#SLS ~ Emotional

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. Things at the Casa are still Cuckoo. We finally got a new hot water heater installed and running late Wednesday afternoon. Even that was full of mishaps and drama, because this is just how things go for me. All Casa Cuckoo life forms, two legged and four legged, are doing relatively well, so there’s some good news. I’ve definitely gained a new and deeper appreciation for hot water that comes straight from the tap! There’s a grip of other things that happened, but let’s just get to the Music, shall we?

This week, the prompt words are – Anxiety, Delight, Emotions, Pain, Pride

As wide open as these prompt words, and the topic make the choices, I actually had a difficult time choosing a song. I had chosen and rejected Pain and Compliance when I remembered My Immortal by Evanescence. This song can still make me cry. It’s a beautiful song and Amy Lee’s voice makes it even more beautiful.

My Immortal was originally written by Ben Moody while he was still in high school. It’s a completely fictional song, and had different lyrics in some places in the original. Moody met Amy Lee at a Christian youth camp in 1996 when he was 14 and she was 13. They dated for a short time, but decided they were better as friends. They formed Evanescence in Little Rock, Arkansas with keyboardist David Hodges. The trio wrote, played and even lived together for a short time.

My Immortal is from the bands debut full length studio album Fallen, released in 2003. They had released several EPs and a full length demo CD which they sold at their shows, before Fallen.

The album went 7× platinum and earned Evanescence six Grammy nominations, two of which they won. They won Best New Artist, beating 50 Cent who walked on stage and past them as they accepted, and Best Hard Rock Performance.

My Immortal wasn’t released as a single until 2004. It reached #7 on Billboard’s chart but by that time both Hodges and Moody had left the band. Hodges left before Fallen was released, and Moody left mid-tour in October of 2003.

Ben Moody is in the video, which is fitting IMO.

I’m so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
‘Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won’t leave me alone

These wounds won’t seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now I’m bound by the life you left behind
Your face, it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice, it chased away all the sanity in me

These wounds won’t seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

I’ve tried so hard to tell myself that you’re gone
But though you’re still with me
I’ve been alone all along

When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
All of me… me… me…

.

Here come the usual questions… what song would YOU use for this prompt? Are you an Evanescence fan? Do you know what movie featured both My Immortal and Bring Me To Life? Thanks for stopping by!

.

Hugs!!

    1. Having to heat water on the stove for Ben’s bath for over a week definitely made me more appreciative of something I took for granted. A good lesson, but I’m glad it’s over😂😂

I didn’t know about all the changes to the band, so I’m glad I chose the song and learned some things.

      🤗🥰🎶💃🏼

  1. To be honest, I have never listened to a single Evanescence song. I think someone recommended them to me when I wrote a post about anxiety, or maybe I read it in someone else’s blog post but they do seem to strike a chord with a lot of people. I thought about this one – I guess I would pick Ship to Wreck by Florence and the Machine. That used to be on my running playlist so I guess that’s why it stands out.

    1. Oh and that is great news about the hot water heater. Ours went before and you really do take hot water for granted until you are without. I guess that is why they break – to remind us how much we really appreciate them!

  2. Gorgeous song. Deep memories attached.

Yay to hot water again, l have an oven engineer here tomorrow sometime so hopefully l will have an oven again 🙂

      1. Well l think a new oven will have to be bought. The landlord can be an ass at times. I hope he doesn’t delay it for too long.

  3. That’s a neat story. Hard for me to fathom fourteen year olds starting a band. I was still pretending I was Evel Knievel zipping around the woods on my bicycle (oops, I still do that today). I’ve never heard of this band, but I’ve seen pictures of Amy Lee before. She’s very familiar to me. Not sure in what context I saw them. This prompt was a gimme. I would write about Imagine Dragon’s Believer with it’s chorus-starting scream PAIN! I love that song.

    1. You mean this one…

      It’s a good song 🎵

Interesting that you’ve seen pictures of her but never heard of the band 🤔 Maybe you know the songs and just never knew the band name?

Bring Me To Life was Huge and Going Under was pretty popular too.

  4. Love her voice. Not a song I’d heard before, so thanks for introducing me. Glad you have hot water now. We realise how much we take for granted when things like that go wrong! We often lose our water here in the Welsh countryside because the pipes are old and constantly burst.

