Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday. For those interested in Casa Cuckoo news, I shall try to be brief. I’ve had swelling, then discoloration in my left foot and lower leg for 2-3 weeks. I hadn’t injured the foot or ankle so I had no idea what the cause was. I had been bitten, probably by a spider, possibly a Black Widow cuz we have them everywhere here, but that was weeks before, and had healed, though slowly. With the car accident drama, and Daughter and her Bronchitis, and Ben with his gut bug, my foot was low priority. It wasn’t really painful, mostly stiff and annoying. After it started turning bright red, then purple, I called my Primary Doctor who couldn’t see me til the following week. This was this past Tuesday. I tried calling Monday but the answering service kept taking the calls and they can’t make appointments. Anyway, another week didn’t seem like a good idea, so I showed up at Urgent Care when they opened at 8am on Wednesday. After waiting an hour, the doctor told me I might have an infection, or I might have a blood clot. I should go to Emergency at the hospital cuz Urgent Care can’t check for blood clot. So I stopped by the house, informed Daughter, made a “reservation” (what a joke!) at the Emergency Department and headed over. I was there for over 5 hours, spent most of that time sitting in the waiting room because they didn’t have any beds available, was examined by the doctor in the waiting room, and was occasionally transported by wheelchair for blood draws, x-rays, and some super fancy ultrasound of my leg to look for blood clots, then back to the waiting room in between each test. Two hours after the final test they checked my billing info and sent me to a cubicle in a corner for final vital signs and for the doctor to tell me what was up. Finally about 30 minutes later, the doctor told me it was Cellulitis, a skin infection and she called in, or sent in via interwebs, a prescription for clindamycin. I was so happy to finally leave! But I couldn’t find my stupid car in the structure. I nearly broke down and cried at that point. I was Soooo DONE and I just wanted to go home. Sitting upright is painful for me. I spend at least 75% of my time horizontal. So the long wait on top of the wait at Urgent Care earlier, had my pain flared immensely! And to top it off, the pharmacy had to order the med, so I picked it up Thursday afternoon. I also discovered my blinkers on my car aren’t working, and I’m kinda anal about using my blinkers. Plus, the duct tape holding the bumper on isn’t doing so well in the heat of the sun, so I had to call my insurance and file a claim after all. GRRRR! Sorry, that wasn’t very brief, was it?!π€¦πΌββοΈ
On with the prompt and the music!
The prompt words this week – Money, Gold, Silver, Rich
I seriously considered using Gold Dust Woman, but thought someone else (Paula) would grab that for sure, so I went with an old favorite. Lucky Man written by Greg Lake and performed by Emmerson, Lake and Palmer or ELP.
Lucky Man is from ELP’s self-titled debut album, released in 1970. The song only reached #48 on Billboard’s Hot 100 list in the US.
Songfacts tells us that Greg Lake wrote the song when he was 12 years old on a broken guitar with one string. He later got a guitar for Christmas and added a few chords to the song.
When ELP was recording their first album, they were short of the contractually required twenty-one minutes per side, so the guys stood around asking each if they had anything else. Lake told about the song he wrote when he was 12. Keith Emmerson told him to record it on his own, he was going to the pub, and left.
Carl Palmer stuck around and played drums and at first it wasn’t very good. Lake added bass and more guitar, then harmonies and it kept getting better. After the guitar solo was added, they were satisfied they’d created a good song.
The end of this song contains one of the most famous Moog synthesizer solos in rock history. Keith Emerson had just recently gotten the device, and only decided to play on this song after hearing the track Lake and Palmer recorded, when he got back from the pub, and realizing it was a legitimate song.
He had white horses
And ladies by the score
All dressed in satin
And waiting by the door
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
White lace and feathers
They made up his bed
A gold covered mattress
On which he was led
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
He went to fight wars
For his country and his king
Of his honor and his glory
The people would sing
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
A bullet had found him
His blood ran as he cried
No money could save him
So he laid down and he died
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooooh, what a lucky man he was
Are you a fan of ELP, or this song? What song would you choose for this prompt? Let me know in comments or create your own post. I always learn something new when I write about the song I’ve chosen, and I get to hear new, or new to me, music from other folks or get reminded of old favorites! That’s why I love this prompt and try to make it here every Sunday, even when the Cuckoo at the Casa seems to be on hyperdrive. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks Sadje!π₯° My warranty most definitely must be expired because the whole body seems to be falling apartπ€ͺ I haven’t been that hard on itπ€·πΌββοΈππ So far the antibiotics don’t seem to be doing anything, but it’s only been 3 days. Moving again? Did your daughter get a new position, or your husband?
Moving is yucky! I’ve only moved twice in the last 30 yearsππ

