#SLS ~ A Punk Twist

Thanks to Jim Adams, for hosting Song Lyric Sunday.

In Casa Cuckoo News, the appointment I had with my Primary on 15th was rescheduled cuz the poor doc came back from his vacation and got sick. My new appointment is 22nd June. The healing continues on/in the troublesome foot that set this whole fiasco in motion. I’ve stepped down the amoxicillin from three pills per day, to two pills, and now I’m at one pill per day for two weeks. Even with taking a probiotic and eating yogurt, that antibiotic is making my gut very unhappy. So far dropping the Methotrexate hasn’t caused my Plaque Psoriasis to rebound and flare. I’m hoping it stays that way! I’d really, Really like to have a Treatment Plan in place before I Need it!

Daughter is still having issues with a cough, and generally not feeling great. She actually set a Telehealth appointment with her brand new assigned Primary for sometime in July. She’s a new patient, so they are lowest priority. Younger is doing good. Working, working, working and actually starting to get ahead on bills! They’re even giving me money to pay down the 6.3 million they owe me. It’s not Really that much, and neither of us know exactly how much it is, but there have been a few large-ish borrows, and a grip of smaller ones. Hey! I’m not gonna say no, right?! As long as they have all their stuff covered and some money for fun and living, I’ll take it. My credit cards need relief, and part of the high balance is from helping Younger… so all good.

Ben is Ben. His sleep, always an issue, has been complete crap this past week! He keeps waking up in the wee hours… 1am, 2am, 3am and Staying awake! Gramma is NOT pleased! I have no idea what’s going on with him. He hadn’t been sleeping at school according to his Communication Book and I actually believe it cuz they’ve had activities all week for the kids. Ah well… who needs sleep anyway, right?!

Sven is doing his oddball Summer Brumation Thang. He stays in his house, glares at us occasionally, but generally does his impression of a statue. I poke him every so often when it looks like he’s not breathing at all. Anyway, that’s the Casa update, let’s get on with the Music!

This week, the prompt words are – Amaze, Astonish, Curious, Shock, Surprise, Wonder

I had the perfect song, but a quick search showed me that I’d already used it last year for a different prompt. Then I thought of another fantastic song, and did a search… Yep! I used that one too. Well dang! I had a list of five or six songs and finally just chose the one by a band/performer I’ve seen in concert. I chose What A Wonderful World performed by Joey Ramone of the Ramones. The song was written by Bob Thiele and George Weiss and originally performed by Louis Armstrong. Satchmo released the song in 1967, though it has the feeling of a 40s standard.

Joey Ramone started adding this song to some Ramones concerts and it was released on his 2002 posthumous album Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me. It expressed his optimistic view of the world, even as he was faced with death.

In 1995, Joey Ramone was diagnosed with lymphoma. He kept his condition private until it was revealed on March 19, 2001, that he was battling the disease. He died of the illness at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on April 15, 2001, a month before he would have turned 50.

By 2014, all four of the band’s original members had died – lead singer Joey Ramone (1951–2001), bassist Dee Dee Ramone (1951–2002), guitarist Johnny Ramone (1948–2004) and drummer Tommy Ramone (1949–2014)

The Ramones never had the commercial success you’d expect, especially since they are cited as one of the major influences on American Punk Music. They toured a LOT! I was lucky enough to see them on April 23, 1983 with Bow Wow Wow, Modern English, Stray Cats, and Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers.

In 1996, after a tour with the Lollapalooza music festival, they played a farewell concert in Los Angeles and disbanded. The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2002.

I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, “How do you do?”
They’re really saying
“I love you”

I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more
Than I’ll never know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Oh yeah

Have you heard this version of the song before? Are you are Ramones fan? What song would you choose for these prompt words?? Thanks for stopping by! And Happy Father’s Day to those Dads of human, fur, scale or feather children!!

    1. I hope my doc is feeling well enough to see me on 22nd also! I’ve been having to tell myself to chill out about the Plaque Psoriasis. So far it hasn’t flared back up, and I definitely feel better without the Methotrexate. Almost a year on it, and I never did adjust🤷🏼‍♀️ It was worth it to have the Psoriasis under control though. I keep telling myself that it will NEVER get as bad as it was. My doctor and I won’t let it. But the little voice still likes to stir up trouble🤪😂😂😂

Are you all settled in your new place? Got everything put away where it belongs?? I hate, HATE moving. It’s why I’ve only moved 2 times in the last 30 years😂😂

      1. I am also taking a break from methotrexate after getting Covid despite the vaccinations and boosters. As yet no unwanted reaction are seen. Maybe we can get away with not taking it for a while.
The new place is up and running but I’m in Lahore because I will be getting surgery done on my left foot which has become very painful. It is a long process and I hope it makes the pain go away.
        Take care my friend

          1. Haha! Perhaps it is. Amen to your kind wishes. It’s going to be a long recovery, 3 months in plaster cast. I have to do this as I cannot even walk for 15 minutes without pain now.