    1. Oh, I hate when we lose water completely. I live very close to the downtown area of my city, it’s even a mixed use area with homes and businesses next to each other, so I expect things to work. If I lived in a more rural area I might expect occasional outages and be better prepared🤷🏼‍♀️
I’ve spent lots of time tent camping so I don’t have a problem with “roughing it”. I hate the unexpected inconvenience of when things you expect to work, don’t.

Any running water out of the tap is a blessing, and especially hot water for bathing and washing dishes.

Burst pipes must be a horrible headache. No water, then the digging to replace the pipes… noise and mess and those crews seem to always take their time about things… at least work crews here do🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

  5. A great track from the new millennium. I remember this album including My Immortal playing on the in dash cd player of my Mazda 3 Protégé extremely loud for the better part of an entire summer.

    1. Fancy with your dash CD player😂😂 I think I was driving my dodge grand caravan with only a radio. I’d gotten it used, from a lot of military fleet vehicles. High mileage but very well maintained. Definitely no frills😂😂😂

    1. I love how My Immortal is so soft and melodic, but their other songs are full metal!! Her voice is awesome and powefull. I wish I could sing like that without causing ear damage to anyone unfortunate enough to be in my vicinity ☹

  6. Sorry to hear life has stayed complicated for you.
I’ve ended my job because the kids started preschool. It seems weird to be carefree again.

I rejoined the gym which is where I always wrote my blog. I’m excited to get in better shape and be more comfortable writing again. My husband is still working from home and is almost always there, so I don’t have the privacy I like with a quiet house.

WordPress isn’t letting me comment on your posts without logging into my password, etc. A royal pain. So I have to reply when I’m on my computer, which is n’t very often.

Andrew is still loving his job. There is no word on a raise or benefits, but that’s okay. We were so happy to learn he is finally working again. He has been dating his girlfriend Shannon for 1.5 years. We like her, but I think she is high maintenance. It’s nice he has someone in his life.

Curtis doesn’t love his job, but is still employed. Thank God.
    Good to connect again Angie.
    Take care

    1. Sorry the job ended, but hooray for free time! You could volunteer to read to the little ones at a library or school if you just want to spend time with them🤷🏼‍♀️
Younger loves babies and children… was going to become a teacher, but got sidetracked🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve never really liked children😂😂 I loved my kids and Ben, but I have never been ga ga over little ones.🤷🏼‍♀️

Great news that Andrew is still working the job. I know you worry about him more. Too bad that Curtis is unhappy with his work, but at least the bills are getting paid. Isn’t it crazy how expensive everything has gotten?! Every trip to the grocery store is a new shock 😲 At least I’m still able to Find the things that Ben HAS to have. He’s so picky.

He’s fully into the realm of puberty now🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m actually thankful that I spent 6 months with my 12, 13 & 15 yr old nephews living with us, so I’m a little prepared for the testosterone boost. It’s not fun mixed with autism and ADHD, but I can’t imagine how much harder it would be with a girl. I know how difficult my girls were without autism & ADHD🙄🤦🏼‍♀️😂😂😂

Enjoy your free time and your gym time!

      1. This is a well thought out reply. Thanks for being a friend.
Yes. I’ve been around 13 yr olds w autism and ADHD. Curtis was much worse than Andrew. Andrew followed all the rules and never got into trouble until college. Even then, he was sweet. Just couldn’t stop lying. We didn’t understand him AT ALL. We didn’t understand that he just “ checks out” when overwhelmed, or just “shuts down.” He failed over and over again and didn’t care. Luckily, he had a passion which was singing. It really made his college experience. He had lots of friends and concerts that we always attended. He even performed in theater.
Curtis drank and smoked pot, did steroids, cut classes, failed tests, never studied, but amazingly graduated just barely. Had to hire tutors, put him in special school which he got kicked out of, then we got a counselor to get him back in a geometry class and a Algebra class ( i think). This was with 1 month of school left in his senior year. He passed. And surprisingly was accepted into Sonoma State. Again, had trouble w drinking, a dui, and 51/2 years later he graduated. It was a miracle.
Your Ben will surprise you. Keep watching.
Find his passion. What inspires him? What floats his boat? These kids are smart as Hell.
I will be rooting for him.
        Lovely to check in again.

        Hugs
        Teri
