#SLS ~ The Wet Stuff

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. I did a separate post for the Casa Cuckoo update. It’s here.

The prompt for this week is – Songs that mention rain

This was a crazy hard prompt for me because there are so many songs to choose from. I started making a list* and had ten songs without even thinking too hard. I finally decided to go with a band that I’ve really been enjoying who are just recently getting some notice.

The band is Cannons and the song is Hurricane from their upcoming album Fever Dream, due to be released on March 25, 2022.

Wiki tells us Cannons are an American indie pop band formed in 2013 in Los Angeles. The band consists of lead vocalist Michelle Joy, guitarist Ryan Clapham, and keyboardist and bassist Paul Davis.

They released another song from this album called Bad Dream, that plus another song from their previous album, Shadows called Fire For You are getting a lot of airplay, at least in the San Diego area.

I really like their sound and their visual style too. The singer seems to embrace the Go Go look.

I can bring a change
I can bring the thunder and the rain
Everything around me
Everything will rearrange

I’m coming back like a hurricane
I’m gonna take you higher
On a cloud of silver haze
I wanna take you higher
Away, away, away

We can blow them over
We can take them out if you stay
This is just a warning
Nothing’s standing in my way
I told you before

Coming back like a hurricane
I’m gonna take you higher
On a cloud of silver haze
I wanna take you higher
Away, away, away

Take you somewhere far away
Take you somewhere far away
Away, away, away…

I’m coming back like a hurricane
I’m gonna take you higher
On a cloud of silver haze
I wanna take you higher
Away, away, away

.

What do you think? I encourage you to listen to the other two songs to get a better idea of their sound. Like I wrote before, I am really enjoying them and hope they have continued success.

What song would you use for this prompt? Have you heard of Cannons before or did I get to introduce them to you? Thanks for stopping by!

.

HUGS!!

* if you’re interested, I made a playlist of the songs I didn’t choose

                    1. I blocked that … not even account. The name is a real person, but I doubt the user is that person.
                      Sorry about that🤦🏼‍♀️ You were far kinder than I would’ve been🤗🥰 🌻

  1. Wow, surprising song choice, especially after reading your playlist. Many of those songs seem far more “Angie”. Your choice of a song called Hurricane made me think well of course I’d use Like a Hurricane by Neil Young –it’s a top five song for me and probably the one I listen to most as I make my lunch before work each morning. I really like the Garbage song. In the nineties, that wound up on several mix tapes.

    1. Now I have to find that Neil Young song. I only know his popular stuff🤷🏼‍♀️ I like him, but I’m not a huge fan.
I’m surprised that you’re surprised I like Cannons😂 I like all kinds of music, but yeah… my list was the songs that immediately came to mind. I left Rainy Days & Mondays off, and Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head😂😂
I wanted to introduce Cannons to everyone, just in case they were mainly a West Coast thing for now.
Another band I’m really liking is Dirty Honey. They’ve got a 70s Rock thing going… a little Aerosmith, ACDC, Zeppelin… gritty bluesy guitar Rock with a talented singer. I almost used one of their songs, but the one that had “rain” in it isn’t one of their better ones imo😂

        1. Live version… got it. I will let you know if I become a convert😂

          [edit]

          I listened to it…

the guitar is outstanding and the harmony on the chorus was great. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t quite a religious experience for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Maybe it needs a few more listens to reach that level.😁

      1. I’d have no idea if the Cannons are just west coast. The only stations we have here are i-Heart Radio crap. so I never listen to the radio. Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head is an important song in my mind. I absolutely love the scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when Butch rides that new fangled contraption called a by-cy-cle with Raindrops playing in the background. On a picnic with my father, me meeting his girlfriend and her two kids for the first time, my longtime girlfriend broke up with me as we rode our bikes to meet with them. I tried to keep my spirits up for the picnic by doing tricks on the bike and singing the song. Maybe I should have written about that.

  2. What a fun sound! I have never heard of them before but do like their beat. The first song that came to my mind was the CCR song. Looking at your list – duh – Fool in the Rain is one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. I probably would have chosen that one.

    1. Fool In The Rain is a great story and a great song, but I’m biased. Zeppelin is still my all time favorite.
Cannons is really catchy. Bad Dream and Fire For You have gone Earworm Status on me several times. 🎶🥳💃🏼

  3. Cannons have a great rhythm and a cool sound. Thanks for including the other songs too. You made a great playlist of rain songs! I can see why it was hard to choose 🌈🎶💫🎶☔️🤗

    1. I was wondering if you’d like them😁 Kinda like trance but kinda like 70s Easy Listening… The singer has a great look to go with her awesome voice. It’s not Mongolian Metal, but I like it!💃🏼🎶
