#SLS ~ Weapons Of Math Instruction?

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. It’s been an insanely busy week for me. I will do a complete update post soon. Two bits of good news (I’ll save the Not Great for the other post)… Ben went back to school, and I gained three pounds last month. I lost fifty-five pounds over the past couple years and I wasn’t trying to lose weight. The first twenty were okay, but the other thirty-five worried me, so gaining three pounds is excellent to me. Anyway, on to the music…

The prompt words for this week are – Bomb, Gun, Knife, Weapon

The song I chose is B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bombs) by System Of A Down (SoaD). They are an Armenian-American Heavy Metal band formed in 1994 in Glendale, California. The song is from their album Mezmerize, released March 28, 2005. B.Y.O.B. was written by Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals) and Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboards). The song won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2006.

I really like SoaD. I like that they thrash, but are melodic too. I like the political statement of this song, which was after 9/11, when Junior sent our military to finish Daddy’s war [my opinion].

Why do they always send the poor?

Barbarisms by Barbaras
With pointed heels
Victorious, victories kneel
For brand new spankin’ deals
Marching forward hypocritic
And hypnotic computers

You depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the table cloth

La, la la, la la, la la, la la

Everybody’s going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine

Kneeling roses disappearing
Into Moses’ dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox
Stealing our intentions
Hangars sitting dripped in oil
Crying, “Freedom!”

Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the table cloth

La, la la, la la, la la, la la

Everybody’s going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine

Everybody’s going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine

Blast off. It’s party time
And we don’t live in a Fascist nation
Blast off. It’s party time
And where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?

Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

Kneeling roses disappearing
Into Moses’ dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox
Stealing our intentions
Hangars sitting dripped in oil
Crying, “Freedom!”

Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth

La, la la, la la, la la, la la

Everybody’s going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desfert, blowing up the sunshine

Everybody’s going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sun

Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?
Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
They always send the poor
They always send the poor

Are you a SoaD fan? What song would you have chosen for this prompt? Do you like my title? I couldn’t resist… “Dubya” seems almost cute after the Orange Idjit and his Cult. I’ll get a full update posted as soon as I can. The Cuckoo just never seems to stop. Thanks for stopping by!

HUGS!

    1. Yeah, SoaD are on the Heavy side of Metal for sure, but dude can sing soft and melodic too. I really enjoy them.
Of course I just noticed that none of the prompt words are actually IN the lyrics🤷🏼‍♀️😂 I still think it fits.

Maybe Tuesday for the update… Daughter works all weekend and Ben is home Monday for MLK Day. It’s difficult to complete a thought with interruptions🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

  1. Good choice! The first song that came to mind was Spanish Bombs by the Clash. But then I thought Guns of Brixton, which I prefer, and would choose that one. I bet a lot of people went with it!

    1. No one has used either of these songs. Great choices! And I just thought of Outkast “Bombs Over Bagdad” … it has a great beat.
Cranberries “Zombie” got used a couple times🤷🏼‍♀️ “Pumped Up Kicks”… “Hey Joe” is a good one too…

Are you guys buried under snow, or is it still coming? It rained here yesterday😲 Rain! Actual water droplets, falling from the sky… in SoCal😲😲🤣🤣🤣🤣

      1. It snowed! And then it rained 😦 Thankfully, last night we got to go out and use our tubes before the snow went away. We have a great sledding hill in our backyard so it was great to get some time in using it for fun!

    1. Thank goodness I’ve never been to a blast like this either! SoaD play their instruments loud and hard, but they can sing as well as scream. I like the tempo and style changes too.

I just realized that none of the promp words actually appear in the lyrics🤦🏼‍♀️ Oops! 🤪😂

    1. I probably wasn’t eating enough. I’ve had trouble with making myself eat for a very long time. It’s not a body image thing… it had more to do with the bad shape my teeth were in, and the medications I used to take.
I’ve been craving cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, etc lately though😂 I bet that’s where the 3 pounds came from😉😂😂

  2. Will need to listen to this tomorrow when I’m not sitting in a room full of reading people. Glad you gained some weight. My father has been in a two year slide. He just moved into a retirement community and he’s gained 2 pounds in two weeks. Must be something in the air. I’d really like to lose 10 right now.

  3. Glad to hear you are gaining some weight. I never seem to have a problem doing that.

So happy Ben is back in school. Hurray. Hope the bad news isn’t too terrible.
I’ve been off work cause my boss got Covid. I’m staying away for at least 2 weeks. Hoping the newborn doesn’t get sick. Luckily the mom is breastfeeding and has been boosted.

Loving the time off and the weather has been spectacular in the Bay Area.

Take care and keep on walking. It will make you stronger.

    1. I never used to have trouble gaining weight either, but I started losing weight🤷🏼‍♀️ I was stressed… lockdown, Daughter working COVID units, Ben home… and I just didn’t eat enough.
I’ve had eating issues going back to before I got the pain pump implanted, when I was still on oral medication for pain.
Anyway, I wasn’t getting enough calories so I started really trying to increase, but I was still losing 1-2 pounds a month. Neither my pain doctor or my primary thought I was UNDER weight, but I haven’t been this small since high school. I’m having to adjust to a different body. I guess I’m gonna be one of those scrawny old bird ladies instead of the plump kind🤷🏼‍♀️ Sagging boobs and a flat butt😂😂

The weather down here has been back and forth. There was fog this morning and now it’s sunny and clear. I go out and talk to the birds😂

Glad you got a little time off to enjoy your nice weather.

      1. Stress is no good for anyone. And it’s hard to live with your kids/grandkids. Makes it extra hard.
        Life is good here.
        Can’t complain.
Am grateful for my life and the people around me.
Little by little I’m getting out more, safely.

        Take care Angie