Song: Great story. How many of your songs were written when the artist was a kid? It seems like a recurring theme in your selections. I love the band dynamic that comes out… Pfft, I’m going to the pub. Life: Crap, You’re really being ganged up on. If you haven’t had it analyzed yet, I’d guess that the blinkers are a blown fuse (hopefully cheap to repair). These gang-up periods seem to happen now and again. All you can do is sit tight and hope the problems stop rolling in like waves on a windy day. Sending you positive, trouble free energy. My song choice: Pretty lame, but I think I’d pick Money for Nothing. As a music lover, it’s absurd how long it took me to get access to MTV. In fact, by the time I finally got a cable package, MTV was pretty much done with videos and focused on their reality shows. More recently, the song was a staple in my Black Friday Spin Class a tradition at the gym where I worked. After years of using the song, I realized it includes a common slur for a gay man. I can’t believe no one ever pointed that out to me. I banished the song and left a big hole in my song list that I filled with Neal Young’s version of “this land is your land.”

I actually thought about using the Dire Straits song. I’m surprised you didn’t banish it cuz of Stingπππ Yeah, the word still gets thrown out there. It’s even in “American Idiot” by Green Dayπ€·πΌββοΈ Maybe it’s for shock value. It doesn’t seem to carry as much actual venom as it used toπ€·πΌββοΈ Or maybe I live in SoCal which is WAY different from your areaπ
You really missed out on the MTV experience!! I was pretty lucky I guess cuz we had it in the early 80s. For sure by 83. We’d have the TV on all day instead of the radio. Everyone did.
Yeah, I DO seem to be on the receiving end of a bunch of crap! I spent all day today feeling like Oscar The Grouch, wanting to yell at myself to get off my lawnππ
I just keep on keepin onπ€·πΌββοΈ I have been thru SOOO much worse! It will cycle on to something else, hopefully betterπ€ Thanks for the good vibes! I’ll take any help I can get!π

Didnβt know about the Sting connection and I apparently never equated the song to donβt stand so close to me. The way dire straights uses the slur feels much meaner than Green Dayβs use. I did use American Idiot in my class despite that word and even the f-bomb. Sometimes ya gotta live on da edge.

Thanks Jim! It’s a great songππΌπΆ that video was kinda weird though, wasn’t it?!ππ They can’t reproduce all the production, so the live video was just Greg Lake and a guitar… nice, but I like the full studio version better.

Bad news, what are they doing regarding the underlying condition to the cellulitis? From my basic knowledge some of the reasons beghind it are circulation, weakened immunity system and inactiveness. Did they say they believed it to be the spider bite? Ultimately, you should be more aware and not leave things for too long gramma. Learn to start making yourself a priority in your own household.

They think it was the spider bite. They ruled out the blood clot with the fancy ultrasound. They took a bunch of blood for different tests, so I’m sure my Primary will go over all of it when I see him this coming Wednesday morning.
I’ve been seeing my doctor regularly. The only thing I haven’t done is boob squish. It’s been 5 years since my last oneπ€·πΌββοΈ It’s just a box to tick. There are no issues. I have regular blood tests. I’m actually really healthy in spite of all the odd illnesses, injuries and syndromes I seem to be collectingπ€·πΌββοΈ

Let’s hope that it was the bite that broke the skin and the infection started from that.
Years ago l experienced problems with gout and that began because of broken skin on my foot. A deep scratch by a rusted broken nail.
A few years after that, one Christmas my entire right leg began to swell up for no reason which they then said was either gout or cellulitis and that had me in hospital for 25 and 26 December 2008 – nasty business.