      2. Great song choice. I’d never heard this version. Goes to show great song can cross genres without “missing a beat.” I feel your pain with the Psoriasis. I was diagnosed with a severe plaque Psoriasis 30 years ago. Done all the treatments incl. Methotrexate. Under control now using the biologic class of drugs.

        1. The Methotrexate had it completely under control, but it just kicked my butt for 24-36 hours after taking it. I felt winded, like I couldn’t catch my breath, and tired and like I was carrying an extra 50 pounds around. I don’t know what the doctor has planned going forward, but (knock on wood) so far it hasn’t come back.
I’ve heard good things about the biologics. I wonder if Medicare will cover them though.

Glad you liked the song too🎶🥳

    1. Thanks Paula! I got into a squat last night without thinking, and though I was happy I could do it at all, my knees were screaming at me☹️
My brain keeps thinking I’m 30 and recovery should be faster, but the body knows better. Meanwhile Angie hobbles around, frustrated but resigned 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

  1. Dang it. Why, when I was a teenager, couldn’t I find a cute girl who would jump around to the Ramones. I saw them countless times since they were always in DC playing bar venues. I absolutely love them. In fact my cat Tommy is named after Tommy R because we got him the day Tommy died. I’m happy to say the the Ramones feature prominently on all my family member playlists so I wind up hearing them all the time. I don’t recall hearing this song before but Joey’s voice is perfect for it.

    1. There were plenty of cute girls at the show where I saw them. You were just on the wrong coast😂😂😂 Joey did do a great job with this song, but it’s bittersweet to think he started incorporating it after his diagnosis.
Did you know Tommy started as the band’s manager and only took over drums when they couldn’t find a new drummer? I think Joey was drumming and Dee Dee was singing, but his vocal cords couldn’t take the strain of touring, so Tommy told Joey to sing.

I always learn new stuff with this prompt. It’s one of the reasons I love it.🥳🎶💃🏼

  2. This version of the song was completely new to me, very cool. 🎶 A Beardie in brumation would keep me on my toes and concerned. He’d probably bromate longer from me poking at him all time. 😂. So happy there’s no sign of the plaque psoriasis! Hugs! ⭐️🤗🦋🐶🐈‍⬛🐇🧝‍♀️🦎🐉

    1. Thanks Melanie! I was surprised to learn it was as new as 67😲 It really does seem to be one of those old standards.
I love Louis Armstrong’s version too, but I always try to find a song no one else will use🤷🏼‍♀️ I didn’t think many people would know of the Ramones, of all people, performing it.
I am healing far too slowly to suit me, but I’m cured of the hospital. I’d rather just die peacefully at home TYVM! I’m being “good” and not pushing myself.

      1. You know, I’m of the same opinion. IF they actually find there is cancer that they can see, they’ll be pushing for me to have surgery. I would love an answer to “Why?” I don’t have close family, Ziggy is my only consideration, and I have a good home if I do pass away already. I’m getting all my affairs in order so there should be very little to do, and what’s wrong with wanting to die at home, relatively debt free (from all the wildly expensive costs and that). My sympathies for your having to stay in there, but once you’re unconscious or unable to speak for yourself, the medical directive is “Keep the patient alive by whatever means necessary.” Which is b.s. in this day and time IMO. The government doesn’t want to keep a decent lid on costs for anything, and they aren’t giving those in poorer income brackets any free money that I’ve heard of. It’s insane. I’m am glad about you being on the mend and loved reading about Sven, the Dragon Statue…🤣

  3. What a cool song! I haven’t heard it before either. Glad you are doing generally better and the psoriasis hasn’t flared being off the bad pill. I hope your visit went well today! No sleep Ben – UGH! Hopefully that has changed for the better as well!

    1. The appointment today was kind of a waste🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ The doctor was running late, like 45 minutes late, which is unusual. He had no idea why I was there until I told him, so he was unprepared.
He wants to review all the tests from the hospital, and order new blood tests to see where I’m at now. I’m waiting to hear from the office to pick up the lab request… thank goodness they’re next door😂😂
I see him again next Friday to review the new labs. Everyone is just confused about why my hemoglobin tanked so hard in the 3 weeks between the first ER Visit and when I was admitted. We need Dr House😂😂😂

I love Louis Armstrong but I love Joey Ramone too! 🥳🎶
