If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.
The evening routine went fine. Dinner was eaten, Daughter did Ben’s bath because kneeling wasn’t really possible for me and she even changed the dressing for me. She put “steri-strips” across the worst part to hold it together, smeared some goop on it, put a big pad over that and wrapped the whole she-bang in gauze. I put the abdominal brace over the gauze again to protect it from Zeus, Ben and Casa Cuckoo in general. Then we took her to work, came back home, tucked the boys in and I collapsed on my bed.
I skipped sunset last night. I wanted to stay off my leg. There were a few clouds but it didnt look like it was going to be dramatic. I thought resting would be better. See? I can be smart sometimes.
I texted with Younger. She’s feeling a little better. Dealing a little better. I ate the rest of my pasta, I did Night Things and chilled. I dozed, then woke at midnight, took my pill and more morphine and tried to sleep. I woke up a bunch of times. My leg hurt. I expected it, but I didn’t have to like it.
Ben Bounced me at 5:15ish. He got in bed with me for about forty-five seconds, then he was off to the bathroom. A few minutes later he Bounced me again, bent down and said “Gramma come living room.” right in my ear. Such a sweetheart, making sure I could hear him.
I hobbled to the Living Room, got coffee and texted Older that we were up. We did the regular morning things, Sven glared at me briefly when I uncovered him and turned on his lights, same as yesterday.
We went and got Daughter from work and came home to the whining, wiggle monster. This time he had a defluffed something in his mouth.
Daughter checked my dressing, nice and clean so we left it and I wrapped the abdominal brace back around it. She headed off to her room, Ben sat on the couch with his tablet and I resumed my Couch Sittin Duties.
I turned the AC on at 9am. The Weather Guessers’ dart landed on 75F (24C) for 9am. That’s not bad but between 9am and 10am their Magic Eight Ball readout was 83F (28C) then jumping to 91F (33C) by noon. I thought it might be better to get a jump on the heat. Same thing applies to pain meds. It’s better to take them before it gets so bad you can’t stand it. And take them on schedule for the first day or so for acute pain. Chronic pain is a whole different thing… and I’m babbling down a tangent.
Anyway, we got home, assumed our appointed positions, and did our regular things. For me, that was Writing The Words for HRH.
I Wrote The Words, fetched some snacks, filled up his water bottle… (still no “juice”, and of course we have over ten boxes) basic stuff. Mostly just chillin. He got up to set up the Jenga sized blocks, then came back to the couch. Dogzilla promptly knocked them over. (Zeus may have done it on purpose, Ben made him get off the couch)
We chilled on the couch together talking a little bit, him with his tablet and me with my phone. Around noon he grabbed his Bucket O’ Chalk and was going to dump them in front of the bathroom. I asked if he wanted me to move his “dominoes”. He replied, that with many thanks, that would be kind of me. Nah… he just said “Yes.” I picked up the blocks and moved the Bucket. He plopped down on a pillow and began doing his thang.
Zeus was happy to be back on the couch, snoring away
Daughter stumbled out of her room around 1:45pm. I gave my very brief report, and hobbled off to my room. Jiminey Cricket On A Moterscooter! You really dont realize how much your body parts work together for the simplest tasks until you injure a part and try not to use it. Why should sitting down or standing up hurt my shin?
I dozed a little, lazed a lot, veg’d on the bed. A relaxing afternoon… EXACTLY what was needed. Ben is in the dirt hole, Daughter is off work and I don’t have any errands to run. I could get used to this. Except the hurt leg part, of course.
Who remembers Blues Traveler? This wasn’t one of their big hits, but the video will make you smile and it’s a good song.
Thank you for hanging out with us today. We didn’t do very much, but we’ve had enough excitement lately, a day off is nice. Save our energies for the next big Adventure. Come by tomorrow, watch me hobble on my daily rounds… I might make up a new Hobble Dance. We’ll have some laughs…