It might have a little to do with the Methotrexate I take for the plaque psoriasis too. It’s a drug used to treat skin cancer, and it suppresses the skin’s cell production. Plaque Psoriasis is overactive cell production so any skin healing takes forever now.
The bite was on my foot, and I scratched at it before I knew it was a bite. I did have a very small wound, which took a while to heal, like all the scratches I get from the dog or my clumsiness. But the wound had been closed for weeks before the swelling started. The whole thing is just weird.
I’m taking my big ol horsepill antibiotics 4x a day like I’m supposed to, and staying off my foot as much as possible. I’m VERY impatient, but I’m making myself behave. Mostly anywayπ

Sheesh! You told me about the ED visit (which sounded and still sounds completely awful) and I was hopeful that everything else with the car was okay. I’m sorry you are still dealing with that too! My goodness – you got a whole of crap handed to you in one week! I hope the medicine works and you are feeling better soon. Love the song choice! I think I may have chosen Gold on the Ceiling by The Black Keys. It was one of my favorites when I was running. Good beat! Anyway, I hope you have the best stress-free week ever this coming week! I am willing one towards you!

Thanks Robyn! Big ol’ horsepill antibiotics aren’t doing anything yet, but it’s only been 3 full days, so we’ll see. My Primary called ME on Friday to schedule a follow upπ² I love this “old fashioned” doctor, and especially the fact that he practices out of a house next door to meπ₯³ππΌ

Oh yeah, definitely gotta keep laughing! And honestly, I’ve been through way worse. Sheesh! The last time I was in that Emergency Department I was in withdrawal from Oxycontin and it messed my body up so bad my blood pressure was thru the roof. They actually admitted me to the cardiac floor for 2-3 days to run tests. Everything came back clear, but yeah… I told Daughter that I won’t go back to Emergency unless I’m unconscious and if she sends me, she better make sure they snow me under with the good drugsππ

Cellulitis? OMG! It’s a good thing you went in and had it checked. You need to put yourself first sometimes. Do you think it was the bug bite? Darn. Serious stuff. Especially if it was a blood clot.
Glad YOu are okay and the meds should help a lot.
I’ve been stressed and lost my car several times before. It’s scary, especially since you were tired and in pain.
I’m still having issues commenting from my phone, so I have to wait till I’m on my Ipad.
Hope you are getting better.
I’m hosting the garden club tomorrow night and having a friend over during the day for appetizers and wine. She and I spoil one another once a year with these little backyard get togethers. It’s going to be hot, so I need to maybe make it earlier.
All is well otherwise. We’ve had some nice family time lately. It sure is great to see everyone again.

I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself. A garden party sounds lovely! Too bad the weather couldn’t be nicer. I’m sure you will enjoy yourself anyway!
I saw my Primary this morning (Wednesday) and he wants me to take the full course of clindamycin and if it doesn’t improve (6 days in and no improvement yet) he gave me a prescription for doxycycline.
A blood clot was kind of a stretch TBH. I haven’t been on a plane or spent time bedridden, I don’t have the risk factors for a blood clot. It’s good that they ruled it out though cuz Daughter is a “worst case scenario worrier” she’s always sure it gotta be something horrible.
It’s nice to be loved, but don’t freak out on me, right?!π
I’m a very impatient patient. I want my body to work the way I’m used to. I’ve already accepted limitations from the chronic pain and various other syndromsπ€ͺ I’m being good though and taking it easier, and staying off my foot as much as I can… which honestly, it’s difficult with Daughter not driving, and Ben in his “terrible teens”π
I need a personal assistant π I can pay with hugsππ
