ya, after having Ben home for 2 weeks, I’m wondering how I survived 2020😂😂
Bless that little yellow school bus, and the driver who stops at my house!!😉🥳💃🏼
Email whenever. I’ll be here. Until I run away from home, but that’s many years ahead still… 😉😂💌💌

Hey Gramma, good to see you are all in one piece even if peace still evades the household. So 22 will there more of you, or not, that’s the big question 🙂
Keep smiling and best wishes 🙂

More of me? I doubt it… I’m still trying to put weight on.🤷🏼♀️
Oh! You mean more posts, and novel-length comments? Welp… I certainly hope so. I intend to write more. I have a few posts that have been rolling around in the clutter of my noggin.
Life and family and our old pal Murphy tend to upend my plans though, so we shall see.
I hope you’ve mastered the alphabet with your new toofers🤞 and I hope you’re smiling, giggling and guffawing as often as possible.

Happy new year Angie, dear friend. What a bummer to wait for two hours just for the test. I hope she, and you all stay well. Ben hopefully won’t climb up the roof/tree again because it must’ve hurt getting those scratches. Take care and keep in touch. Hugs.

Thanks Sadje! Daughter needs rest but unfortunately her schedule isn’t allowing much. I’m thinking she probably had a breakthrough case. She’s been working with covid patients and just working in the hospital, it’s everywhere. She can’t run down to get blood for a patient in full PPE.
Ben is 13. He’s gonna do stooopid stuff. I’ve never know a 13 year old boy or girl or non-binary who didnt do stooopid stuff. I just hope he doesn’t hurt himself bad enough to need a trip to the hospital.
I hope the scratches DO hurt… just enough to be a reminder. They look bad, but they really weren’t. He got lucky.
I hope you and your family are healthy and happy. 🤗🥰

You’re welcome my dear. Kids that age are very difficult to handle. Willful and obstinate. I hope the rest of the break is uneventful. Hugs.

Thank you! A few minutes early would be nice😉 I’m hoping the fireworks idjits used all their stash. Thank goodness we’ve had rain and I didn’t need to worry about a fire starting from the idjits. It’s the reason they’re illegal here. California has burned enough.
Happy New Moon Sunday to you! 🤗🥰🦋🌻🐾💌

Hey there! What a jacked up situation with your daughter having to go to work while sick. That sucks. Especially since she is taking care of patients.
Well, we’ve had quite the shit show around here too. Christmas Eve was hosted at my sister’s place. I think there were 21 people. Almost every one has become sick. About 9 or 10 of us have tested positive including my husband. My biys are both sick and can’t get tested till jan 3rd and jan 5th. I tested negative and still don’t have any symptoms. It’s incredible. So a niece and nephew and their uncle who were at the party flew to their dads/brothers place in Scottsdale Arizona where the uncle tested positive . Great, right? Spread it to another state/family!!! Now 3 have tested positive at that house and my iece had to reschedule her trip to San Diego w boyfriend and can’t come home to Bay Area until tomorrow. Craaazzzzy.
Yes. It was a superspreader event. Both my Mom whi has cancer got it and her 83 yr old husband. They are doing ok so far.
Everyone was vaccinated and many were boosted.
So even though I’m not sick, I’ve been living in the other room while Ken isolates from me.
Not exactly the best vacation. And i did go to my nanny job one day before ken had symptoms. So far they are ok, even with a newborn.
Well, at least my Dad is fine so far.
Can you even believe it? Such a challenging time.
Better go help Ken take down the xmas tree.
You stay healthy Angie.

Neither Ben or I have had any symptoms and Younger was here on the 21st when Daughter first started feeling sick. I haven’t tested. Not since the two hour fiasco.
That omicron is getting past some boosted people. Thank goodness for the milder symptoms. Daughter always seems to get respiratory stuff. Even though she gets flu shots every year as required by her work.
I’m sorry to read your whole family got it. Hopefully everyone who is sick has a relatively easy time with it. Glad your Mom & Dad and Mom’s hubby are okay.
Don’t wear yourself out taking care of everyone.

Happy New Year! God(dess) it’s a relief to write 2022. I’ve been in a similar mode as you – introverted and quiet. Not uncaring or apathetic but just doing the best I can, metering my limited energy. This’s probably the most I’ve commented in years (2-3?) lol. Covid testing stations were packed over the holidays here too – people traveling internationally, plus family members requiring it of fellow family members to get together for Christmas, yada yada. Bah humbug lol. Way to go Ben for powering through being cooped up in the car for so long! I might’ve set something on fire in his position lol (kidding). I’m enjoying your updates! I always feel like I’m right there with you 😁🌈💖🌴😎💟☮️💘

Right after that testing fiasco the hospital made it so employees can go to the front of the line… no appointment needed. Omicron is raging through SoCal right now. A lot of people are sick but it’s mostly like regular sick with the vaccinated. Daughter has been working in the ICU for several months now, and all of the COVID cases in ICU are unvaccinated or comorbidities. It sure is making staffing a bit rough though. Doctors and Nurses are out sick.
Healthcare workers are just exhausted. A lot of them are leaving the field entirely. Medicine for profit was an issue before Rona and things have just gotten worse… but that’s an old peeve 😉 I’m too tired to get on my soapbox now😂😂🤐🤐💌
