#SLS ~ Little Green Men?

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. Shall we get right into the Casa Cuckoo news? Things are going okay. No major dramas, so that’s good. I seem to have picked up a problem with swelling and numbness as well as bad circulation in my fingertips, so that’s not so good. I have an appointment with my Primary Care Doctor on Thursday, so we’ll see what he has to say. I’ll be visiting the “Vampires” at the lab Monday or Tuesday before the appointment. I do have nerve damage in my right arm, plus herniated and bulging discs in my C-Spine, so those could be factors. The fact that it is Winter and it gets chilly even in SoCal could be a factor. Diabetes has also been mentioned, but I’m not having other symptoms and my sugar was fine at my last appointment, about three or four months ago, and I’m sure they’ll check it again when I go to the lab.

I did have one interesting encounter this past week with The Quarter Lady. If you followed my “Adventures” series during lockdown, you’ll remember her. I only had one load of clothes to dry. I had a single and a five. I didn’t want to get $5 in quarters when I only needed $2. So I asked The Quarter Lady if she had change for a $5, explaining the situation. She didn’t have the change, so she gave me a dollar and told me to give it to her next time.๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I’m used to that at the Market, but The Quarter Lady? It was truly shocking!

Time is still in short supply. Or maybe my Time Management needs to be adjusted. There never seems to be enough time to do the things I want to do, and I’m usually brain fried by the time I’ve done all the Have Tos. I’ll get it sorted eventually, and be back to posting and commenting on your posts more. Anyway… let’s get to the music ๐ŸŽถ

Prompt words this week – Space, Planets, Aliens

There were lots of songs popping into my head for this prompt. I finally decided to go with Children Of The Sun performed by Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. The song is from the 1979 album of the same title. Writing credit goes to Billy Thorpe and Spencer Proffer, who was the record’s producer.

There’s not a lot of information about this song. Not that I could find anyway. It peaked at #39 on Billboard in September of 1979. I remember it being played pretty frequently on the local Rock radio station, usually later in the evening. Most of the people I hung around with had it on a mixtape though, so we could listen to it anytime.

I bought a cd of Children Of The Sun… Revisited in the 90s and didn’t really like any of the other songs, but Children Of The Sun was as I remembered it.

People of the Earth can you hear me? Came a voice from the sky on that magical night
And in the colors of a thousand sunsets They traveled through the world on a silvery light
The people of the Earth stood waiting Watching as the ships came one by one Setting fire to the sky as they landed Carrying to the world Children Of The Sun

All at once came a sound from the inside
Then a beam made of light hit the ground
Everyone felt the sound of their heartbeat
Every Man – Every Woman – Every Child
They passed the limits of imagination
Through the doors – to a world – of another time
On the journey of a million lifetimes
With the Children Of The Sun – They started their climb

No more gravity, nothing holding them down
Floating endlessly, as their ship leaves the ground
Through the walls of time – at the speed of light
Fly the crystal ships on their celestial flight
On their celestial flight.

What song would you choose for this prompt? Have you heard this song before? Fan or not so much? Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see ya around the WP Blogosphere. Also, if you want the whole Quarter Lady Drama you can use Quarter Lady in the search bar and it will bring up posts involving her.

HUGS!

  1. I hope the doctors get to the root of swelling and numbness in your hands. It can be diabetes as that thatโ€™s a long time to show such symptoms. Sending you warm hugs! Take care.

    1. Thank you, Sadje! ๐ŸŒป It’s just the finger tips, like to the first knuckle and only when it cold. And my feet have been fine๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ I’m not too worried about diabetes. My body seems to always be doing some new weird thing๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

        1. I have chronic pain from Fibromyalgia and lots of other neck arm hand things. I actually have an implanted pain pump that drips fentanyl into my spinal fluid. The morphine is for flare ups.
Chronic pain is a different beast altogether! I’ve been taking opiates to control it for over 20 years now.
Thankfully my pain is mostly managed with the pump. That appointment is the 14th๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. I hope the doctor gets to the root of the swelling problem. And the quarter lady – what?!?! You must have really gotten on her good side. I think she is going to be inviting you over to her house for coffee or tea soon! I don’t know this song – I’ll have to check it out. The first thing that came to my mind was The Lion Sleeps Tonight by They Might Be Giants. But, I already used that one so I kept thinking and David Bowie popped to mind. But I bet a lot of people picked that one too. So, I thought again (busy morning of thinking for me ๐Ÿ™‚ ) and I decided on Spaceman by The Killers. Bob and I used to watch their concert from the Royal Albert Hall all the time back in the day. So good!

    1. I didn’t know this Killers song. Yay!๐Ÿฅณ New music๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ
The Quarter Lady was a shock! After all the hard times she gave me, thinking I was stealing her quarters…๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I seriously thought about throwing a quick post together, but that was so long ago now. Almost two years๐Ÿ˜ฒ Time is slippery! Two years … POOF! Then today has been a week long, I swear๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
Hope things are going well for you and your clan… teens, ugh!๐Ÿคช

  3. A real drum set in 1979. Impressive. I donโ€™t remember this song at all. I was too busy with Springsteen and Thorogood in 1979 to have den paying attention. If I played, I would have profiledโ€˜Weโ€™re going Way Outโ€™ from the Flintstones. I love all the songs they put into that show.

    1. I forgot about the Way Outs๐Ÿ˜‚ I had to look it up. It’s been forever since I’ve seen the Flinstones or the Jetsons.
Thanks Jeff! Even when you don’t play, I love what I learn, or am reminded of, from your comments!

    1. I hope the doctor has some ideas besides “wear gloves”, which also might be a good idea๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ It’s annoying having numb fingertips.

The song is kinda trippy… kind of a Space Cowboy song๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  4. Good luck with the doctor’s appointment. It’s so frustrating when our bodies keep playing up! I hope they can shed some light as to what’s going on. Maybe predictably, I thought of David Bowie’s Space Oddity for this prompt. I’ve always loved it since I was a child and our teacher played it for us as a prompt for creative writing.

    1. Bowie has a lot of great ones! I thought about using him but figured others would๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
It really IS annoying that my body keeps doing weird things. Mostly though I’m happy that it gets me where I need to go… like an old beat up car that generally runs okay๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  5. Doesn’t life suck at times? you get through one thing then Master M and the Chuckle Gang decide to throw yet abother curve ball. Be mindful of that fingertip situation.
